According to one aspect, there is provided a refrigerator including a refrigerating chamber formed at a relatively upper portion of a refrigerator body and a freezing chamber formed at a relatively lower portion of the refrigerator body, which comprises an ice-making chamber which is partitioned in the refrigerating chamber by insulating walls and includes an icemaker for making ice and an ice storage for storing the ice made in the icemaker. The temperature in the refrigerating chamber can be accurately controlled, the loss of cold air can be minimized and the structures for supplying water into the icemaker and the dispenser can be simplified.

The invention claimed is: 1. A refrigerator comprising: a refrigerator body; a refrigerating compartment and a freezing compartment being configured to maintain operating temperatures that differ, with the freezing compartment having an operating temperature that is lower than an operating temperature of the refrigerating compartment; a refrigerator door configured to open and close at least a portion of the refrigerating compartment; an ice compartment defined, by one or more insulating walls, as an independent structure within the refrigerating compartment such that, when the refrigerator door is oriented in an open position, the ice compartment remains in the refrigerating compartment and is closed by the one or more insulating walls; an ice storage bin located within the ice compartment; and an ice discharge duct configured to define a passage though at least one of the one or more insulating walls, wherein the ice discharge duct is configured to define the passage though a front surface of the insulating walls, which is configured to cover a surface of the ice compartment that is otherwise exposed as a consequence of the refrigerator door being oriented in the open position. 2. The refrigerator of claim 1 wherein the one or more insulating walls surround the ice compartment. 3. The refrigerator of claim 1 wherein the one or more insulating walls wrap around the ice compartment. 4. The refrigerator of claim 1 wherein the one or more insulating walls define the ice compartment as an individual space in the refrigerating compartment. 5. The refrigerator of claim 1 wherein the ice compartment being defined as an independent structure within the refrigerating compartment by one or more insulating walls includes the ice compartment being defined as an independent structure within the refrigerating compartment by one or more shared insulating walls, the one or more shared insulating walls being configured to define a portion of the ice compartment and a portion of the refrigerating compartment. 6. The refrigerator of claim 5, further comprising a support structure configured to interface with a floor surface and to support a majority of the refrigerator's weight during operation, wherein the one or more shared insulating walls include a shared insulating wall defining a portion of the ice compartment that is nearest a top portion of the refrigerator when the refrigerator is positioned with the support structure bearing a majority of the refrigerator's weight. 7. The refrigerator of claim 5 wherein the one or more shared insulating walls include a shared insulating wall defining a rear portion of the ice compartment, the rear portion of the ice compartment being a portion of the ice compartment that is furthest from the refrigerator door when the refrigerator door is oriented in a closed position. 8. The refrigerator of claim 5 wherein the one or more shared insulating walls include a shared insulating wall having a surface with a first linear section dedicated to insulating the ice compartment and a second linear section dedicated to insulating the refrigerating compartment. 9. The refrigerator of claim 1 further comprising an ice maker located within the ice compartment. 10. The refrigerator of claim 1 further comprising: a dispenser positioned on the refrigerator door; and an ice transporting mechanism configured to promote movement of ice from the ice storage bin to the dispenser through the passage defined by the ice discharge duct. 11. The refrigerator of claim 1 wherein the ice discharge duct is also configured to define the passage through a bottom of the insulating walls, which is configured to intersect the front of the insulating walls and that is configured to cover a surface of the ice compartment that is positioned closest to the freezing compartment, wherein the ice discharge duct is configured to penetrate the front and the bottom of the insulating walls at a point of intersection between the front and the bottom of the insulating walls. 12. The refrigerator of claim 1 wherein the ice discharge duct is configured to define the passage through a bottom of the insulating walls, which is configured to cover a surface of the ice compartment that is positioned closest to the freezing compartment. 13. The refrigerator of claim 1 wherein the one or more insulating walls include an insulating material. 14. The refrigerator of claim 13 wherein the insulating material includes at least one of polyurethane and Styrofoam. 15. The refrigerator of claim 1 wherein the refrigerator door is configured to open and close the refrigerating compartment. 16. The refrigerator of claim 1 wherein the refrigerator door is a first refrigerator door configured to open and close a first portion of the refrigerating compartment, further comprising a second refrigerator door configured to open and close a second portion of the refrigerating compartment, the second refrigerator door being different than the first refrigerator door and the second portion of the refrigerating compartment being different than the first portion of the refrigerating compartment. 17. A refrigerator comprising: a refrigerator body; a refrigerating compartment and a freezing compartment being configured to maintain operating temperatures that differ, with the freezing compartment having an operating temperature that is lower than an operating temperature of the refrigerating compartment; a refrigerator door configured to open and close at least a portion of the refrigerating compartment; an ice compartment defined, by one or more insulating walls, as an independent structure within the refrigerating compartment such that, when the refrigerator door is oriented in an open position, the ice compartment remains in the refrigerating compartment and is closed by the one or more insulating walls; an ice maker located within the ice compartment; an ice storage bin located within the ice compartment; and an ice discharge duct configured to define a passage through a front surface of the ice compartment, wherein a front insulating wall covers a front surface of the ice compartment, and the refrigerator door covers the front insulating wall when the refrigerator door is oriented in a closed position. 18. The refrigerator of claim 17 wherein the one or more insulating walls surround the ice compartment. 19. The refrigerator of claim 17 wherein the ice compartment being defined as an independent structure within the refrigerating compartment by one or more insulating walls includes the ice compartment being defined as an independent structure within the refrigerating compartment by one or more shared insulating walls, the one or more shared insulating walls being configured to define a portion of the ice compartment and a portion of the refrigerating compartment. 20. The refrigerator of claim 19, further comprising a support structure configured to interface with a floor surface and to support a majority of the refrigerator's weight during operation, wherein the one or more shared insulating walls include a shared insulating wall defining a portion of the ice compartment that is nearest a top portion of the refrigerator when the refrigerator is positioned with the support structure bearing a majority of the refrigerator's weight. 21. The refrigerator of claim 19 wherein the one or more shared insulating walls include a shared insulating wall defining a rear portion of the ice compartment, the rear portion of the ice compartment being a portion of the ice compartment that is furthest from the refrigerator door when the refrigerator door is oriented in a closed position. 22. The refrigerator of claim 19 wherein the one or more shared insulating walls include a shared insulating wall having a surface with a first linear section dedicated to insulating the ice compartment and a second linear section dedicated to insulating the refrigerating compartment. 23. The refrigerator of claim 17 further comprising: a dispenser positioned on the refrigerator door; and an ice transporting mechanism configured to promote movement of ice from the ice storage bin to the dispenser through the passage defined by the ice discharge duct. 24. The refrigerator of claim 17 wherein the ice discharge duct is also configured to define the passage through a bottom insulating wall, which is configured to intersect the front insulating wall and that is configured to cover a surface of the ice compartment that is positioned closest to the freezing compartment, wherein the ice discharge duct is configured to penetrate the front and the bottom insulating walls at a point of intersection between the front and the bottom insulating walls. 25. The refrigerator of claim 17 wherein the ice discharge duct is configured to define the passage through a bottom insulating wall, which is configured to cover a surface of the ice compartment that is positioned closest to the freezing compartment. 26. The refrigerator of claim 17 wherein the refrigerator door is a first refrigerator door configured to open and close a first portion of the refrigerating compartment, further comprising a second refrigerator door configured to open and close a second portion of the refrigerating compartment, the width of the second refrigerator door being different from that of the first refrigerator door.
