In accordance with the invention, a Logging Administration Maintenance and Billing Entity (LAMB) is interfaced to a network transport bus for logging network traffic, for error tracking, error replay, and billing functions. In the exemplary embodiment, the LAMB records transactions from a subscriber configuration interface (SCI). Information about SCI transactions may include, for example, time, date, originator information, transaction ID, destination information, message information, SCI functions accessed by the originator, errors, and any other function or process performed by the SCI.

What is claimed is: 1. A method for administering an error condition in a communications network having a messaging infrastructure, the communications network including a data storage module connected to a network transport bus, the method comprising: receiving via the network transport bus a message, wherein the network transport bus communicatively connects a plurality of network elements and utilizes a common messaging format for communication among and between the network elements, wherein the network elements comprise a plurality of adaptive routing concentrators, a plurality of routing and validation entities, and a data storage module all communicatively connected to the network transport bus and wherein the plurality of network elements operate under a plurality of different message protocols; monitoring the received message that is moving through the communications network and determining if an error condition associated with the message was created when the message moved through the communications network; recording basic information relating to the message in the data storage module, the basic information including at least one of a message identifier, a message origin, a message destination, and a message path if the error condition was not created, wherein the information recording step comprises recording detailed data related to the message if the error condition was created, and wherein detailed data comprises basic data plus additional data; flagging a portion of the message to indicate that the portion is for troubleshooting and not for actual execution if the error condition was created; replaying the message through the communications network, wherein the replaying step includes transmitting the message through the communications network based on the recorded information and includes at least one of transmitting the message while the communications network is in a safe mode and transmitting the message on a step-by-step basis. 2. The method of claim 1, wherein transmitting the message further comprises: receiving instructions from a user console; and stepping through the transmission of the message based on the received instructions. 3. The method of claim 2, further comprising: transmitting response information to the user console according to the received instructions, the response information relating to the response of a particular element of the communications network to the replayed message. 4. The method of claim 3, further comprising: recording response information according to the received instructions, the response information relating to the response of a particular element of the communications network to the replayed message. 5. The method of claim 1, wherein replaying the message further comprises: flagging a portion of the transmitted message so as to disable a portion of the communications network in response to the message. 6. The method of claim 1, further comprising: determining the source of the error condition. 7. The method of claim 1, wherein recording information further comprises: receiving instructions from a user console regarding the granularity of data to be recorded; and recording the information relating to the message commensurate with the received instructions. 8. The method of claim 1, wherein the information recorded in the storage device is purged periodically. 9. A system for administering an error condition in a communications network having a messaging infrastructure including a network transport bus, comprising: a logging administration maintenance and billing (LAMB) module operatively connected to the communications network via the network transport bus, wherein the network transport bus communicatively connects a plurality of network elements and utilizes a common messaging format for communication among and between the network elements, wherein the network elements comprise a plurality of adaptive routing concentrators, a plurality of routing and validation entities, and a data storage module all communicatively connected to the network transport bus and wherein the plurality of network elements operate under a plurality of different message protocols, the LAMB module including a processor for monitoring the transmission of a message moving through the communications network and for replaying the message through the communication network, wherein a first interface is coupled to the processor for coupling the LAMB module to the network transport bus, wherein the network transport bus receives messages wirelessly from a plurality of network elements operating under a plurality of different message protocols, wherein the processor farther flags a portion of the message to indicate that the portion is for troubleshooting purposes and not for actual execution; and a data storage module operatively connected to the processor for storing information relating to the transmission of a message moving through the communications network, wherein the LAMB module: determines if an error condition associated with the message was created when the message moved through the communications network, and records in the data storage module the information relating to the transmission of the message moving through the communications network, wherein the recorded information is detailed data related to the message if the error condition was created and basic data related to the message if the error condition was not created, wherein detailed data comprises basic data plus additional data, and wherein the processor replays the message through the communications network based on the recorded information and includes at least one of replaying the message while the communications network is in a safe mode and replaying the message on a step-by-step basis. 10. The system of claim 9, wherein the LAMB module can monitor the movement of the message moving through the communications network without disrupting the message. 11. The system of claim 9, wherein the LAMB module can monitor the movement of the message moving through the communications network without slowing the message.
