The invention claimed is: 1. A removable gas separation cartridge for use in an oxygen concentrator which separates oxygen from ambient air by using a vacuum swing absorption process, the gas separation cartridge comprising: a first adsorbent column having an inlet, an outlet and a first bed of adsorbent material; a second adsorbent column having an inlet, an outlet and a second bed of adsorbent material; a third adsorbent column having an inlet, an outlet and a third bed of adsorbent material; a housing for containing the first, second, and third adsorbent columns; first, second, and third inlet ports in the housing connected to the respective first, second, and third column inlets; first, second, and third outlet ports in the housing connected to the respective first, second, and third column outlets. 2. The gas separation cartridge of claim 1 further comprising: an inlet air filter; means for connecting the air filter to the oxygen concentrator; a product gas filter; and means for connecting the product gas filter to the oxygen concentrator; wherein the inlet air filter and product gas filter are contained within the housing. 3. The gas separation cartridge of claim 2 further comprising: an outlet port connected to the product gas filter. 4. The gas separation cartridge of claim 1 wherein the adsorbent columns each further comprise a spring for retaining the adsorbent column in the housing. 5. The gas separation cartridge of claim 1 wherein the adsorbent columns further comprise spin inducers adjacent the inlet and outlet of the adsorption columns. 6. The gas separation cartridge of claim 5 wherein the adsorbent columns further comprise porous filters between the spin inducers and beds of adsorbent material. 7. The gas separation cartridge of claim 1 wherein the beds of adsorbent material comprise beds of zeolite which provide preferential adsorption of nitrogen. 8. The gas separation cartridge of claim 7 wherein the zeolite is an LiLSX adsorbent. 9. The gas separation cartridge of claim 1 wherein the first, second, and third inlet ports and first, second, and third outlet ports comprise quick connect couplings. 10. A removable cartridge for a portable oxygen concentrator, the cartridge comprising: an outer casing; a plurality of gas separation columns within the outer casing, each gas separation column containing an adsorbent material that preferentially adsorbs nitrogen, a first end, and a second end; a plurality of inlet ports in the outer casing, each inlet port connect to the first end of one of the columns; and a plurality of outlet ports in the outer casing, each outlet port connected to the second end of one of the columns. 11. The gas separation cartridge of claim 10 further comprising: an inlet air filter within the outer casing; a port for connecting the air filter to the oxygen concentrator; a product gas filter within the outer casing; and a port for connecting the product gas filter to the oxygen concentrator. 12. The gas separation cartridge of claim 10 wherein the adsorbent columns each further comprise a spring for retaining the adsorbent column in the housing. 13. The gas separation cartridge of claim 10 wherein the adsorbent columns further comprise spin inducers adjacent to the inlets of the adsorption columns. 14. The gas separation cartridge of claim 13 wherein the adsorbent columns further comprise porous filters between the spin inducers and beds of adsorbent material. 15. The gas separation cartridge of claim 10 wherein the beds of adsorbent material comprise beds of zeolite which provide preferential adsorption of nitrogen. 16. The gas separation cartridge of claim 14 wherein the zeolite is an LiLSX adsorbent. 17. A removeable gas separation cartridge for use in an oxygen concentrator which separates oxygen from ambient air by using a vacuum swing absorption process, the gas separation cartridge comprising: a first adsorbent column having an inlet, and outlet and a first bed of adsorbent material; a second adsorbent column having an inlet, an outlet and a second bed of adsorbent material; a third adsorbent column having an inlet, and outlet and a third bed of adsorbent material; wherein each adsorbent column further comprise spin adjacent the inlet and outlet of the adsorption columns; a housing for containing the first, second, and third adsorbent columns; an inlet port in the housing connected to each of the respective first, second, and third column inlets; and an outlet port in the housing connected to each of the respective first, second, and third column outlets. 18. The gas separation cartridge of claim 17 wherein each adsorbent columns further comprise porous filters between the spin inducers and beds of adsorbent material. 19. A removeable gas separation cartridge for use in an oxygen concentrator which separates oxygen from ambient air by using a vacuum swing absorption process, the gas separation cartridge comprising: a first adsorbent column having an inlet, and outlet and a first bed of adsorbent material; a second adsorbent column having an inlet, an outlet and a second bed of adsorbent material; a third adsorbent column having an inlet, and outlet and a third bed of adsorbent material; an inlet air filter; means for connecting the inlet air filter to the oxygen concentrator; a product gas filter; means for connecting the product gas filter to the oxygen concentrator; a housing for containing the first, second, and third adsorbent columns, the inlet filter, and the product gas filter; an inlet port in the housing connected to each of the respective first, second, and third column inlets; and an outlet port in the housing connected to each of the respective first, second, and third column outlets. 20. The gas separation cartridge of claim 19 further comprising: an outlet port connected to the product gas filter.
