What is claimed is: 1. A keypad assembly for a mobile computing device, the keypad assembly comprising: a plurality of key structures, wherein the plurality of key structures are structured to extend from a surface of the mobile computing device; a substrate that includes a plurality of contact elements, wherein each contact element corresponds to one of the key structures; a plurality of conductive structures provided on the substrate, wherein each of the plurality of conductive structures is positioned over an aligned contact element, and wherein each of the plurality of conductive structures is deflectable to cause contact with the corresponding contact element; a plurality of actuation members provided on a carrier, wherein each of the plurality of actuation member is positioned between a corresponding one of the key structures and a corresponding one of the conductive structures, and wherein the carrier is formed to be flexible, and each of the plurality of actuation members is formed to be more rigid than the carrier; and wherein each of the plurality of actuation members is moveable by insertion of the corresponding key structure to cause the corresponding conductive structure to deflect and cause contact with the aligned contact element for that conductive structure. 2. The keypad assembly of claim 1, wherein the plurality of actuation members are formed on the carrier to have a unitary construction. 3. The keypad assembly of claim 2, wherein each of the plurality of actuation members extend between the corresponding key structure and the carrier. 4. The keypad assembly of claim 2, wherein each of the plurality of actuation members extend between the carrier and the corresponding conductive structure, so that insertion of the corresponding key structure directs the actuation member through the carrier. 5. The keypad assembly of claim 2, wherein each of the plurality of actuation members extend through the carrier and partially between the corresponding key structure and the corresponding conductive structure. 6. The keypad assembly of claim 1, wherein each of the plurality of actuation members is in contact with the corresponding conductive structure prior to insertion of the corresponding key structure. 7. The keypad assembly of claim 6, wherein each of the plurality of actuation members is fixed to the corresponding conductive structure. 8. The keypad assembly of claim 1, wherein the carrier includes at least a first set of alignment features for aligning each of the plurality of actuation members with the corresponding one of the conductive structures. 9. The keypad assembly of claim 8, wherein the carrier includes at least a second set of alignment features for aligning each of the plurality of actuation members with the corresponding one of the plurality of key structures. 10. The keypad assembly of claim 1, wherein the plurality of actuation members are each substantially elongated and cylindrical. 11. The keypad assembly of claim 1, wherein a cross-sectional dimension of each of the plurality of actuation members is less than one half of a cross-sectional dimension of the corresponding conductive structure. 12. The keypad assembly of claim 1, wherein a cross-sectional dimension of each of the plurality of actuation members is less than one third of a cross-sectional dimension of the corresponding conductive structure. 13. The keypad assembly of claim 1, further comprising an illumination layer disposed underneath at least some of the key structures to illuminate at least some of the plurality of key structures. 14. The keypad assembly of claim 13, wherein the illumination layer substantially uniformly illuminates the plurality of key structures. 15. The keypad assembly of claim 13, wherein the illumination layer is comprised of an electroluminescent carrier. 16. The keypad assembly of claim 15, wherein the electroluminescent carrier is disposed between the plurality of key structures and a carrier on which the plurality of actuation member are provided. 17. An actuation component of a keypad assembly, the component comprising: a carrier; a plurality of actuation members that extend from at least one side of the carrier; wherein the carrier is dimensioned to fit between a plurality of key structures and a substrate having a plurality of deflectable and conductive structures that overlay corresponding contact points on the substrate; wherein the carrier is positionable so that that each of the plurality of actuation members is individually moveable inwards by insertion of a corresponding one of the plurality of key structures in order to cause deflection of a corresponding one of the plurality of conductive structures, wherein deflection of that conductive structure causes electrical contact with the overlayed and corresponding contact point; and wherein the carrier is formed to be flexible, and each of the plurality of actuation members is formed to be more rigid than the carrier. 18. The actuation component of claim 17, wherein the carrier and the plurality of actuation members are formed from one or more common manufacturing processes. 19. The actuation component of claim 17, wherein the carrier is formed from a flexible matrix, and wherein the plurality of actuation members are molded onto the carrier to be more rigid than the matrix. 20. The actuation component of claim 19, further comprising at least a set of alignment features for aligning the carrier with at least one of the substrate and the plurality of key structures. 21. The actuation component of claim 19, wherein the plurality of actuation members are each substantially elongated and cylindrical. 22. The actuation component of claim 21, wherein a cross-sectional dimension of each of the plurality of actuation members is less than one half of a cross-sectional dimension of the corresponding conductive structure. 23. The actuation component of claim 21, wherein a cross-sectional dimension of each of the plurality of actuation members is less than one third of a cross-sectional dimension of the corresponding conductive structure.
