A method and apparatus for a connection interface between a reservoir or syringe, infusion set tubing, and an infusion pump is provided. A base is provided which is adapted to receive a reservoir. The base has a base engagement member, such as a detent, projecting therefrom. A cap is provided which is adapted to receive the base. The cap includes a first cap engagement member, such as a detent opening, which is adapted to removably engage the base detent. The cap further includes a second cap detent opening which is adapted to removably engage the base detent. A piercing member, such as a needle, is disposed in the interior of the cap in such a manner that the needle is separated from the reservoir septum when the base detent is in the first cap detent opening, and the needle pierces the reservoir septum when the base detent is in the second cap detent opening. When the reservoir, the base and the cap are connected to form an integrated unit, this unit is then capable of being inserted and secured in the infusion pump housing.

What is claimed is: 1. An apparatus for connecting a fluid medication reservoir to a fluid conduit; the apparatus comprising: a cap for coupling a fluid medication reservoir to a fluid conduit, the cap having a circumference; a conduit cavity disposed in the cap and adapted to secure the fluid conduit to the cap, wherein the conduit cavity is adapted to connect to infusion set tubing and is formed about an axis around which the cap rotates, the axis being perpendicular to a plane defined by the circumference of the cap; infusion set tubing adapted to connect to the conduit cavity disposed in the cap; a first housing engagement member disposed on the cap adapted to engage a housing of a medication infusion pump; and a second housing engagement member disposed on the cap adapted to engage the housing of the medication infusion pump; wherein: at least one housing engagement member disposed on the cap comprises a retractable detent arm formed within and defining a portion of the circumference of the cap and the cap is adapted to be releasably secured within a recess of the housing of the medication infusion pump upon rotation of the cap around the axis; the first and second housing engagement members are disposed on the cap so that the fluid medication reservoir is disposed within the recess of the housing of the medication infusion pump when the cap is operatively coupled to the housing of the medication infusion pump; and the cap having the conduit cavity adapted to connect to infusion set tubing and the first and second housing engagement members are formed as a homogenous one piece unit. 2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the first or the second housing engagement member comprises a tab or a thread. 3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the first or the second housing engagement member comprises a shoulder that forms a seal with the housing when the cap is operatively engaged with the housing. 4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the first or the second housing engagement member comprises a tab. 5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the first or the second housing engagement member comprises a thread. 6. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the cap further comprises means for securing the cap to the housing such that water is prevented from entering the housing. 7. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the cap comprises a fluid medication reservoir engagement member adapted to engage the fluid medication reservoir. 8. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the conduit cavity is an open-ended cylindrical cavity. 9. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the fluid conduit comprises a piercing member which pierces a septum in the fluid medication reservoir when the fluid conduit is connected with the apparatus and the apparatus is coupled and operatively engaged with the fluid medication reservoir. 10. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the cap includes a detent opening formed along the circumference of the cap. 11. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the cap comprises a locking member that prevents movement of the cap when the cap is operatively engaged with the housing of the medical device. 12. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein engaging the reservoir results in tactile or visual feedback to a user when the apparatus is engaged with the reservoir. 13. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the first and second housing engagement members are disposed on the cap so that all of the fluid medication reservoir is disposed within the housing of the medication infusion pump when the first and second housing engagement members are operatively engaged with the housing of the medication infusion pump. 14. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the first or second housing engagement member is positioned on the apparatus so that the apparatus and the reservoir are disposed within the housing of the medication infusion pump when the apparatus is secured within the housing. 15. An apparatus for connecting a fluid medication reservoir to a fluid conduit; the apparatus comprising: a cap for coupling a fluid medication reservoir to a fluid conduit, the cap having a circumference; a conduit cavity disposed in the cap and adapted to secure the fluid conduit to the cap, wherein the conduit cavity is adapted to connect to infusion set tubing and is formed about an axis around which the cap rotates, the axis being perpendicular to a plane defined by the circumference of the cap; a first housing engagement member disposed on the cap adapted to engage a housing of a medication infusion pump, wherein the first housing engagement member comprises a retractable detent arm formed within and defining a portion of the circumference of the cap; and a second housing engagement member disposed on the cap adapted to engage the housing of the medication infusion pump upon rotation of the cap around the axis; wherein the first and second housing engagement members are disposed on the cap so that all of the fluid medication reservoir is disposed within a recess of the housing of the medication infusion pump when the first and second housing engagement members are operatively engaged with the housing of the medication infusion pump; and the cap having the conduit cavity adapted to connect to infusion set tubing and the first and second housing engagement members are formed as a homogenous one piece unit. 16. The apparatus of claim 15, further comprising infusion set tubing adapted to connect to the conduit cavity disposed in the cap. 17. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein the first or second housing engagement member is positioned on the apparatus so that the apparatus and the reservoir are disposed within the housing of the medication infusion pump when the apparatus is secured within the housing. 18. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein the cap includes a detent opening formed along the circumference of the cap. 19. An apparatus for connecting a fluid medication reservoir to a fluid conduit; the apparatus comprising: a cap for coupling a fluid medication reservoir to a fluid conduit, the cap having a circumference; a conduit cavity disposed in the cap and adapted to secure the fluid conduit to the cap, wherein the conduit cavity is adapted to connect to infusion set tubing and is formed about an axis around which the cap rotates, the axis being perpendicular to a plane defined by the circumference of the cap; infusion set tubing adapted to connect to the conduit cavity disposed in the cap; and a retractable detent arm formed within and defining a portion of the circumference of the cap and adapted to engage a housing of a medication infusion pump; wherein: the cap is adapted to be releasably secured within a recess of the housing of the medication infusion pump upon rotation of the cap around the axis; the retractable detent arm is disposed on the cap so that the fluid medication reservoir is disposed within the recess of the medication pump housing when the cap is operatively coupled to the medication pump housing; and the cap having the conduit cavity adapted to connect to infusion set tubing and the detent arm are formed as a homogenous one piece unit. 20.
