The first and the second attachment structures each include a first wall having a first fastener aperture and a second wall having a second fastener aperture, the first and second fastener apertures being formed about a common central longitudinal axis.

What is claimed is: 1. A hangar bar assembly for a recessed luminaire comprising: a first hangar bar member including a first attachment structure disposed on an end thereof; a second hangar bar member including a second attachment structure disposed on an end thereof, the second hangar bar member being adjacent to the first hangar bar member; wherein the first and the second attachment structures each include a first wall having a first fastener aperture and a second wall having a second fastener aperture, the first and second fastener apertures being formed about a common central axis; wherein each of the first fastener apertures is sized to hold a fastener in a plane relative to the central axis; and wherein each of the second fastener apertures is configured to guide the respective fastener, when driven through the first and second fastener apertures, such that the fastener remains in said plane. 2. The hangar bar assembly of claim 1, wherein the first hangar bar member slidably engages the second hangar bar member. 3. The hangar bar assembly of claim 2, wherein the first wall and the second wall of both the first and the second attachment structures are parallel. 4. The hangar bar assembly of claim 3, wherein each of the first fastener apertures holds the respective fastener by a friction fit. 5. The hangar bar assembly of claim 4, wherein each of the first and the second fasteners is a nail. 6. The hangar bar assembly of claim 4, wherein the second fastener apertures are configured to allow the first and the second fasteners to be driven therethrough in an unimpeded fashion. 7. The hangar bar assembly of claim 4, wherein the first and second fastener apertures are substantially circular. 8. The hangar bar assembly of claim 7, wherein the diameter of each second fastener aperture is slightly larger than the diameter of each first fastener aperture. 9. The hangar bar assembly of claim 7, wherein each second fastener aperture defines a lip disposed toward the first wall. 10. The hangar bar assembly of claim 9, wherein each lip is configured to guide the tip of each fastener through each second wall. 11. The hangar bar assembly of claim 3, wherein the first hangar bar member includes an elongated slot, and the second hangar bar member includes at least two retaining projections extending into the elongated slot. 12. The hangar bar assembly of claim 11, wherein the at least two retaining projections further comprises three retaining projections. 13. The hangar bar assembly of claim 12, further comprising at least one bridge spanning the elongated slot to form a first slot portion and a second slot portion, wherein adjacent retaining projections are separated by a distance that is greater than a width of the bridge. 14. The hangar bar assembly of claim 13, further comprising a second bridge disposed on a proximal end of the first hangar bar and spanning an end of the elongated slot, wherein the retaining projections slide beneath the second bridge and out of the elongated slot. 15. The hangar bar assembly of claim 14, wherein the first and second attachment structures are configured to allow the first and second hangar bar members to slidably extend therebeyond, respectively. 16. The hangar bar assembly of claim 3, further comprising at least a first stub extending between the first wall and the second wall of the first attachment structure, and a second stub extending between the first wall and the second wall of the second attachment structure, wherein the first and second stubs are configured to maintain separation between their respective first and second walls. 17. The hangar bar assembly of claim 16, wherein the first and the second stubs each extends from the respective first wall and toward the respective second wall. 18. The hangar bar assembly of claim 16, wherein the first stub and the second stub are substantially perpendicular to the first wall and the second wall. 19. The hangar bar assembly of claim 16, wherein the first stub is substantially perpendicular to the first wall and the second wall of the first attachment structure; and the second stub is substantially perpendicular to the first wall and the second wall of the second attachment structure. 20. The hangar bar assembly of claim 1, further comprising a first mounting flange and a second mounting flange, each extending from a bottom edge of the second wall of one of the first attachment structure and the second attachment structure, the first and the second mounting flanges being perpendicular to the respective second wall and operative to engage a joist. 21. The hangar bar assembly of claim 20, wherein the joist comprises a first side and a second side, and each second wall is configured to engage the joist on the first side, and each mounting flange is configured to engage the joist on the second side. 22. The hangar bar assembly of claim 21, wherein each mounting flange defines a mounting slot. 23. The hangar bar assembly of claim 22, wherein each mounting slot is configured to receive a fastener driven into the joist. 24. The hangar bar assembly of claim 1, further comprising a pair of mounting tabs, each mounting tab extending downwardly from a bottom edge of a respective first wall such that a gap is formed by the mounting tab and a portion of the respective first wall, each gap being configured for slidably receiving a portion of a support structure. 25. The hangar bar assembly of claim 24, wherein the support structure further comprises a T-grid support for use with a suspended ceiling. 26. The hangar bar assembly of claim 25, further comprising a mounting aperture formed in each of the mounting tabs. 27. A hangar bar assembly for a recessed luminaire, the assembly comprising: a first hangar bar member comprising a first attachment structure disposed on an end thereof; and a second hangar bar member comprising a second attachment structure disposed on an end thereof, the second hangar bar member being adjacent to the first hangar bar member; wherein the first and the second attachment structures each comprise a first wall comprising a first fastener aperture and a second wall comprising a second fastener aperture, the first and second fastener apertures being substantially circular and formed about a common central axis; wherein the second fastener aperture is slightly larger than the first fastener aperture and is configured to guide a fastener, when driven through the first fastener aperture and the second fastener aperture, such that the fastener is substantially perpendicular to the first wall and the second wall; wherein the first hangar bar member slidably engages the second hangar bar member; wherein the first wall and the second wall of both the first and the second attachment structures are parallel; wherein the assembly further comprises a first fastener and a second fastener, each of the first and the second fasteners being maintained in one of the first fastener apertures; wherein each of the first and the second fasteners comprises a nail, the nail comprising lands and grooves arranged near the end of the nail; wherein the second fastener apertures are configured to allow the first and the second fasteners to pass therethrough in an unimpeded fashion; wherein the first and second attachment structures are configured to receive first and second upper rails, respectively, of first and second T-grid supports, respectively; wherein, when the first and second attachment structures receive the first and second upper rails, respectively, the assembly is at least partially supported by the T-grid supports; wherein the first and second attachment structures are configured to be mounted to first and second joists, respectively, each of the first and second joists comprising a side surface and a bottom surface; wherein the second wall of each of the first and second attachment structures comprises a first surface; wherein each of the first end second attachment structures comprises a second surface that is perpendicular to the first surface; wherein each of the first and second attachment structures further comprises a slot formed in the second surface; and wherein, when the first and second attachment structures are mounted to the first and second joists, respectively, the first surface of the second wall of the first attachment structure is adjacent the side surface of the first joist, the second surface of the first attachment structure is adjacent the bottom surface of the first joist, the first surface of the second wall of the second attachment structure is adjacent the side surface of the second joist, and the second surface of the second attachment structure is adjacent the bottom surface of the second joist. 28. A hangar bar assembly for a recessed luminaire, the hangar bar assembly being configured so that the hangar bar assembly can be supported by two T-grid supports spaced in a parallel relation and/or mounted to two joists spaced in a parallel relation, each of the two joists comprising side and bottom surfaces, the hangar bar assembly comprising: a first hangar bar member comprising a first attachment structure disposed on an end thereof, at least a portion of the first attachment structure adapted to be adjacent the bottom surface of one of the two joists when the hangar bar assembly is mounted to the two joists, the first attachment structure comprising first and second surfaces spaced in a parallel relation and between which an upper rail of one of the two T-grid supports at least partially extends when the hangar bar assembly is supported by the two T-grid supports, the first attachment structure further comprising: first and second walls spaced in a parallel relation, the second wall adapted to be adjacent the side surface of the one of the two joists when the hangar bar assembly is mounted to the two joists; a first substantially circular aperture formed in the first wall; a second substantially circular aperture formed in the second wall and axially aligned on a first common central axis with the first aperture; and a first nail maintained in the first aperture in a first plane relative to the first central axis, the first nail comprising one or more lands and one or more grooves, the first nail adapted to extend through the second aperture and into the one of the two joists when the hangar bar assembly is mounted to the two joists; wherein the second fastener aperture is configured to guide the first nail such that the first nail remains in said first plane when driven through the first fastener aperture and the second fastener aperture; and a second hangar bar member adjacent to, and slidably engaged with, the first hangar bar member, the second hangar bar member comprising a second attachment structure disposed on an end thereof, at least a portion of the second attachment structure adapted to be adjacent the bottom surface of the other of the two joists when the hangar bar assembly is mounted to the two joists, the second attachment structure comprising third and fourth surfaces spaced in a parallel relation and between which an upper rail of the other of the two T-grid supports at least partially extends when the hangar bar assembly is supported by the two T-grid supports, the second attachment structure farther comprising: third and fourth walls spaced in a parallel relation, the fourth wall adapted to be adjacent the side surface of the other of the two joists when the hangar bar assembly is mounted to the two joists; a third substantially circular aperture formed in the third wall; a fourth substantially circular aperture formed in the fourth wall and axially aligned on a second common central axis with the third aperture; a second nail maintained in the third aperture in a second plane relative to the second central axis, the second nail comprising one or more lands and one or more grooves, the second nail adapted to extend through the fourth aperture and into the other of the two joists when the hangar bar assembly is mounted to the two joists; and wherein the fourth fastener aperture is configured to guide the second nail such that the second nail remains in said second plane when driven through the third fastener aperture and the fourth fastener aperture. 29. A hangar bar assembly for a recessed luminaire comprising: a first hangar bar member including a first attachment structure disposed on an end thereof; a second hangar bar member including a second attachment structure disposed on an end thereof, the second hangar bar member being adjacent to the first hangar bar member; wherein the first and the second attachment structures each include a first wall having a first fastener aperture and a second wall having a second fastener aperture, the first and second fastener apertures being formed about a common central axis; wherein the first wall and the second wall are positioned in substantially parallel panes; further comprising a first fastener and a second fastener, wherein each of the first and second fasteners are maintained in one of the first fastener apertures by a friction fit; and wherein the second fastener aperture is configured to guide a fastener disposed in the first fastener aperture and the second fastener aperture such that the fastener is substantially perpendicular to the first wall and the second wall. 30. The hangar bar assembly of claim 29, further comprising a first stub extending between the first wall and the second wall of the first attachment structure; and a second stub extending between the first wall and the second wall of the second attachment structure. 31. The hangar bar assembly of claim 30, wherein the first stub is substantially perpendicular to the first wall and the second wall of the first attachment structure; and the second stub is substantially perpendicular to the first wall and the second wall of the second attachment structure. 32. The hangar bar assembly of claim 29, wherein each of the first fastener apertures and the second fastener apertures are substantially circular. 33. The hangar bar assembly of claim 32, wherein the first fastener aperture is slightly smaller than the second fastener aperture.
