A four-octave soprano steel pan set includes a first pan and a second pan. Each pan is divided into three concentric rings and six radial sectors. An outermost of the three rings is further radially divided into two portions, to form twenty-four note pads. Each note pad is adapted to produce a distinct musical pitch when struck. Each of the radial sectors has four note pads therein, the four note pads in each of the radial sectors in octave relation to each other. Thus the twelve total radial sectors of the first and the second pan contain the notes sufficient to span four octaves.

What is claimed is: 1. A four-octave soprano steel pan set comprising a first pan and a second pan, each divided into three concentric rings and six radial sectors, each radial sector of an outermost of the three rings further radially divided into two portions, to form twenty-four note pads, each
What is claimed is: 1. A four-octave soprano steel pan set comprising a first pan and a second pan, each divided into three concentric rings and six radial sectors, each radial sector of an outermost of the three rings further radially divided into two portions, to form twenty-four note pads, each note pad producing a distinct musical pitch when struck, each of the radial sectors having four note pads therein, the four note pads in each of the radial sectors in octave relation to each other, wherein the twelve total radial sectors of the first and the second pan contain the notes sufficient to span four octaves. 2. The steel pan set recited in claim 1, wherein, for each sector, a note pad on an innermost ring comprises a highest note in the sector, two note pads in the outermost ring comprise two and three octaves above the innermost note pad, and a note pad in a middle ring comprises an octave above the innermost note pad. 3. The steel pan set recited in claim 1, wherein adjacent notes are located on note pads on opposed ones of the first and the second pan. 4. The steel pan set recited in claim 1, wherein the note pads are adapted to play in a range of C4 to F6. 5. A tablature system for use with the soprano pan set recited in claim 4 comprising: a pan staff comprising three horizontal staff lines positioned atop, and in spaced relation from, each other, a first staff line representing note pads encompassing a first range of C4 through B5, a second staff line positioned adjacent the first staff line representing note pads encompassing a second range of C5 through B6, and a third staff line positioned adjacent the second staff line on an opposite side from the first staff line representing note pads encompassing a third range of C7 through B7; for each note pad to be represented, a rhythmic indicator positioned adjacent the staff line commensurate with the ring on which the note pad to be represented lies; and for each note pad to be represented, a note name corresponding to the note pad to be represented, the note name positioned adjacent the respective rhythmic indicator. 6. The tablature system recited in claim 5, wherein the first staff line is positioned atop the second staff line. 7. The tablature system recited in claim 5, wherein the third staff line is positioned atop the second staff line. 8. A method of making a four-octave soprano steel pan set comprising: making a first pan and a second pan, each having twenty-four note pads, each note pad producing a distinct musical pitch when struck; dividing each of the first and the second pan into three concentric rings and six radial sectors; radially dividing each radial sector of an outermost of the three rings into two portions, to form twenty-four note pads, each of the radial sectors having four note pads therein; and tuning the note pads so that the four note pads in each of the radial sectors are in octave relation to each other, wherein the twelve total radial sectors of the first and the second pan contain the notes sufficient to span four octaves. 9. The method recited in claim 8, wherein, for each sector, the tuning step comprises tuning a note pad on an innermost ring to be a highest note in the sector, two note pads in the outermost ring, two and three octaves above the innermost note pad, and a note pad in a middle ring, an octave above the innermost note pad. 10. The method recited in claim 8, wherein the tuning step comprises forming adjacent notes so as to be located on note pads on opposed ones of the first and the second pan. 11. The method recited in claim 8, wherein the tuning step comprises forming note pads adapted to play in a range of C4 to F6.
