Certain embodiments of the present invention provide a system for improved signal processing within a remote sensor system. The system includes a detection component and a processing component. The detection component is adapted to detect an event and generate a signal based at least in part on the event. The processing component adapted to determine an envelope of the signal based at least in part on a situation. Certain embodiments of the present invention provide a method for improved signal processing within a remote sensor system. The system includes detecting an event, generating a signal based at least in part on the event, and determining an envelope of the signal based at least in part on a situation.

The invention claimed is: 1. A system for improved signal processing within a remote sensor system, the system including: a selection component configured to select a situation from a plurality of selectable situations; a detection component configured to: detect an event, and generate a signal based at least in part on the detected event; a processing component configured to: determine at least one processing parameter based at least in part on the selected situation, and determine an envelope of the signal based at least in part on the determined at least one processing parameter, wherein the selection of the selected situation occurs prior to detecting the event. 2. The system of claim 1, wherein the detection component includes a seismic detector. 3. The system of claim 1, wherein the situation includes at least one of a target type, an environment, and a dynamic environmental condition. 4. The system of claim 1, further including an analysis component, wherein the analysis component includes a pulse analysis component. 5. The system of claim 1, wherein the processing component is configured to determine one or more low frequency components of the envelope of the signal. 6. The system of claim 5, further including an analysis component, wherein the analysis component is configured to compare the envelope of the signal and the low frequency components of the envelope of the signal. 7. The system of claim 6, wherein the analysis component is configured to compare a ratio of the envelope of the signal and the low frequency components of the envelope of the signal. 8. The system of claim 6, wherein the analysis component is configured to compare power in the envelope of the signal and power in the low frequency components of the envelope of the signal. 9. The system of claim 6, wherein the analysis component is configured to compare two or more groups of frequency components. 10. The system of claim 1, further including a classification component configured to classify the event as at least one of a constant source and an impulse source. 11. A method for improved signal processing within a remote sensor system, the method including: using at least one computing device to perform the steps of: selecting a situation from a plurality of selectable situations; and after selecting the situation: detecting an event; generating a signal based at least in part on the detected event; and determining an envelope of the signal based at least in part on at least one processing parameter determined based at least in part on the selected situation. 12. The method of claim 11, wherein the situation includes at least one of a target type, an environment, and a dynamic environmental condition. 13. The method of claim 11, further including analyzing the envelope of the signal. 14. The method of claim 11, wherein the processing step includes determining one or more low frequency components of the envelope of the signal. 15. The method of claim 14, wherein the analysis step includes comparing the envelope of the signal and the low frequency components of the envelope of the signal. 16. The method of claim 15, wherein the analysis step include comparing a ratio of the envelope of the signal and the low frequency components of the envelope of the signal. 17. The method of claim 15, wherein the analysis step includes comparing power in the envelope of the signal and power in the low frequency components of the envelope of the signal. 18. The method of claim 15, wherein the analysis step includes comparing two or more groups of frequency components. 19. The method of claim 11, further including classifying the event as at least one of a constant source and an impulse source. 20. A computer readable storage medium including a set of instructions for execution on a computer, the set of instructions including: a selection routine configured to select a situation from a plurality of selectable situations; a detection routine configured to: detect an event, and generate a signal based at least in part on the detected event; and a processing routine configured to: determine at least one processing parameter based at least in part on the selected situation, and determine an envelope of the signal based at least in part on the determined at least one processing parameter, wherein execution of the selection routine occurs prior to execution of the detection routine and the processing routine.
