A flexible packaging laminate is formed to have a built-in opening and reclose feature by forming the laminate as a two-part structure having an outer structure joined in face-to-face relation with an inner structure. Score lines are formed in both structures to enable an opening to be formed through the laminate by lifting an opening portion (e.g., a flap or the like) of the two structures out of the plane of the laminate. The score line through the outer structure defines a larger opening than the score line through the inner structure, such that a marginal region of the outer structure extends beyond the edge of the opening portion of the inner structure. A pressure-sensitive adhesive is used to re-adhere the marginal region to an underlying surface of the inner structure adjacent the opening through the laminate.

What is claimed is: 1. A flexible packaging structure for use in a container for products, comprising: a flexible wrapper comprising a laminate constructed from an outer structure adhesively laminated to an inner structure, the outer and inner structures being coextensive such that each has a width equal to a width of the wrapper, the outer and inner structures having therebetween a pattern-applied pressure-sensitive adhesive disposed in a predetermined pattern and a pattern-applied permanent laminating adhesive disposed in a predetermined pattern not covering the predetermined pattern of pressure-sensitive adhesive; and an opening and reclose feature formed in the laminate, and comprising an outer flap portion formed by an outer score line through the outer structure, and an inner flap portion formed by an inner score line though the inner structure, the inner score line being displaced from the outer score line so as to form therebetween a marginal region of the outer flap portion that extends beyond an edge of the inner flap portion, the inner score line creating an opening into the container when the flap portions are peeled back, the outer score line penetrating though the thickness of the outer structure but not though the inner structure, and the inner score line penetrating though the thickness of the inner structure but not though the outer structure; the pattern-applied permanent adhesive being confined to areas of the laminate outside the marginal region defined between the outer and inner score lines, and the pattern-applied pressure-sensitive adhesive being present in the marginal region, such that the pressure-sensitive adhesive serves for attaching and re-attaching the marginal region of the outer flap portion to an underlying surface of the inner structure. 2. The flexible packaging structure of claim 1, wherein one of the outer and inner structures has a greater affinity for bonding to the pressure-sensitive adhesive than does the other of the outer and inner structures such that the pressure-sensitive adhesive remains with the one of the outer and inner structures. 3. The flexible packaging structure of claim 1, wherein the marginal region of the outer opening portion is generally U-shaped. 4. The flexible packaging structure of claim 1, wherein the outer structure includes a layer that is reverse-printed on a surface of the layer facing the inner structure. 5. The flexible packaging structure of claim 1, wherein the inner structure includes a layer of heat-sealable material forming an inner surface of the flexible packaging structure. 6. The flexible packaging structure of claim 1, wherein the inner structure includes a barrier layer providing a barrier against passage of at least one of moisture and oxygen. 7. The flexible packaging structure of claim 5, wherein the barrier layer comprises a polymer film having a coating of vapor-deposited metal. 8. The flexible packaging structure of claim 1, wherein the outer structure comprises a layer of polyethylene terephthalate, and the inner structure comprises a multi-layer web comprising a metallized film and a sealant layer. 9. The flexible packaging structure of claim 8, wherein the metallized film comprises metallized oriented polypropylene. 10. The flexible packaging structure of claim 1 in combination with a container body having a side wall and a flange extending from an upper edge of the side wall, wherein the flexible packaging structure comprises a lid, the lid being attached to the flange to seal closed the package. 11. A package for products, comprising: a flexible wrapper for enveloping the products, the wrapper having a width and being formed as a flexible packaging laminate having opposite longitudinal edges, the laminate being formed by an outer structure and an inner structure each having a width equal to the width of the wrapper, the outer structure being adhesively joined in face-to-face relation to the inner structure such that respective opposite longitudinal edges of the outer and inner structures are substantially coincident with each other and define the longitudinal edges of the laminate, substantially the entire surfaces of the inner and outer structures being adhesively laminated to each other by pattern-applied permanent laminating adhesive and pattern-applied pressure-sensitive adhesive, the pattern-applied pressure-sensitive adhesive being disposed in a predetermined pattern and the pattern-applied permanent laminating adhesive being disposed in a predetermined pattern not covering the predetermined pattern of pressure-sensitive adhesive, the outer structure forming an outer surface of the wrapper and comprising at least one layer of flexible material, the inner structure comprising at least a flexible barrier layer facing the outer structure and a polymer sealant layer forming an inner surface of the wrapper; and an opening and reclose feature formed in the laminate, and comprising an outer flap portion formed by scoring through the outer structure along a generally U-shaped outer score line, and an inner flap portion formed by scoring through the inner structure along a generally U-shaped inner score line, the inner score line creating an opening into the wrapper when the flap portions are peeled back, a marginal region of the outer flap portion extending beyond an edge of the inner flap portion and overlying an underlying surface of the inner structure, the flap portions being joined with the pattern-applied permanent adhesive, and the pattern-applied pressure-sensitive adhesive being disposed between the marginal region of the outer flap portion and the underlying surface of the inner structure for attaching and re-attaching the outer flap portion to the underlying surface. 12. A flexible lid for attachment to an open end of a container, the lid comprising: a laminate having a width defined between opposite longitudinal edges of the laminate, the laminate being formed by an outer structure and an inner structure each having a width equal to the width of the laminate, the outer structure being adhesively joined in face-to-face relation to the inner structure such that respective opposite longitudinal edges of the outer and inner structures are substantially coincident with each other and define the longitudinal edges of the laminate, the outer structure comprising at least one layer of flexible material and the inner structure comprising at least one layer of flexible material, substantially the entire surfaces of the inner and outer structures being adhesively joined to each other by pattern-applied permanent laminating adhesive and pattern-applied pressure-sensitive adhesive, the pattern-applied pressure-sensitive adhesive being disposed in a predetermined pattern and the pattern-applied permanent laminating adhesive being disposed in a predetermined pattern not covering the predetermined pattern of pressure-sensitive adhesive; an outer score line formed through the outer structure, the outer score line delineating an outer opening portion that is separable from the outer structure along the outer score line; an inner score line formed through the inner structure, the inner score line delineating an inner opening portion that is separable from the inner structure along the inner score line; wherein the inner opening portion is joined to the outer opening portion by the pattern-applied permanent laminating adhesive such that lifting the outer opening portion out of the plane of the lid causes the inner opening portion to be lifted along with the outer opening portion so as to create an opening through the flexible lid; and wherein a marginal region of the outer opening portion extends beyond an edge of the inner opening portion and overlies an underlying surface of the inner structure, and wherein the pattern-applied pressure-sensitive adhesive is disposed on one of the marginal region of the outer structure and the underlying surface of the inner structure for re-adhering the marginal region to the underlying surface after initial opening. 13. The lid of claim 12 in combination with a container comprising a side wall having an upper edge, wherein the lid is attached to the upper edge to seal closed the container. 14.
