Method for vehicle component control based on occupancy of the vehicle includes determining at least one morphological characteristic of the occupant, classifying the occupant based only on the determined morphological characteristic(s) to provide an identification of the occupant, and adjusting a component of the vehicle based on the identification. Morphological characteristics include weight of the occupant and height of the occupant. The morphological characteristics can be determined using only sensors arranged in a seat on which the occupant is seated. Classification of the occupant can include generating a table of classifications for different determinations of the morphological characteristic, either individually or combinations of two or more morphological characteristics, so that an identification is provided based on each determination, detection or measurement of the morphological characteristic(s).

The invention claimed is: 1. A method for vehicle component control based on occupancy of a seat in the vehicle, comprising: determining at least one morphological characteristic of the occupant in the seat by means of a plurality of measuring transducers arranged in the seat; classifying the occupant, using a processor, based only on the determined at least one morphological characteristic to provide an identification of the occupant; and adjusting a component of the vehicle based on the identification. 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one morphological characteristic is weight of the occupant. 3. The method of claim 2, wherein one of the measuring transducers is a weight sensor arranged within or underneath a cushion of the seat on which the occupant is seated. 4. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one morphological characteristic is height from the seat on which the occupant is seated. 5. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one morphological characteristic is a plurality of morphological characteristics. 6. The method of claim 1, further comprising: enabling the occupant to modify the component to a further adjusted state using a component adjustment system; storing, in a storage component, the occupant modification of the component in association with the determined at least one morphological characteristic; and at a subsequent time when the same at least one morphological characteristic is determined, adjusting the component to the occupant adjusted state. 7. The method of claim 1, wherein the component is the seat. 8. The method of claim 1, wherein the component is a radio, heat/air-conditioning system, or steering wheel. 9. The method of claim 1, wherein the component is an airbag system comprising an airbag that deploys to protect the occupant in the seat. 10. The method of claim 1, wherein the component is a seatbelt tension producing system that produces tension in a seatbelt associated with the seat. 11. The method of claim 1, wherein the component is a seatbelt system that is associated with the seat and wherein the force exerted on the occupant by the seatbelt during a crash involving the vehicle is controlled. 12. The method of claim 1, wherein the measuring transducers consist of sensors arranged in the seat and the at least one morphological characteristic is determined using only the sensors arranged in the seat on which the occupant is seated. 13. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of classifying the occupant comprises generating a table of classifications for different determinations of the at least one morphological characteristic using the measuring transducers. 14. A method for vehicle component control based on occupancy of a seat in the vehicle, comprising: determining weight of the occupant and height of the occupant from the seat on which the occupant is seated in the seat by means of at least one weight measuring transducer arranged in the seat and a height measuring transducer arranged in the seat, respectively; classifying the occupant, using a processor, based only on the determined weight and height to provide an identification of the occupant; and adjusting a component of the vehicle based on the identification. 15. The method of claim 14, wherein the weight is determined by means of a weight sensor arranged underneath a cushion of or within the seat on which the occupant is seated. 16. The method of claim 14, further comprising: enabling the occupant to modify the component to a further adjusted state using a component adjustment system; storing, in a storage component, the occupant modification of the component in association with the determined weight and height; and at a subsequent time when the same weight and height is determined, adjusting the component to the occupant adjusted state. 17. The method of claim 14, wherein the component is the seat. 18. The method of claim 14, wherein the component is a radio, heat/air-conditioning system, or steering wheel. 19. The method of claim 14, wherein the component is an airbag system comprising an airbag that deploys to protect the occupant in the seat. 20. The method of claim 14, wherein the component is a seatbelt tension producing system that produces tension in a seatbelt associated with the seat. 21. The method of claim 14, wherein the component is a seatbelt system that is associated with the seat and wherein the force exerted on the occupant by the seatbelt during a crash involving the vehicle is controlled. 22. The method of claim 14, wherein the at least one weight measuring transducer and the height measuring transducer consist of only sensors arranged in the seat. 23. The method of claim 14, wherein the step of classifying the occupant comprises generating a table of classifications for different determinations of the weight and height. 24. A method for vehicle component control based on occupancy of a seat in the vehicle, comprising: determining at least one morphological characteristic of the occupant in the seat by means of a plurality of measuring transducers arranged in the seat; classifying the occupant based the determined at least one morphological characteristic to provide an identification of the occupant without determining the occupant's position; and adjusting a component of the vehicle based on the identification.
