A fitting assembly for use in making an electrofusion weld joint, comprising: a meltable member, wherein said meltable member is a fitting having first and second ends, each of said ends being adapted to receive a pipe; at least one fastener; and a heating element secured to said meltable member by said at least one fastener, said at least one fastener being through a surface of said meltable member and embedded within said meltable member such that a first portion of said at least one fastener is within said meltable member and a second portion of said at least one fastener being outside of said meltable member, said meltable member having a substantially circular cross section and each of said ends surrounding an empty space devoid of pipe, and said meltable member being devoid of pipe. 2. The assembly of claim 1, wherein at least one of said first and second ends of said fitting is tapered. 3. The assembly of claim 2, wherein said taper is about 3 to 10 degrees. 4. The assembly of claim 1, wherein said heating element has a substantially zigzag shape, said substantially zigzag shape having a plurality of bends. 5. The assembly of claim 4, wherein said bends are angular. 6. The assembly of claim 4, wherein said bends are rounded. 7. The assembly of claim 1, wherein said assembly includes said first and second pipes inserted over said at least one embedded fastener in said first and second ends, respectively. 8. The assembly of claim 1, wherein said at least one fastener contacts said heating element. 9. A fitting assembly for use in making an electrofusion weld joint, comprising: a meltable fitting having first and second ends adapted to receive first and second pipes, respectively; at least one fastener; and a heating element secured to said fitting by said at least one fastener, said fastener being through a surface of said meltable member and embedded within said fitting without any pipe being disposed in said fitting such that a first portion of said at least one fastener is within said meltable fitting and a second portion of said at least one fastener being outside of said meltable fitting. 10. The assembly of claim 9, wherein at least one of said first and second ends of said fitting is tapered. 11. The assembly of claim 10, wherein said taper is about 3 to 10 degrees. 12. The assembly of claim 9, wherein said heating element has a substantially zigzag shape, said substantially zigzag shape having a plurality of bends. 13. The assembly of claim 12, wherein said bends are angular. 14. The assembly of claim 12, wherein said bends are rounded. 15. The assembly of claim 9, wherein said at least one fastener contacts said heating element.
