A method and system for managing the creation and delivery of an electronic group message is disclosed. The electronic group message can be provided to two or more (i.e., a group) of signers to sign the electronic group message. Once signed, the electronic group message can be provided to one or more recipients. Alternatively, the electronic group message can be provided from a signer to a plurality of recipients, where different recipients receive different messages. One type of electronic group message is an electronic card known as a care card.

A method for providing a card to a recipient, said method comprising: creating an initial electronic card destined for a recipient; identifying a plurality of potential signers of the electronic card; transmitting the electronic card to each of the potential signers; receiving messages for the electronic card from a plurality of the potential signers; determining, by a server machine, whether any of the plurality of the potential signers have provided a gift for the recipient; modifying, by the server machine, the electronic card to include (i) the messages and (ii) indicators for those of the potential signers that have been determined to have provided gifts; and providing the modified electronic card, or a printed version thereof, to the recipient, whereby the recipient is provided with the messages as well as the indicators for those of the potential signers that have been determined to have provided gifts. 3. A method as recited in claim 1, wherein the electronic card transmitted to the potential signers facilitates electronic purchase of the gift. 4. A method as recited in claim 1, wherein said method further comprises: providing, to the recipient, the gifts from those of the potential signers that have been determined to have provided gifts. 5. A method as recited in claim 1, wherein the gift includes a group gift, and wherein at least a portion of the plurality of the potential signers provide the group gift for the recipient by contributing to the group gift. 6. A method as recited in claim 1, wherein the gift includes a group gift, and wherein those of the potential signers that have provided a gift for the recipient include at least those of the potential signers that have contributed to the group gift. 7. A method as recited in claim 1, wherein the gift is a group gift. 8. A method as recited in claim 1, wherein the modified electronic card is not provided to the potential signers, thereby the personal messages are provided to the recipient but not to other potential signers. 9. A method as recited in claim 1, wherein the electronic card transmitted to each of the potential signers facilitates not only the providing of the personal messages but also facilitates providing a gift for the recipient. 10. A method as recited in claim 1, wherein the electronic card transmitted to each of the potential signers facilitates not only the providing of the personal messages but also facilitates providing the donation to the charitable organization. 11. A method as recited in claim 1, wherein the donation receipt is electronically provided to the signers that have made a donation. 12. A method as recited in claim 1, wherein recipient is provided with a printed version of the modified electronic card. 13. A method as recited in claim 1, wherein said method further comprises: enabling the potential signers to participate in a group charitable contribution. 14. A computer-implemented method for providing a group message card to at least one recipient, said method comprising: (a) receiving card initiation information for the group message card; (b) requesting messages from each of a plurality of participants; (c) receiving, by a server machine, a public message and a private message from each of a set of recipients from the plurality of participants; (d) forming, by the server machine, a group message card, the group message card being formed by (i) consolidating the public messages and the private messages from the set of participants to form a group message card, (ii) determining whether any of the plurality of the participants have provided a gift for the at least one recipient, and (iii) including indicators in the group message card to identify those of the plurality of participants that have been determined to have provided gifts; and (e) sending the group message card to the at least one recipient, wherein the group message card delivered to the at least one recipient includes the public messages and the private messages as well as the indicators that identify those of the plurality of participants that have been determined to have provided gifts. 15. A method as recited in claim 14, wherein said method further comprises: (f) permitting the set of participants to view the public messages of the group message card but not the private messages of at least the other of the participants. 16. A method as recited in claim 14, wherein the card initiation information comprises recipient information, card selection information, participant information and a base message. 17. A method as recited in claim 16, wherein the group message card delivered to the at least one recipient includes the base message, the public messages and the private messages, and wherein said method further comprises: (f) permitting the set of participants to view the base message and the public messages of the group message card but not the private messages of at least the other of the participants. 18. A method as recited in claim 14, wherein said method further comprises: (f) enabling the at least one recipient to return messages to at least one of the participants. 19. A method as recited in claim 18, wherein the at least one return message includes a public message to all the participants and at least one private message to one of the participants. 20. A method as recited in claim 18, wherein the at least one return message includes at least one private message to one or a subset of the participants. 21. A method as recited in claim 14, wherein the group message card includes a name of each of the participants and an indication of those who have provided a gift. 22. A method as recited in claim 21, wherein the gift is an individual gift or a contribution to a group gift. 23. A method for delivering an entity sponsored group message card to a recipient, said method comprising: receiving a group message card request from a representative of the entity, the group message card request including a base message for the group message card and identification of a plurality of signers, the signers being associated with the entity; distributing a participation request to the signers to participate in the group message card by providing a public message and/or a private message for the recipient; receiving the public messages and the private messages from the signers that participate; determining, by a server machine, whether any of the plurality of the signers that participate have provided a gift for the recipient; forming the group message card based on the base message, the public messages and the private messages, and indicators identifying those of the signers that have been determined to have participated in providing a gift for the recipient; and sending the group message card to the recipient, whereby the group message card includes the indicators identifying those of the signers that have been determined to have participated in providing the gift. 24. A method as recited in claim 23, wherein the group message card sent to the recipient is a private version of the group message card, and wherein said method further comprises: forming a public version of the group message card based on the base message and the public messages but not the private messages; and permitting the participants to access the public version of the group message card. 25. A computer readable storage medium including at least computer program code stored therein for providing an electronic card to a recipient, said computer readable storage medium comprising: computer program code for creating an initial electronic card destined for a recipient; computer program code for identifying a plurality of potential signers of the electronic card; computer program code for transmitting the electronic card to each of the potential signers; computer program code for receiving messages for the electronic card from a plurality of the potential signers; computer program code for determining whether any of the plurality of the potential signers have provided a gift for the recipient; computer program code for modifying, the electronic card to include (i) the messages and (ii) indicators identifying those of the potential signers that have been determined to have provided gifts; and computer program code for sending the modified electronic card to the recipient, thereby enabling the recipient of the modified electronic card to receive the personal messages as well as the indicators identifying those of the potential signers that have been determined to have provided gifts. 26. A server machine for providing an electronic card to a recipient, comprising: a memory for storing at least computer program code; and a processor configured to execute the computer program code stored in said memory, wherein the computer program code stored in said memory includes at least: computer program code for creating an initial electronic card destined for a recipient; computer program code for identifying a plurality of potential signers of the electronic card; computer program code for transmitting the electronic card to each of the potential signers; computer program code for receiving messages for the electronic card from a plurality of the potential signers; computer program code for determining whether any of the plurality of the potential signers have provided a gift for the recipient; computer program code for modifying, the electronic card to include (i) the messages and (ii) indicators identifying those of the potential signers that have been determined to have provided gifts; and computer program code for sending the modified electronic card to the recipient, thereby enabling the recipient of the modified electronic card to receive the messages as well as the indicators identifying those of the potential signers that have been determined to have provided gifts.
