An embodiment of the present invention provides an apparatus, comprising an RF matching network connected to at least one RF input port and at least one RF output port and including one or more voltage or current controlled variable reactive elements; a voltage detector connected to the at least one RF output port via a variable voltage divider to determine the voltage at the at least one RF output port and provide voltage information to a controller that controls a bias driving circuit which provides voltage or current bias to the RF matching network; a variable voltage divider connected to the voltage detector and implemented using a multi-pole RF switch to select one of a plurality of different resistance ratios to improve the dynamic range of the apparatus; and wherein the RF matching network is adapted to maximize RF power transferred from the at least one RF input port to the at least one RF output port by varying the voltage or current to the voltage or current controlled variable reactive elements to maximize the RF voltage at the at least one RF output port.

An apparatus, comprising: an RF matching network coupled to at least one RF input port and at least one RF output port and including one or more voltage or current controlled variable reactive elements; a voltage detector coupled to said at least one RF output port via a variable voltage divider to determine the voltage at said at least one RF output port and provide voltage information to a controller that controls a bias driving circuit which provides voltage or current bias to said RF matching network; a variable voltage divider coupled to said voltage detector and implemented using a multi-pole RF switch to select one of a plurality of different resistance ratios to improve the dynamic range of said apparatus; and wherein said RF matching network is adapted to maximize RF power transferred from said at least one RF input port to said at least one RF output port by varying the voltage or current to said voltage or current controlled variable reactive elements to maximize the RF voltage at said at least one RF output port. 2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said voltage detector is a diode detector and wherein said variable voltage divider coupled to said voltage detector is adapted to improve the dynamic range of said apparatus. 3. The apparatus of claim 2, further comprising a loop controller associated with said variable voltage divider to make said variable voltage divider programmable. 4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said variable voltage divider is operable to allow a detector at said output port to be more isolated at higher power levels and improve linearity of the module for high signal levels. 5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said RF output node is connected to a shunt RF branch comprising a series string of capacitors. 6. The apparatus of claim 5, wherein by selectively tapping into various circuit nodes along said string, a variable output voltage divider is obtained. 7. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein tapping into various circuit nodes is accomplished by a digitally controlled RF switch. 8. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein said RF switch is selected from the group consisting of: FETs, MEMS or PIN diodes. 9. The apparatus of claim 7, further comprising a resistor placed on the capacitor side of said RF switch and thereby allow said resistor to be built on-chip. 10. A method of adaptive impedance matching, comprising: coupling an RF matching network to at least one RF input port and at least one RF output port and including one or more voltage or current controlled variable reactive elements; using a voltage detector coupled to said at least one RF output port via a variable voltage divider, implemented by using a multi-pole RF switch to select one of plurality of different resistance ratios, to determine the voltage at said at least one RF output port and providing said voltage information to a controller that controls a bias driving circuit which provides voltage or current bias to said RF matching network; and adapting said RF matching network to maximize RF power transferred from said at least one RF input port to said at least one RF output port by varying the voltage or current to said voltage or current controlled variable reactive elements to maximize the RF voltage at said at least one RF output port. 11. The method of claim 10, wherein said voltage detector is a diode detector and wherein said variable voltage divider coupled to said voltage detector is adapted to improve the dynamic range of said apparatus. 12. The method of claim 10, further comprising associating a loop controller with said variable voltage divider to make said variable voltage divider programmable. 13. The method of claim 10, further comprising connecting said RE output node to a shunt RE branch comprising a series string of capacitors. 14. The method of claim 13, further comprising selectively tapping into various circuit nodes along said string. 15. The method of claim 14, further comprising using a digitally controlled RE switch to tap into various circuit nodes. 16. The method of claim 15, further comprising placing a resistor on the capacitor side of said RE switch and in each line going to tap points of said capacitors thereby allowing said resistor to be built on-chip. 17. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the one or more variable reactive elements comprise at least one of one or more capacitors and one or more inductors. 18. The apparatus of claim 17, wherein the one or more capacitors comprise one of one or more variable impedance capacitors and one or more switched capacitors each having a fixed impedance, and wherein the one or more inductors comprise one of one or more variable impedance inductors and one or more switched inductors each having a fixed impedance. 19. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the RF matching network comprises at least one of semiconductor varactors, micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) varactors, MEMS switched reactive elements, semiconductor switched reactive elements, and ferroelectric capacitors. 20. The method of claim 10, wherein the one or more variable reactive elements comprise at least one of one or more capacitors and one or more inductors. 21. The method of claim 20, wherein the one or more capacitors comprise one of one or more variable impedance capacitors and one or more switched capacitors each having a fixed impedance, and wherein the one or more inductors comprise one of one or more variable impedance inductors and one or more switched inductors each having a fixed impedance. 22. The method of claim 10, wherein the RF matching network comprises at least one of semiconductor varactors, micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) varactors, MEMS switched reactive elements, semiconductor switched reactive elements, and ferroelectric capacitors. 23. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium, comprising computer instructions for causing a machine to: determine from a voltage detector coupled to an RF output port of an RF matching network comprising one or more variable reactive elements a voltage at the RF output port; and adapt according to the detected voltage the matching network to increase an RF voltage at the RF output port by varying the one or more variable reactive elements. 24. The storage medium of claim 23, wherein the voltage detector is coupled to the RF output port by way of a variable voltage divider. 25. The storage medium of claim 24, wherein the variable voltage divider comprises an RF switch to select one of a plurality of resistance ratios. 26. The storage medium of claim 23, comprising computer instructions to direct a driving circuit to provide voltage or current bias to said RF matching network to increase the RF voltage at the RF output port. 27. The storage medium of claim 23, wherein the one or more variable reactive elements comprise at least one of one or more capacitors and one or more inductors. 28. The storage medium of claim 27, wherein the one or more capacitors comprise one of one or more variable impedance capacitors and one or more switched capacitors each having a fixed impedance, and wherein the one or more inductors comprise one of one or more variable impedance inductors and one or more switched inductors each having a fixed impedance. 29. The storage medium of claim 23, wherein the RF matching network comprises at least one of semiconductor varactors, micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) varactors, MEMS switched reactive elements, semiconductor switched reactive elements, and ferroelectric capacitors.
