A packaging system and method which provides at least one tray or nest, having a number of wells and ribs to position and secure a patch-like, self-contained substance infusion device having one or more patient needles which can be placed in fluid communication with a fluid reservoir assembly within the device and upon which a disk, or Belleville spring assembly, applies an essentially even and constant pressure to the contents. The device further provides for the release of one or more spring-loaded patient needles into a patient's skin surface to establish a fluid communication path between the patient needles and the pressurized fluid reservoir contents.

What is claimed is: 1. A material handling and packaging system for filling devices for delivering a medicament into the body of a patient utilizing a filling device having a filling nozzle, comprising: a plurality of devices, each device of said plurality of devices comprising, a housing comprising a bottom surface, a top surface, and a longitudinal axis comprising a predetermined orientation with respect to at least said bottom surface or said top surface; and a reservoir disposed within said housing, forming a chamber for containing a medicament, said reservoir having a body opening comprising a predetermined orientation with respect to said housing longitudinal axis, said body opening adapted for receiving a filling nozzle, wherein said filling nozzle is configured to dispense said medicament into said chamber; and a tray comprising a reference point and a plurality of wells for receiving said plurality of devices, each well comprising a top aperture, a bottom aperture, and at least first and second ribs, each of said first and second ribs comprising a first member extending between said top aperture and said bottom aperture within each well and a second member extending from said first member to at least partially obstruct said bottom aperture, wherein said first and second members are in line with each other and a distance between said second members of each well is less than a width of the bottom aperture of the well and wherein said bottom aperture is substantially open between said second members, to hold each device so that said longitudinal axis of each device is in a predetermined position from said reference point of said tray, and wherein the top aperture, the bottom aperture, and the first and second ribs provide a void formed between each individual device. 2. The material handling and packaging system of claim 1, wherein said void is sized such that a laminar airflow around each device is maintained. 3. The material handling and packaging system of claim 1, wherein said each well comprises a substantially planar side extending between said top aperture and said bottom aperture and wherein said first and second ribs are formed on said side of said well. 4. The material handling and packaging system of claim 1, further comprising a sealing bag into which said tray is placed prior to sterilization of said material handling and packaging system. 5. The material handling and packaging system of claim 1, wherein at least one of said first and second members of each of said ribs is configured to position said device through contact with an outside dimension of said housing of said device when said device is positioned within said well. 6. A material handling and packaging tray for filling devices configured to deliver a medicament into the body of a patient, utilizing a filling device having a filling nozzle, comprising: a nesting structure comprising at least one reference point and a plurality of wells for receiving a plurality of devices; each well comprising a top aperture, a bottom aperture, and four side walls extending therebetween; and at least first and second ribs disposed upon at least one of said side walls, each of said first and second ribs comprising a first member extending between said top aperture and said bottom aperture within each well and a second member extending from said first member to at least partially obstruct said bottom aperture, wherein said first and second members are in line with each other and a distance between said second members of each well is less than a width of the bottom aperture of the well and wherein said bottom aperture is substantially open between said second members, and wherein the first and second ribs are configured to contact and position each device within said well. 7. The material handling and packaging tray of claim 6, wherein at least one member of said ribs is configured to extend from said side wall a first distance, and at least one member of said ribs is configured to extend from said side wall a second distance, wherein said second distance is greater than said first distance. 8. The material handling and packaging tray of claim 7, wherein at least one member of said ribs is configured to position said device at said first distance from said side wall of said well, and is configured to permit device passage at said top aperture, and wherein at least one member of said ribs is configured to substantially obstruct device passage at said bottom aperture. 9. The material handling and packaging tray of claim 6, wherein each said well is configured to permit said device to be lifted within said well and exposed at said top aperture. 10. A material handling and packaging tray for filling devices configured to deliver a medicament into the body of a patient, utilizing a filling device having a filling nozzle, comprising: a nesting structure comprising a plurality of wells for receiving a plurality of devices; and each well comprising a top aperture, a bottom aperture, and four side walls extending there between, and at least first and second ribs disposed upon at least one of said side walls, each of said first and second ribs comprising a first member extending between said top aperture and said bottom aperture within each well and a second member extending from said first member to at least partially obstruct said bottom aperture, wherein said first and second members are in line with each other and a distance between said second members of each well is less than a width of the bottom aperture of the well and wherein said bottom aperture is substantially open between said second members, and wherein said first and second ribs are configured to position said device at a distance from said side wall of said well, permit device passage at said top aperture, and substantially obstruct device passage at said bottom aperture.
