An exterior wall assembly comprising:a water separation plane configured to provide a substantial barrier to the passage of air, moisture vapor and bulk liquid through the water separation plane;an interior wall layer disposed on an interior side of the water separation plane;an exterior wall layer disposed on an exterior side of the water separation;a drain configured to transport moisture from the interior side of the water separation plane and the exterior side of the water separation plane to a location outside of the exterior wall assembly;a seal attached to the drain and configured to prevent ingress of water toward the interior wall layer; anda flexible sheet disposed within the exterior wall assembly;wherein the drain comprises a bottom plate spaced apart from a top plate, and the flexible sheet is disposed between the bottom plate and the top plate, the top plate forming at least one opening communicating with the flexible sheet, and the seal comprising:a first seal attached between the flexible sheet and the top plate that is configured to enable moisture to be transported through the flexible sheet to the exterior of the exterior wall layer; anda bulk seal attached between the bottom plate and the opening formed in the exterior wall assembly that is configured to prevent the ingress of water toward the interior wall layer.
