The present invention relates to a device for delivering a supply of gases to a patient. The device includes a patient interface and connecting member. The connecting member is preferably a L-shaped swivelled connector that is capable of being fixed into one of two positions, a first position where the connector is freely rotatable within the patient interface, and a second position where an interference between the interface and connector prevents the free rotation of the connector within the patient interface. The present invention further relates to a connector that has outlet means, which includes at least one outlet vent and a funnel, which in use directs and passes a substantial portion gases expired from the patient through the outlet vent or vents.

A device for delivering a supply of gases to a patient according to claim 1 wherein said funnel in use shields said at least one outlet vent from gases supplied to said patient. 3. A device for delivering a supply of gases to a patient according to claim 1 wherein said outlet means includes a flexible portion and said at least one outlet vent is formed in said flexible portion. 4. A device for delivering a supply of gases to a user according to claim 1 wherein said patient interface is a mouthpiece. 5. A device for delivering a supply of gases to a user according to claim 1 wherein said patient interface is a nasal mask. 6. A device for delivering a supply of gases to a user according to claim 1 wherein one of said first and second ends is locatable within said patient interface and the other of said first and second ends is connectable to said supply of gases, said connecting member able to be selectively fixed into one of two positions at a time, a first position where said connecting member is freely rotatable within said patient interface, and a second position where said interference means prevents the free rotation of said connecting member within said patient interface. 7. A device for delivering a supply of gases to a patient according to claim 6 wherein said other of said first and second ends is connected to transport means for conveying gases from said supply of gases to said one of said first and second ends, said transport means being connected to said supply of gases. 8. A device for delivering a supply of gases to a patient according to claim 6 wherein said connecting member is a L-shaped elbow. 9. A device for delivering a supply of gases to a patient according to claim 6 wherein said interference means comprises the meeting of surfaces on each of the patient interface and the connecting member. 10. A device for delivering a supply of gases to a user according to claim 6 wherein said outlet means is located on said connecting member. 11. A device for delivering a supply of gases to a user comprising: a patient interface, which in use is worn by the user and is in fluid communication with a supply of gases,an elbow that connects to the patient interface for connecting, in use, a flow of inlet air from the supply of gases to the patient interface passing through the elbow, said elbow having a predetermined length and connected to said patient interface at a point of connection, the elbow having a plurality of outlet vent holes located along the length of the elbow away from the point of connection of the elbow to patient interface, and a funnel within the elbow which directs exhaled gases to the outlet vent holes, but shields the outlet vent holes from the flow of inlet air. 12. A device as claimed in claim 11 wherein the funnel is tubular in shape. 13. A device as claimed in claim 12 wherein the funnel directs gases exhaled from the user to the plurality of outlet vent holes. 14. A device as claimed in claim 12 wherein the funnel is moulded within an interior of the elbow. 15. A device as claimed in claim 12 including a plurality of outlet vent holes, the funnel directing exhaled gases to the plurality of vent holes. 16. A device as claimed in claim 12 wherein the patient interface is a nasal mask. 17. A device as claimed in claim 12 wherein said elbow is L-shaped. 18. A device as claimed in claim 14 wherein the funnel directs gases exhaled from the user to the plurality of outlet vent holes. 19. A device as claimed in claim 18 wherein the patient interface is a nasal mask. 20. A device as claimed in claim 18 wherein said elbow is L-shaped. 21. A device as claimed in claim 14 wherein the patient interface is a nasal mask. 22. A device as claimed in claim 14 wherein said elbow is L-shaped. 23. A device as claimed in claim 11 wherein the funnel is moulded within an interior of the elbow. 24. A device as claimed in claim 11 wherein the elbow includes a flexible portion and the at least one outlet vent is formed in the flexible portion. 25. A device as claimed in claim 11 wherein the patient interface is a mouthpiece. 26. A device as claimed in claim 11 wherein the patient interface is a nasal mask. 27. A device as claimed in claim 11 wherein the elbow has two ends, one end of the two ends being locatable within the patient interface and the other end of the two ends connectable to said supply of gases, the connecting member able to be fixed into one of two positions, a first position where the member is freely rotatable within the patient interface, and a second position where an interference between the patient interface and the elbow prevents the free rotation of the elbow within the patient interface. 28. A device as claimed in claim 27 wherein the other end is connected to a conduit that is connected, in use, to the supply of gases. 29. A device as claimed in claim 11 wherein said elbow is L-shaped. 30. A device as claimed in claim 29 wherein the interference is the meeting of surfaces on each of the patient interface and the elbow. 31.
