The prosthesis of claim 1 wherein the at least one dorsal flange further comprises a third dorsal flange extending from the bone abutment surface of the body generally between the first and second dorsal flanges, the third dorsal flange extending as an L-shaped profile and being unitarily formed with the body. 3. The prosthesis of claim 1 wherein at least one of the first and second dorsal flanges includes two securing apertures and wherein each of the two securing apertures are configured to be aligned with a different bone of the carpal complex in the implanted position. 4. The prosthesis of claim 3, further comprising bone screws that are configured to locate through each of the securing apertures into the respective different bones of the carpal complex. 5. The prosthesis of claim 3 wherein both of the first and second dorsal flanges includes two securing apertures, wherein each of the two securing apertures of the first and second dorsal flanges align with a different bone of the carpal complex in the implanted position. 6. The prosthesis of claim 1, further comprising a proximal stem that extends from the body and selectively mates with the wrist bearing component. 7. The prosthesis of claim 1, further comprising a supplemental ulnar flange portion and a supplemental radial flange portion that extend from the ulnar and radial flanges, respectively, the supplemental ulnar and radial flange portions being bendable relative to a remainder of the body to conform to an outer face of identified bones of the carpal complex. 8. The prosthesis of claim 7 wherein a thickness of the supplemental ulnar and radial flange portions is less than a thickness of the ulnar and radial flange portions. 9. The prosthesis of claim 1 wherein the at least one dorsal flange extends from the bone abutment surface a distance that spans two bones in the implanted position and wherein the bone abutment surface has a generally concave shape from a first terminal medial end to a second terminal lateral end. 10. A prosthesis for placement relative to a carpal complex of a wrist, the prosthesis comprising: a carpal implant having a body including an ulnar flange and a radial flange, the body having a bone abutment surface formed at least partially by the ulnar and radial flanges, the body further comprising at least one elongated flange unitarily formed with the body and extending substantially perpendicularly from the bone abutment surface, the at least one elongated flange extending from the bone abutment surface a distance that is configured to span at least one bone of the carpal complex in an implanted position, the at least one elongated flange having a securing aperture that is configured to selectively receive a bone screw that advances into at least one adjacent bone of the carpal complex, the body further comprising a bendable flange extending from each of the ulnar and radial flanges, wherein the bendable flanges are configured to deform in a direction generally toward each other from a first position to a second position generally against medial and lateral faces, respectively of identified bones of the carpel complex in an implanted position; anda wrist bearing component that selectively mates to the carpal implant. 11. The prosthesis of claim 10 wherein the at least one elongated flange comprises a pair of elongated dorsal flanges that both extend from an edge of the body and are configured to engage a posterior surface of corresponding bones of the carpal complex. 12. The prosthesis of claim 11, further comprising a proximal stem that extends from the body and selectively mates with the wrist bearing component. 13. The prosthesis of claim 11 wherein the pair of elongated flanges are non-piercing. 14. The prosthesis of claim 13 wherein the pair of elongated flanges are configured to exclusively engage the posterior surface of the corresponding bones of the carpal complex in the implanted position. 15. The prosthesis of claim 10 wherein a thickness of portions of the ulnar and radial flanges is less than a thickness of at least a portion of the body. 16. A prosthesis for placement relative to a carpal complex of a wrist, the prosthesis comprising: a carpal implant including a body having a concave bone abutment surface that extends between a medial end and a lateral end, a first elongated flange extending from the bone abutment surface of the body at a location corresponding to the medial end, a second elongated flange extending from the bone abutment surface of the body at a location corresponding to the lateral end, the first and second elongated flanges having substantially planar bone engaging surfaces that are configured to abut and locate exclusively against an outer posterior surface of bones of the carpal complex in an implanted position; anda wrist bearing component that selectively mates with the carpal implant; wherein the first and second elongated flanges each define at least one locating aperture that is configured to selectively receive a bone screw that advances into an identified bone of the carpal complex; and a bendable flange extending from each of the medial and lateral ends, wherein the bendable flanges are configured to deform from a first position wherein the bendable flanges have a profile that generally extends along the concave bone engagement surface to a second position wherein the bendable flanges locate generally against medial and lateral faces, respectively of identified bones of the carpal complex in the implanted position. 17. The prosthesis of claim 16 wherein the substantially planar bone engaging surfaces of the first and second elongated flanges are continuous with the concave bone abutment surface and form an L-shaped profile with the concave bone abutment surface along respective cross-sections taken through the body and wherein the first and second elongated flanges are monolithic with the body of the carpal implant.
