A system for determining a property of a paving-related material is provided. Such a system comprises a measuring device for selectively and directly measuring the property. A computer device is capable of executing a software program product and communicating with the measuring device. The computer device directs the measuring device to measure the property of the paving-related material according to a parameter determined by the software program product, and to receive data comprising the measured property from the measuring device. A communication element operably engaged between the measuring device and the computer device allows communication therebetween. The communication element is configured to allow the computer device to be spaced apart from the measuring device, thereby allowing the computer device to be prepared, to include the parameter and to manipulate the data, in spaced apart relation with respect to the measuring device. An associated method is also provided.

The apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the measuring device is further adapted to directly measure at least one of a density, a density-related parameter, and a moisture content of at least one of a soil, an aggregate, and an asphalt paving mix. 3. The apparatus according to claim 2 wherein the density related parameter is one of a bulk density, void ratio, modulus of elasticity, surface roughness, stiffness, and void content of at least one of a soil, an aggregate, and an asphalt paving mix. 4. The apparatus according to claim 1 wherein locating device is further configured to associate a time and date stamp with the data when the property is measured by the measuring device. 5. The apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the measuring device is selected from the group consisting of a nuclear density gauge, a moisture meter, a seismic pavement analyzer, a stiffness gauge, a falling weight deflectometer, a ground penetrating radar device, a radio frequency device, an electromagnetic device, a microwave device, a temperature measuring device, and combinations thereof. 6. The apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the locating device is further configured to be capable of indicating the location of the measuring device, independently of the property measurement, so as to allow the measuring device to be located and tracked. 7. The apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the locating device comprises a global positioning system (GPS) device. 8. The apparatus according to claim 1 wherein at least one of the measuring device and the locating device is adapted to receive and/or transmit a communication to and/or from at least one of a computing system and a computer device. 9. The apparatus according to claim 1 wherein at least one of the measuring device and the locating device is adapted to receive and/or transmit a communication including an email, a post to a web page, to and from at least one of a computing system and a computer device. 10. The apparatus according to claim 1 wherein at least one of the measuring device and the locating device is adapted to receive and/or transmit a communication to and from at least one of a computing system and a computer device in an encrypted data stream. 11. A method of determining a property of a paving-related material, said method comprising: placing a measuring device at the paving-related material in a designated position for a desired paving-related material property measurement;selectively measuring and determining the property of the paving-related material using the measuring device; anddetermining a location of the measuring device, using a locating device operably engaged with the measuring device, concurrently with the selective measurement and determination of the property of the paving-related material. 12. The method according to claim 11 wherein selectively measuring the property further comprises directly measuring at least one of a density, a density-related parameter, and a moisture content of at least one of a soil, an aggregate, and an asphalt paving mix with the measuring device. 13. The method according to claim 12 wherein the density related parameter is a bulk density, void ratio, modulus of elasticity, surface roughness, stiffness, and void content of at least one of a soil, an aggregate, and an asphalt paving mix. 14. The method according to claim 11 wherein selectively measuring the property further comprises selectively measuring the property of the paving-related material with a nuclear density gauge, a moisture meter, a seismic pavement analyzer, a stiffness gauge, a falling weight deflectometer, a ground penetrating radar device, a radio frequency device, an electromagnetic device, a microwave device, a temperature measuring device, or combinations thereof. 15. The method according to claim 11 further comprising associating a time and date stamp with the data concurrently with selectively measuring the property of the paving-related material. 16. The method according to claim 11 wherein concurrently determining a location of the measuring device further comprises concurrently determining a location of the measuring device when or about when the property of the paving-related material is measured thereby with a geographic information system (GIS) device operably engaged with the measuring device. 17. The method according to claim 11 wherein concurrently determining a location of the measuring device further comprises concurrently determining a location of the measuring device when or about when the property of the paving-related material is measured thereby with a global positioning system (GPS) device operably engaged with the measuring device. 18. The method according to claim 11 wherein at least one of the measuring device and the locating device is adapted to receive and/or transmit a communication including a simple email, a post to a web page, or a wireless communication to and from at least one of a computing system and a computer device. 19. The method according to claim 11 wherein at least one of the measuring device and the locating device is adapted to receive and/or transmit a communication to and from at least one of a computing system and a computer device in an encrypted data stream.
