A method allows for rapid manufacture of relatively thick adhesive coatings using a continuous process, where a single thin coating is continuously converted into a single thicker adhesive laminate. An exemplary process includes the steps of: (1) producing a web having a first surface with an adhesive layer and a second surface with a release liner; (2) slitting the web longitudinally into a first section and a second section, (3) laminating a backing film to the adhesive layer of the first section; (4) removing the release liner of the laminate of step (3) exposing the adhesive layer of the first section; and (5) laminating the second section to the laminate of step (4), wherein the adhesive layer of the laminate of step (4) is combined with the adhesive layer of the second section.

A method of continuously manufacturing a multilayer pressure-sensitive adhesive laminate comprising the steps of: a. producing a web having a first surface defined by an adhesive layer and a second surface defined by a release liner;b. slitting the web longitudinally into a first section and a second section, each section having a first surface defined by an adhesive layer and a second surface defined by a release liner;c. positioning the first section and second section so the adhesive layer of the first section faces the adhesive layer of the second section along the length of the first and second sections; andd. laminating the first section and second section together such that the adhesive layers of the first and second sections are attached; wherein the resultant laminate has a first release liner defining a first outer surface, a second release liner defining a second outer surface, and an adhesive layer positioned between the first and second release liners. 2. The method of claim 1 wherein the act of positioning the first and second sections further comprises: a. turning the first section, wherein the act of turning causes the first section to change direction and position that the adhesive layer faces to one opposite from a position prior to turning;b. turning the second section, wherein the act of turning causes the second section to change direction and position that the adhesive layer faces to one opposite from a position prior to turning; andc. turning the second section a second time, wherein the act of turning causes the second section to change direction and position that the adhesive layer faces to one opposite from a position prior to turning the second section a second time; wherein after turning, the direction of the second section aligns with the direction of the first section; and wherein after turning, the adhesive layer of the second section faces the adhesive layer of the first section. 3. The method of claim 2 wherein, a. the act of turning the first section further comprises directing the first section over a 45-degree turning roller;b. the act of turning the second section further comprises directing the second section over a 90-degree turning roller; andc. the act of turning the second section a second time further comprises directing the second section over a 45-degree turning roller. 4. The method of claim 1 wherein the act of positioning the first and second sections further comprises: a. turning the first section at least once, wherein the act of turning causes the first section to change direction and position that the adhesive layer faces to one opposite from a position prior to turning; andb. turning the second section at least once, wherein the act of turning causes the second section to change direction and position that the adhesive layer faces to one opposite from a position prior to turning; wherein the first section and second section are turned an unequal number of times such that after turning the sections is complete, the second section aligns with the direction of the first section, and the adhesive layer of the second section faces the adhesive layer of the first section. 5. The method of claim 4 wherein, a. the act of turning the first section at least once further comprises directing the first section over one or more 45-degree turning rollers; andb. the act of turning the second section at least once further comprises directing the second section over one or more 45-degree turning rollers. 6. A method of continuously manufacturing a multilayer pressure-sensitive adhesive laminate comprising the steps of: a. producing a web having a first surface defined by an adhesive layer and a second surface defined by a release liner;b. slitting the web longitudinally into a first section and a second section, each section having a first surface defined by an adhesive layer and a second surface defined by a release liner;c. laminating a backing film to the adhesive layer of the first section;d. removing the release liner of the laminate of step (c) exposing the adhesive layer of the first section;e. positioning the laminate of step (d) and the second section so the exposed adhesive layer of the laminate of step (d) faces the adhesive layer of the second section; andf. laminating the second section to the laminate of step (d), wherein the adhesive layer of the laminate of step (d) is positioned adjacent to the adhesive layer of the second section; wherein the final laminate has a first layer comprising the backing film, a second layer comprising the adhesive layers, and a third layer comprising the release liner. 7. The method of claim 6 wherein the act of positioning the laminate of step (d) and the second section further comprises: a. turning the second section, wherein the act of turning causes the second section to change direction and position that the adhesive layer faces to one opposite from a position prior to turning; andb. turning the laminate of step (d), wherein the act of turning causes the laminate of step (d) to change direction and position that the adhesive layer faces to one opposite from a position prior to turning; wherein after turning, the direction of the laminate of step (d) aligns with the direction of the second section; and wherein after turning, the adhesive layer of the laminate of step (d) faces the adhesive layer of the second section. 8. The method of claim 7 wherein, a. the act of turning the second section further comprises directing the second section over a 45-degree turning roller; andb. the act of turning the laminate of step (d) further comprises directing the laminate of step (d) over a 45-degree turning roller. 9. The method of claim 6 wherein the act of positioning the laminate of step (d) and the second section further comprises turning the laminate of step (d) and the second section over one or more turning rollers wherein the laminate of step (d) and the second section are turned an equal number of times before lamination. 10. The method of claim 9 wherein at least one of the one or more turning rollers is a 45-degree turning roller. 11. A method of continuously manufacturing a multilayer pressure-sensitive adhesive laminate comprising the steps of: a. producing a web having a first surface defined by an adhesive layer and a second surface defined by a release liner;b. slitting the web longitudinally into a plurality of sections, each of the plurality of sections having a first surface defined by an adhesive layer and a second surface defined by a release liner;c. laminating a backing film to the adhesive layer of a first section of the plurality of sections;d. removing the release liner of the laminate of step (c) exposing the adhesive layer associated with the first section;e. positioning the laminate of step (d) and a next section of the plurality of sections so the exposed adhesive layer of the laminate of step (d) faces the adhesive layer of the next section;f. laminating the next section to the laminate of step (d), wherein the adhesive layer of the laminate of step (d) is positioned adjacent to the adhesive layer of the next section;g. removing the release liner of the laminate of step (f) exposing the adhesive layer associated with the next section; andh. repeating steps (e) through (g) to achieve a plurality of laminated layers; wherein step (g) is omitted with the final laminated section of the plurality of sections, such that the final laminate has a first layer comprising the backing film, a second layer comprising the adhesive layers, and a third layer comprising the release liner. 12. The method of claim 11 wherein step (e) further comprises turning the next section at least twice, wherein each step of turning causes the next section to change direction and position that the adhesive layer faces to one opposite from a position prior to turning, wherein after the final turning, the direction of the next section aligns with the direction of the laminate of step (d), and wherein after the final turning, the adhesive layer of the next section faces the adhesive layer of the laminate of step (d). 13. The method of claim 12 wherein the step of turning the next section at least twice further comprises directing the second section over a 45-degree turning roller. 14. The method of claim 11 wherein the total number of laminated adhesive layers is at least two.
