1. A card shuffling and verification apparatus, comprising: a top surface;a single card receiving area for receiving an initial set of playing cards;a randomizing system for randomizing an order of an initial set of playing cards;a collection surface within a card collection area for receiving randomized playing cards one at a time into the card collection area, the collection surface receiving cards so that all cards are received below the top surface of the card shuffling and verification apparatus;an image capture device that reads the rank and suit of each card, the image capture device illuminating a face of the card displaying the rank and symbol of a suit selected from the group consisting of a spade, heart, diamond or club on the face of the card with electromagnetic radiation selected from the group consisting of ultraviolet radiation, near infrared radiation, infrared radiation, far infrared radiation, and wavelengths comprising a fluence consisting of at least 40% wavelengths between 490 nm and 520 nm; andan elevator for raising the collection surface so that at least some randomized cards are elevated at least to the top surface of the card shuffling and verification apparatus. 2. A method of identifying cards, comprising: scanning at least a portion of a face of a playing card with a CMOS sensor;scanning information from visible card symbols of suit and rank on the face of the playing card;a processor converting signals from the visible symbols of suit and rank into at least one acquired vector;the processor comparing the at least one acquired vector with a reference vector; andthe processor identifying rank and suit from a correlation of the at least one acquired vector and reference vectors. 3. The method of claim 2, further comprising the processor using a correlation algorithm to determine rank and suit. 4. The method of claim 2, further comprising the processor using a step of performing vector shifting while determining rank and suit. 5. The method of claim 2, further comprising the processor performing a step of executing an error correction function. 6. The method of claim 2, further comprising the processor performing a step of transmitting determined rank and suit information to a data storage device. 7. The method of claim 2, further comprising a step in which the processor distinguishes rank and suit data from the card inspection station. 8. The method of claim 2, wherein rank and suit data is distinguished by the processor by a step of image pattern recognition. 9. A playing card integrity checking machine that includes: a processor;a card in-feed tray for receiving one or more decks of cards;a card inspection station located adjacent the in-feed tray;a card transport mechanism for removing individual cards from the in-feed tray and transporting the cards individually past the card inspection station to an exit or to an accumulator bin; andthe card inspection station including an electromagnetic radiation source with electromagnetic radiation selected from the group consisting of ultraviolet radiation, near infrared radiation, infrared radiation, far infrared radiation, and wavelengths comprising a fluence consisting of at least 40% wavelengths selected from the group consisting of1) UV, violet, indigo, blue-green, green, and infrared;2) UV, blue-green, green and infrared;3) UV, blue green and green;4) UV and green; and5) green.
