A method of controlling electromagnetic lancet driver, comprising: a) measuring a first position of a lancet of the electromagnetic lancet driver;b) applying force to the lancet to induce motion in the lancet;c) measuring a second position of the lancet;d) determining a velocity of the lancet from change of position versus a change in time with regard to the first and second position of the lancet; ande) adjusting the force on the lancet to achieve a velocity of the lancet to accelerate, coast, or decelerate until the lancet reaches and settles at the maximum displacement position.
