A method for controlling vibration or sound in a structure, comprising positioning or forming a vibration or acoustic absorber within or on said structure,wherein said vibration or acoustic absorber comprises an elastic layer formed from loose acoustic or insulation material having height, width, and depth dimensions, and a plurality of discrete masses distributed within said elastic layer,wherein said step of positioning or forming is performed by blowing said loose acoustic or thermal insulation material together with said plurality of discrete masses into or on said structure to form said vibration or acoustic absorber comprised of said elastic layer with said plurality of discrete masses distributed within said elastic layer,wherein individual masses of said plurality of masses are deposited at different levels within said vibration or acoustic absorber and are spaced away from each other throughout said height, width and depth dimensions, so as to alter a stiffness or spring rate of said loose acoustic or thermal insulation material which supports each of said individual masses thereby enabling attenuation of vibration or accoustic waves at multiple resonance frequencies. 2. The method of claim 1 wherein said height, width and depth dimensions are defined by sheet rock and studs. 3. The method of claim 1 wherein said plurality of masses includes masses of different materials. 4. The method of claim 1 wherein said individual masses are selected from the group consisting of metals, ceramics, plastics, and gels. 5. The method of claim 1 wherein said loose acoustic or thermal insulation material is selected from the group consisting of foam, acoustic fiberglass, fiberglass batting, distributed spring material, urethane, and rubber. 6. The method of claim 1 wherein said plurality of masses includes masses of different sizes. 7. The method of claim 1 wherein said plurality of masses includes masses of different shapes. 8. The method of claim 1 wherein said positioning or forming step is performed within ceilings, walls or floors of a building. 9. The method of claim 1 wherein said positioning or forming is performed within a portion of a vehicle selected from the group consisting of cars, boats, and planes. 10. The method of claim 1 wherein said positioning or forming is performed within a housing portion of machinery or an equipment part. 11. The method of claim 1 wherein said loose acoustic or thermal insulation matrix material is a fibrous material. 12. The method of claim 11 wherein said individual masses have sticky or rough surfaces. 13. The method of claims 1 wherein said individual masses have sticky or rough surfaces.
