Electronics determine the amount of glucose present in a sample of body fluid, when the test strip is positioned in the receptacle and the body fluid is placed on a test strip, and communicate the glucose amount to the hand-held computer via the connector portion.

A PDA-based system for managing treatment of a particular health condition afflicting a patient, the system comprising: a PDA comprising a nonvolatile memory, a display, an input device, a communication port, and a processor;wherein the memory stores a health management application program configured to manage treatment of the particular health condition, the memory also configured to receive, store, and output data entered by the patient;wherein the display is mounted on the PDA and the display is configured to display data entered via the input device;wherein the communication port is configured to transmit data from the PDA; andwherein the processor is connected to the display, the memory, the input device, and the communication port, and wherein the processor is configured to access the memory to upload into the processor and run the health management application program which programs the processor to: control the display to issue a prompt for entry of patient health condition data related to the particular health condition;receive patient health condition data related to the particular health condition from the input device, the patient health condition data including patient physiological data, subjective patient health condition data and medication delivery data;store the received patient health condition data in the memory of the PDA;compile the stored patient health condition data into an accumulated data summary; andtransmit the accumulated data summary from the PDA to a second processing unit via the communication port. 2. The system of claim 1, wherein the particular health condition afflicting a patient is diabetes. 3. The system of claim 1, wherein the health management application program further programs the processor to issue a prompt as one of a visual prompt, auditory prompt, vibratory prompt and any combination thereof. 4. The system of claim 1, wherein the PDA further comprises a wired port and wherein the health management application program further programs the processor to synchronize the data stored in the PDA with a second processing unit via a wired connection. 5. The system of claim 1, wherein the PDA further comprises an IR port and wherein the health management application program further programs the processor to synchronize the data stored in the PDA with a second processing unit via an IR connection. 6. The system of claim 1, wherein the input device comprises a touch screen. 7. The system of claim 1, wherein the health management application program further programs the processor to present the data summary on the display of the PDA. 8. The system of claim 1, wherein the processor is further programmed to present a visual prompt on the display for entry of particular subjective patient symptom data related to the particular health condition. 9. The system of claim 1, wherein the health management application program further programs the processor to present a pre-defined drop-down list on the display having a list of options from which a patient can select an option in response to a prompt for entry of patient health condition data related data. 10. The system of claim 9, wherein the drop-down list includes a list of options related to the delivery of medication. 11. The system of claim 9, wherein the drop-down list includes a list of options related to daily activities affecting the health condition afflicting the patient. 12. The system of claim 9, wherein the drop-down list includes a list of options related to subjective patient symptoms. 13. The system of claim 1, wherein the health management application program further programs the processor to present a visual prompt on the display for entry of planned activity data related to the particular health condition, wherein planned activity data comprises scheduling of medication delivery to the patient. 14. The system of claim 1, wherein the health management application program further programs the processor is further programmed to issue an alert that a medication delivery to a patient is due. 15. The system of claim 1, wherein the health management application program further programs the processor is further programmed to present on the display a recommended treatment to the patient. 16. The system of claim 1, wherein the PDA is configured to receive patient health condition data only via manual entry of the input device. 17. The system of claim 1, wherein the PDA is configured to include a single communication port limited to a wired connection. 18. The system of claim 1, wherein the health management application program further programs the processor to present a visual prompt on the display for entry of diet data. 19. The system of claim 1, wherein the health management application program further programs the processor to present a prompt on the display for entry of data relating to stress affecting a patient. 20. The system of claim 1, wherein the health management application program further programs the processor to present a prompt on the display for entry of data relating to depression affecting a patient. 21. A PDA-based system for managing treatment of a particular health condition afflicting a patient, the system comprising: a PDA comprising a nonvolatile memory, a display, a communication port, and a processor;wherein the memory stores a health management application program configured to manage treatment of the particular health condition, the memory also configured to receive, store, and output data entered by the patient;wherein the display is mounted on the PDA and the display comprises a touch screen configured to both output data visually and input data;wherein the communication port is configured to transmit data from the PDA; andwherein the processor is connected to the display, the memory, and the communication port, and wherein the processor is configured to access the memory to upload into the processor and run the health management application program which the processor is programmed to: control the display to present a visual prompt for entry of patient health condition data related to the particular health condition;receive patient health condition data related to the particular health condition from the touch screen, the patient health condition data including patient physiological data, subjective patient health condition data and medication delivery data;store the received patient health condition data in the memory of the PDA;compile the stored patient health condition data into an accumulated data summary;present a graphical representation of the accumulated data summary on the display of the PDA; andtransmit the stored patient health condition data from the PDA to a second processing unit via the communication port. 22. The system of claim 21, wherein the particular health condition afflicting a patient is diabetes. 23. The system of claim 21, wherein the health management application program further programs the processor to issue a prompt as one of a visual prompt, auditory prompt, vibratory prompt and any combination thereof. 24. The system of claim 21, wherein the health management application program further programs the processor to synchronize the data stored in the PDA with a second processing unit via a wired connection. 25.
