The composition of claim 1, wherein the fused silica abrasive contains less than about 10% total water. 4. The composition of claim 1, wherein the fused silica abrasive contains less than about 5% total water. 5. The composition of claim 1, wherein the fused silica abrasive is substantially non-hydrated. 6. The composition of claim 1, wherein the fused silica abrasive has a silanol density of less than about 3000 intensity/g. 7. The composition of claim 1, wherein the fused silica abrasive has a BET surface area of less than about 30 m2/g. 8. The composition of claim 1, wherein the fused silica abrasive has a BET surface area of less than about 9 m2/g. 9. The composition of claim 1, wherein the fused silica abrasive has a bulk density of at least about 0.45 g/ml. 10. The composition of claim 1, wherein the fused silica abrasive has a Mohs hardness greater than 6. 11. The composition of claim 1, wherein the majority of the fused silica particles do not form aggregated clusters. 12. The composition of claim 1, wherein the fused silica abrasive is not surface-treated. 13. The composition of claim 1, wherein the fused silica abrasive has less than about 70 g/100 g water absorption. 14. The composition of claim 1, wherein the fused silica abrasive has less than about 70 ml/100 g oil absorption. 15. The composition of claim 1, wherein the fused silica abrasive comprises from about 1% to about 70% by weight of the composition. 16. The composition of claim 1, further comprising at least one precipitated silica abrasive. 17. The composition of claim 16, wherein the fused silica abrasive comprises from about 1% to about 99% by weight of all abrasives. 18. The composition of claim 16, wherein the fused silica abrasive comprises about 20% by weight of all abrasives. 19. The composition of claim 1, further comprising one or more from the group consisting of an anticalculus agent, an anticaries agent, an antibacterial agent, an antiplaque agent, an antigingivitis agent, an antierosion agent, an anti-malodor agent, an anti-inflammatory agent, an antisensitivity agent, or mixtures thereof. 20. An oral care composition comprising: (a) a silica abrasive comprising greater than 97% of fused silica having a particle size wherein D90 is less than about 50 microns and wherein at least 25% of the fused silica particles are spherical; and(b) an orally-acceptable carrier selected from fluoride ion sources, antibacterial agents, anticalculus agents, buffers, other abrasive materials, peroxide sources, alkali metal bicarbonate salts, thickening materials, humectants, water, surfactants, titanium dioxide, flavor system, sweetening agents, cooling agents, xylitol, coloring agents, and mixtures thereof. 21. An oral care composition comprising: (a) a silica abrasive having a particle size wherein D90 is less than about 50 microns that has a BET surface area of less than about 9 m2/g; and(b) an orally-acceptable carrier selected from fluoride ion sources, antibacterial agents, anticalculus agents, buffers, other abrasive materials, peroxide sources, alkali metal bicarbonate salts, thickening materials, humectants, water, surfactants, titanium dioxide, flavor system, sweetening agents, cooling agents, xylitol, coloring agents, and mixtures thereof. 22. An oral care composition comprising: (a) a silica abrasive having a particle size wherein D90 is less than about 50 microns with less than about 70 g/100 g water absorption and less than about 70 ml/100 g oil absorption; and(b) an orally-acceptable carrier selected from fluoride ion sources, antibacterial agents, anticalculus agents, buffers, other abrasive materials, peroxide sources, alkali metal bicarbonate salts, thickening materials, humectants, water, surfactants, titanium dioxide, flavor system, sweetening agents, cooling agents, xylitol, coloring agents, and mixtures thereof. 23. An oral care composition comprising: (a) a silica abrasive having a particle size wherein D90 is less than about 50 microns, wherein the silica abrasive has a silanol density of less than about 3000 intensity/g; and(b) an orally-acceptable carrier selected from fluoride ion sources, antibacterial agents, anticalculus agents, buffers, other abrasive materials, peroxide sources, alkali metal bicarbonate salts, thickening materials, humectants, water, surfactants, titanium dioxide, flavor system, sweetening agents, cooling agents, xylitol, coloring agents, and mixtures thereof. 24. A method of cleaning and polishing dental enamel comprising applying the oral care composition of claim 1 to the teeth of a user.
