A humidifier for adding humidity to an air stream of an HVAC system includes a housing configured to be mounted to a surface of an HVAC duct. A back side of the housing may be positioned adjacent to an opening in the surface of the HVAC duct, and the housing may be configured to hold a humidifier pad in an operating position. The housing may define a first air flow path from a first side of the humidifier pad to the opening in the surface of the HVAC duct when the housing is mounted to the surface of the HVAC duct. The housing may further define a second air flow path from a second side of the humidifier pad to a bypass aperture. At least part of the second air flow path may be defined by a bypass duct member. The bypass duct member may be field-reconfigurable between at least a first position resulting in the bypass aperture being located at a first location, and a second position resulting in the bypass aperture being located at a second location. In some cases, the first and second locations are on the left and right sides, respectively, of the humidifier housing.

1. A humidifier assembly for adding humidity to an air stream of an HVAC system having an HVAC duct, the humidifier assembly comprising: a housing configured to be mounted to a surface of an HVAC duct of an HVAC system, with a back side of the housing positioned adjacent to an opening in the surface of the HVAC duct, the housing further configured to hold a humidifier pad in an operating position;the housing defining a first air flow path from a first side of the humidifier pad to the opening in the surface of the HVAC duct when the housing is mounted to the surface of the HVAC duct;the housing further defining a second air flow path from a second side of the humidifier pad to a bypass aperture, at least part of the second air flow path defined by a bypass duct member; andwherein the bypass duct member is field-reconfigurable between at least a first position resulting in the bypass aperture being located at a first location, and a second position resulting in the bypass aperture being located at a second location. 2. The humidifier assembly of claim 1, wherein in the first position, the bypass aperture faces toward a left side of the housing. 3. The humidifier assembly of claim 2, wherein in the second position, the bypass aperture faces toward a right side of the housing. 4. The humidifier assembly of claim 1, wherein the housing defines a top-front aperture and a bottom-front aperture, and the housing further comprises a top-front cover member for covering the top-front aperture and a bottom-front cover member for covering the bottom-front aperture. 5. The humidifier assembly of claim 1, wherein the bypass duct member includes at least one handle. 6. The humidifier assembly of claim 1, wherein the housing includes at least one attachment guide that is structured to removably maintain the bypass duct member in the first position and second position. 7. The humidifier assembly of claim 6, wherein the bypass duct member and/or the at least one attachment guide of the housing are structured with a retention mechanism. 8. The humidifier assembly of claim 7, wherein the retention mechanism may be released by a user. 9. The humidifier assembly of claim 1, wherein the bypass duct member includes a first handle and a second handle, and the housing includes a corresponding first attachment guide and a corresponding second attachment guide. 10. The humidifier assembly of claim 9, wherein in the first position, the first handle cooperates with the first attachment guide and the second handle cooperates with the second attachment guide, and further wherein, in the second position, the first handle cooperates with the second attachment guide and the second handle cooperates with the first attachment guide. 11. A method of configuring a bypass humidifier, the bypass humidifier having a housing that is configured to be mounted to a surface of an HVAC duct, the surface having an opening, and the housing further configured to include a bypass duct member that can be selectively removed and attached to the housing in at least two positions, where each of the at least two positions result in a bypass aperture of the bypass duct member being located in a different location, the method comprising: obtaining the housing and the bypass duct member;while in the field, attaching the bypass duct member into one of the at least two positions. 12. The method of claim 11 comprising removing the bypass duct member from a current one of the at least two positions, and then attaching the bypass duct member into another one of the at least two positions. 13. The method of claim 12, wherein the step of removing the bypass duct member includes manipulating at least one handle of the bypass duct member. 14. The method of claim 12, further comprising the step of removing a top-front cover member and a bottom-front cover member from the housing before removing the bypass duct member from the current one of the at least two positions. 15. The method of claim 14, further comprising the steps of replacing the top-front cover member and the bottom-front cover member after attaching the bypass duct member into the other one of the at least two positions. 16. A humidifier for adding humidity to an air stream of an HVAC system having an HVAC duct, the humidifier comprising: a housing configured to hold a humidifier pad in an operating position;the housing defining a first air flow path from a first side of the humidifier pad to an opening in a back side of the housing;the housing defining a second air flow path from a second side of the humidifier pad to a bypass aperture, at least part of the second air flow path defined by a bypass duct member; andwherein the bypass duct member is field-reconfigurable between at least a first position resulting in the bypass aperture facing generally toward a left side of the housing, and a second position resulting in the bypass aperture facing generally toward a right side of the housing. 17. The humidifier assembly of claim 16 wherein the bypass duct member is accessible from a front side of the housing. 18. The humidifier assembly of claim 17 wherein the bypass duct member is held in place by one or more detachable retaining elements. 19. The humidifier assembly of claim 18 wherein the one or more detachable retaining elements include one or more clips. 20. The humidifier assembly of claim 16 wherein the bypass duct member includes one or more handles.
