The fuel tank may include a housing enclosing a lattice structure including at least two intersecting wall members, each wall member including a plurality of panels arranged in a repeating pattern, the plurality of panels having planar sides including a compliance panel having a first and second section configured to fold about a crease line. In this way, multi-directional compliance of the fuel tank can be achieved, while increasing structural integrity.

The distensible fuel tank of claim 1, wherein the plurality of panels are arranged in a repeating pattern. 3. The distensible fuel tank of claim 1, wherein each wall member includes an intersection panel having at least a portion of the panel coupled to the housing. 4. The distensible fuel tank of claim 3, wherein each wall member includes a structural panel positioned in a common plane with the intersection panel. 5. The distensible fuel tank of claim 3, wherein the heights of the intersection panels are greater than the heights of the structural or compliance panels. 6. The distensible fuel tank of claim 1, further comprising an internal sub-assembly coupled to the lattice structure. 7. The distensible fuel tank of claim 1, wherein the wall members are conjoined at their intersections. 8. The distensible fuel tank of claim 1, wherein the housing is constructed out of a polymeric material. 9. The distensible fuel tank of claim 1, wherein the vehicle is a hybrid electric vehicle including an internal combustion engine and an electric motor configured to provide motive power to the vehicle, wherein the internal combustion engine is fluidly coupled to the fuel tank. 10. The distensible fuel tank of claim 1, wherein the first and second sections of the compliance panel have planar sides. 11. The distensible fuel tank of claim 1, wherein the sides of the panels are planar. 12. The distensible fuel tank of claim 1, wherein the wall members intersect at a substantially perpendicular angle. 13. A distensible fuel tank for a vehicle comprising: a housing enclosing a lattice structure substantially spanning a portion of an interior defined by the housing, the lattice structure comprising;a plurality of intersecting and conjoined wall members, each wall member including a plurality of panels arranged in a repeating pattern having a varying height, the panels including a compliance panel having a first section and a second section configured to fold about a crease line and an intersection panel coupled to the housing and arranged in a common plane with a structural panel. 14. The distensible fuel tank of claim 13, wherein the vehicle includes an electric motor configured to provide motive power. 15. The distensible fuel tank of claim 13, wherein the wall members intersect at a substantially perpendicular angle. 16. The distensible fuel tank of claim 13, wherein the panels have planar sides. 17. A lattice structure for providing controlled support to a distensible fuel tank comprising: at least two intersecting wall members, each wall member including a plurality of panels arranged in a repeating pattern having varying heights, the plurality of panels having planar sides including a compliance panel having a first and second section configured to fold about a crease line, an intersection panel, and a structural panel, the intersection panel and the structural panel in each wall member being co-planar. 18. The lattice structure of claim 17, wherein the wall members intersect at a substantially perpendicular angle. 19. The lattice structure of claim 17, wherein a portion of each intersection panel is coupled to a housing of the distensible fuel tank. 20. The lattice structure of claim 17, wherein the heights of the intersection panels are greater than the heights of the structural or compliance panels.
