The invention relates to an apparatus, system and method for managing medication. In particular, the invention relates to adaptable pill organizer. The adaptable pill organizer comprises of at least one or more rectangular units for containing pills. Individual units and/or rows of seven units, wherein one unit corresponds to the days of the week, attach and detach from one another in order to create a custom pill organizer. The adaptable pill organizer further employs electronic capabilities which: allow user to input, store and display information on the pill organizer; provide lighting means for the device; provide various automatic and/or commanded physical responses to usage of the device such as the lighting of a unit, or the opening and closing of a unit; provide programmed alarms; communicate data messages and usage information with third party devices; and store and provide access to user medication and medication schedule information. The invention further relates to a system and method for managing a self medication regime which works in conjunction with an electronic adaptable pill organizer, a third party device, or a combination thereof, in order to provide the aforementioned capabilities within the electronic pill organizer. The system further allows a third party device to receive, and transmit messages to and from an electronic pill organizer in real. The system provides a means and a method for monitoring the usage of an electronic pill organizer by a third party.

A pill organizer, comprising: at least two units that house pills, each of the units defined by a housing comprising top, a bottom and four sidewalls, wherein each of the units further comprise an interior receptacle for containing the pills, the interior receptacle having a semi-ellipsoid shape, and wherein each of the units can couple to one another unit via at least one sidewall to form a row of units; wherein the at least two units further comprise: a row starter unit comprising four sidewalls wherein at least one of the four sidewalls comprises a coupling mechanism, the row starter unit further comprising an extended structure provided on a sidewall that does not comprise a coupling mechanism, the extended structure serves as a platform for a label;a corner unit comprising four sidewalls wherein at least one of the four sidewalls comprises a coupling mechanism, the corner unit further comprising respective extended structures provided on first and second adjacent sidewalls that do not comprise coupling mechanisms, the respective extended structures serve as platforms for labels; anda standard unit comprising four sidewalls, wherein each sidewall comprises a coupling mechanism; andwherein the row starter unit, the corner unit and the standard unit can couple to one another unit via at least one sidewall comprising a coupling mechanism to form a row of units and a column of units. 2. The pill organizer of claim 1, wherein the at least two units comprise a first unit that couples to second and third units via opposite sidewalls of the first unit to form the row. 3. The pill organizer of claim 1, further comprising one or more fixed rows of units, a fixed row comprising at least three units permanently attached via opposite sidewalls of one of the units to form the fixed row. 4. The pill organizer of claim 1, wherein the at least two units comprise a first unit that couples to a second and third unit via adjacent walls of the first unit to form the row of units and to form a column of units. 5. The pill organizer of claim 1, wherein the at least two units comprise a first unit that can be stacked on a second unit by coupling a base of the second unit to a top of the first unit. 6. The pill organizer of claim 1, the a label corresponds to either a day of the week or time of day. 7. The pill organizer of claim 1, wherein the units couple to each other via at least one of: a ball and socket, a peg and a fitted slot, a rail and track, Velcro, or adhesive. 8. The pill organizer of claim 1, wherein a unit further comprises a lid that opens and closes, or is removable. 9. The pill organizer of claim 1 wherein a unit comprises metal, plastic, ceramic, or a combination thereof. 10. The pill organizer of claim 1, wherein the units couple to each other via magnets. 11. The pill organizer of claim 1, wherein the housing comprises a first material and the interior receptacle comprises a second material, wherein the first material is different than the second material. 12. The pill organizer of claim 1, wherein each of the at least two units have a square shape. 13. The pill organizer of claim 1, wherein each of the at least two unit have a volume of about 15 mm3 to 270 mm3. 14. The pill organizer of claim 1, further comprising: a filler unit that cannot house pills, the filler unit defined by a housing comprising a top, a bottom and four sidewalls, wherein each of the at least two units and the filler unit can couple to one another unit via at least one sidewall to form a row of units.
