A collapsible intermodal transport platform and methods for its operation are disclosed. The invention comprises structural ribbings that rotate about an axle disposed beneath the loading surface of the platform. The ribbings are positioned along the platform so as to provide lifting and stacking fitments at the standard overhead crane lifting points when in a lift configuration. The ribbings may be rotated inboard down to the loading surface, thereby presenting stacking blocks at the crane lifting points for stacking several platforms together. Alternatively, the ribbings may be rotated outboard to accommodate full size loading of cargo. The ribbings are rotated under electric or hydraulic power, according to the various embodiments disclosed. Other features and aspects disclosed lend to the invention's low weight and high carrying capacity, as well as its unique load securing features.

1. A transport platform comprising: a frame having a plurality of deck beams, each deck beam having a slightly convex upper surface;a deck bed having an upper loading surface with an arcuate profile and a slightly concave lower surface joined to the slightly convex upper surface of at least two of the plurality of deck beams; anda plurality of first braces, each first brace having a first end attached to the frame and a second end extending from and rotatable about the first end, each first brace rotatable between a stowed position at which the second end is proximate to the upper loading surface, and a lift position at which the second end is elevated from the upper loading surface;wherein the arcuate profile of the upper loading surface results in a lower profile of the transport platform when each first brace is in the stowed position. 2. The transport platform of claim 1, wherein the frame further comprises an axle extending between the plurality of deck beams in a direction parallel to the longitudinal centerline of the transport platform. 3. The transport platform of claim 2, wherein the axle is located more than twenty feet from the longitudinal centerline of the transport platform. 4. The transport platform of claim 2, wherein the axle has a first end that extends beyond each of the plurality of deck beams in a first direction to attach to the first end of one of the plurality of first braces, and a second end that extends beyond each of the plurality of deck beams in a second direction opposite the first direction to attach to the first end of another of the plurality of first braces. 5. The transport platform of claim 4, wherein rotation of the axle causes the second end of each first brace attached to the axle to rotate from the stowed position to the lift position. 6. The transport platform of claim 5, further comprising a motor disposed beneath the deck bed operably connected to the axle for rotating the axle. 7. The transport platform of claim 1, further comprising a lifting fitment supported by the second end of each first brace. 8. The transport platform of claim 7, wherein each lifting fitment is located approximately twenty feet from the longitudinal centerline of the transport platform when the plurality of first braces are in the lift position. 9. The transport platform of claim 1, further comprising a lifting fitment supported by a stacking block extending from each first brace. 10. The transport platform of claim 9, wherein each lifting fitment is located approximately twenty feet from the longitudinal centerline of the transport platform when the plurality of first braces are in the stowed position. 11. The transport platform of claim 1, wherein each first brace is also rotatable to an extended load position at which the second end of the first brace is further from the longitudinal centerline of the transport platform than is the location at which the first brace is connected to the frame. 12. The transport platform of claim 1, further comprising a plurality of second braces, each second brace having a proximal end attached to the second end of one of the plurality of first braces, and a distal end extending from the proximal end. 13. The transport platform of claim 12, wherein the distal end of each second brace comprises a wheel. 14. The transport platform of claim 13, further comprising a rail along which the wheel travels as the first brace rotates from the lift position to the stowed position. 15. The transport platform of claim 13, further comprising a locking mechanism for securing the wheel when the first brace is in the lift position. 16. The transport platform of claim 15, wherein the locking mechanism secures the first brace when the first brace is in the stowed position. 17. A transport platform comprising: a deck bed having two ends and two sides; andfirst and second structural ribbings, each structural ribbing comprising: an axle disposed beneath the deck bed, the axle having a first end extending beyond the first side of the deck bed, and a second end extending beyond the second side of the deck bed;a near side outboard brace having a proximal end connected to the first end of the axle and having a distal end extending therefrom;a far side outboard brace having a proximal end connected to the second end of the axle and having a distal end extending therefrom; anda connector beam connecting the distal end of the near side outboard brace to the distal end of the far side outboard brace;wherein rotation of the axle of the first structural ribbing causes the first structural ribbing to rotate between a stowed position at which the first structural ribbing is substantially flat with the deck bed, and a lift position at which the distal ends of both the far side outboard brace of the first structural ribbing and the near side outboard brace of the first structural ribbing are elevated from the deck bed. 18. The transport platform of claim 17, wherein the axle of the first structural ribbing is located inboard of the two ends of the deck bed. 19. The transport platform of claim 18, wherein the axle of the first structural ribbing is located more than twenty feet from the longitudinal centerline of the deck bed. 20. The transport platform of claim 17, wherein the first structural ribbing is also rotatable to an extended load position at which the connector beam of the first structural ribbing is further outboard than the axle of the first structural ribbing. 21. The transport platform of claim 17, further comprising a motor connected to the axle of the first structural ribbing for use in rotating said axle. 22. The transport platform of claim 21, further comprising an electrical control unit operably connected to the transport platform for remotely operating the motor by way of further connection to one of a truck battery or a forklift battery. 23. The transport platform of claim 17, wherein the deck bed has a slightly convex upper loading surface. 24. The transport platform of claim 17, wherein the connector beam of the first structural ribbing further comprises first lifting fitments, and wherein the first lifting fitments are positioned approximately twenty feet from the longitudinal centerline of the transport platform when the first structural ribbing is in the lift position. 25. The transport platform of claim 24, wherein the near side outboard brace and the far side outboard brace of the first structural ribbing further comprise a second lifting fitment, and wherein each second lifting fitment is positioned approximately twenty feet from the longitudinal centerline of the transport platform when the first structural ribbing is in the stowed position. 26.
