A spacer element for use in an orthopedic or prosthetic device includes an apertured fabric layer having first and second fabric layers. A discrete and continuous web-like frictional layer is laminated onto the first fabric layer and has greater frictional properties than the fabric layer. The frictional layer has a plurality of apertures arranged in a pattern in direct correspondence to a pattern of the first surface layer apertures. A compressible material layer has opposed first and second surfaces, wherein the first surface is secured to the second surface layer. The compressible material layer has a first compression molded region with reduced thickness and increased density relative to a second region of the compressible material having a predetermined thickness.

1. A spacer element for use in an orthopedic or prosthetic device, the spacer element having first and second outer surfaces defined on opposed first and second sides, respectively, of the spacer element, the spacer element comprising: a fabric layer defining first and second fabric layers;a discrete and continuous web-like frictional layer defined as a sheet of silicone elastomer laminated onto the first fabric layer, the frictional layer having a plurality of apertures arranged in a pattern; anda compressible material layer having opposed first and second surfaces, the compressible material layer first surface secured to the second fabric layer, the compressible material layer having a first compression molded region with a tapering reduced thickness and increased density relative to a second region of the compressible material layer having a predetermined thickness;wherein the first compression molded region is proximate to and inwardly from a peripheral edge portion of the spacer element. 2. The spacer element according to claim 1, further comprising a second layer located along the second outer surface of the spacer element, the second layer being continuously flat and generally devoid of any indentations or protrusions. 3. The spacer element according to claim 2, wherein the second layer is hook-receivable. 4. The spacer element according to claim 2, wherein the first compression molded region is located short of a peripheral edge portion of the spacer element, the fabric layer, the frictional layer and the second layer extending past the first compression molded region and forming part of the peripheral edge portion with the compressible material layer terminating short of the peripheral edge portion. 5. The spacer element according to claim 1, wherein first compression molded area retains a compression molded thickness and density. 6. The spacer element according to claim 1, wherein the first outer surface is continuously flat, the first compression molded region located along the second outer surface. 7. The spacer element according to claim 1, wherein the compressible material layer has a plurality of different thicknesses, such that a first surface of the compressible material layer is substantially flat and the second surface of the compressible material layer varies in height. 8. The spacer element according to claim 1, wherein the first compression molded region is located short of a peripheral edge portion of the spacer element, the fabric layer and the frictional layer extending past the first compression molded region and forming part of the peripheral edge portion, the compressible material layer terminating short of the peripheral edge portion. 9. The spacer element according to claim 1, wherein the compressible material layer is a foam. 10. A spacer element for use in an orthopedic or prosthetic device, the spacer element having first and second outer surfaces defined on opposed first and second sides, respectively, of the spacer element, the spacer element defining a peripheral edge portion, the spacer element comprising: a fabric layer defining first and second fabric layers;a discrete and continuous web-like frictional layer defined as a sheet of polymeric material laminated onto the first fabric layer, the frictional layer having a plurality of apertures arranged in a pattern; anda compressible foam layer having opposed first and second surfaces, the compressible material layer first surface secured to the second fabric layer, the compressible material layer having a first compression molded region with a tapering reduced thickness and increased density relative to a second region of the compressible material layer having a predetermined thickness, the compressible material layer terminating short of the peripheral edge portion of the spacer element. 11. The spacer element according to claim 10, further comprising a second layer located along the second outer surface of the spacer element, the second layer being continuously flat and generally devoid of any indentations or protrusions. 12. The spacer element according to claim 11, wherein the second layer is hook-receivable. 13. The spacer element according to claim 11, wherein the first compression molded region is located short of a peripheral edge portion of the spacer element, the fabric layer, the frictional layer and the second layer extending past the first compression molded region and forming part of the peripheral edge portion. 14. The spacer element according to claim 10, wherein first compression molded area retains a compression molded thickness and density. 15. The spacer element according to claim 10, wherein the first outer surface is continuously flat, the first compression molded region located along the second outer surface. 16. The spacer element according to claim 10, wherein the compressible material layer has a plurality of different thicknesses, such that a first surface of the compressible material layer is substantially flat and the second surface of the compressible material layer varies in height. 17. The spacer element according to claim 10, wherein the first compression molded region is proximate to and inwardly from a peripheral edge portion of the spacer element. 18. The spacer element according to claim 10, wherein the first compression molded region is located short of a peripheral edge portion of the spacer element, the fabric layer and the frictional layer extending past the first compression molded region and forming part of the peripheral edge portion. 19. A spacer element for use in an orthopedic or prosthetic device, the spacer element having first and second outer surfaces defined on opposed first and second sides, respectively, of the spacer element, the spacer element comprising: a fabric layer defining first and second fabric layers;a discrete and continuous web-like frictional layer defined as a sheet of polymeric material laminated onto the first fabric layer, the frictional layer having a plurality of apertures arranged in a pattern; anda compressible foam layer having opposed first and second surfaces, the compressible material layer first surface secured to the second fabric layer, the compressible material layer having a first compression molded region with a tapering reduced thickness and increased density relative to a second region of the compressible material layer having a predetermined thickness;wherein the first compression molded region is located short of a peripheral edge portion of the spacer element, the fabric layer and the frictional layer extending past the first compression molded region and forming part of the peripheral edge portion, the foam layer terminating short of the peripheral edge portion.
