A self-tamping coffee holder tamps loose ground coffee obtaining richer flavor. The coffee holder includes a holder base and a holder cap. Coffee is loosely deposited in the coffee holder and the holder cap is attached to the holder base. An internal filter chamber holds the coffee and allows tamping of the coffee into a compacted state. The filter chamber may be formed by a fixed filter or by a removeable filter constructed of filter paper, nylon mesh, metal mesh, or any material capable of holding the coffee while allowing a flow of heated water throug...

1. A removable self tamping coffee holder comprising: a coffee holder base having an open top for receiving a portion of untamped coffee, the coffee holder base configured to insert and remove from a coffee maker each time a serving of coffee is prepared and retained in the coffee maker by closing a coffee maker lid after inserting the coffee holder into the coffee maker;a holder lid attachable to the open top of the coffee holder after receiving the untamped coffee in the coffee holder base, wherein the holder lid is configured to allow entry of liquid into the coffee holder through the holder lid; anda tamper residing in the coffee holder base, the tamper tamping the untamped coffee inside the coffee holder whenever the holder lid is attached to the holder base, with the coffee holder inside the coffee maker, and with coffee holder outside the coffee maker. 2. The self tamping coffee holder of claim 1, wherein a tamping spring resides separated from the untamped coffee by the tamper to urge the tamper towards the untamped coffee to tamp the untamped coffee. 3. The self tamping coffee holder of claim 2, wherein: the tamper and tamping spring reside under the untamped coffee inside the holder base; and attaching the holder lid to the coffee holder base sandwiches the coffee between the holder lid and the tamper to tamp the coffee. 4. The self tamping coffee holder of claim 2, wherein the tamper and tamping spring reside over the untamped coffee. 5. The self tamping coffee holder of claim 4, wherein the tamping spring resides between the holder lid and the tamper, and attaching the holder lid to the holder base sandwiches the coffee between the tamper and the holder base to tamp the coffee. 6. The self tamping coffee holder of claim 1, wherein the tamper is a recessed portion of the holder lid which enters the holder base when the holder lid is attached to a holder base to sandwich the coffee between the holder base and the recessed portion of the holder lid to tamp the coffee. 7. The self tamping coffee holder of claim 6, wherein the holder lid includes a male threaded portion and the holder base includes a female threaded portion and the holder lid is attached to the holder base by screwing the holder lid into the holder base and the coffee is sandwiched between the male threaded portion and the holder base to tamp the coffee. 8. The self tamping coffee holder of claim 1, further including a removable filter paper cup residing in the interior of the holder base, the filter paper cup including a top rim held against the holder lid and providing a receptacle for the portion of untamped coffee. 9. The self tamping coffee holder of claim 8, wherein the top rim portion reaches above and outwardly from the interior of the holder base for sandwiching between the holder base and the holder lid to seal the coffee holder. 10. The self tamping coffee holder of claim 9, wherein the engagement of the holder lid with the holder base sandwiches the top rim portion of the filter paper cup to secure the filter paper cup. 11. The self tamping coffee holder of claim 2, wherein: the tamper is a bottom tamper;the tamping spring resides in the bottom of the holder base and the bottom tamper is supported by the tamping spring; andthe coffee holder further including a latch for holding the bottom tamper in a down position and releasing the latch, after the coffee holder lid is attached to the coffee holder base, tamps the untamped coffee in the coffee holder. 12. The self tamping coffee holder of claim 11, further including a lever for holding the latch in a first position retaining the bottom tamper, wherein a user may press the lever to release the latch to tamp the coffee. 13. The self tamping coffee holder of claim 11, further including a lever for holding the latch in a first position retaining the bottom tamper and an arm extending down from the holder lid, wherein attaching the holder lid to the holder base presses the arm against the lever to release the latch to tamp the coffee. 14. The self tamping coffee holder of claim 1, wherein the tamper includes a tamping portion and a tamper spring portion, the tamping portion facing the untamped coffee to urge the tamper towards the untamped coffee to tamp the untamped coffee. 15. A self tamping reusable coffee holder comprising: a coffee holder base;a coffee filter residing in the interior of the coffee holder base for receiving a portion of untamped coffee;a top rim portion of the coffee filter reaching above and outwardly from the interior of the coffee holder base;a coffee holder lid closing the coffee holder base after receiving the untamped coffee in the coffee holder base to form an assembled coffee holder, the coffee holder lid and coffee holder base configured to engage together to form the coffee holder and retain the coffee holder lid in engagement with the coffee holder base, the engagement of the coffee holder lid with the coffee holder base sandwiching the top rim portion of the coffee filter and secures the coffee filter; anda tamper and tamping spring inside the coffee holder the tamping spring biasing the tamper towards the untamped coffee to tamp the untamped coffee inside the coffee holder base when the coffee holder lid is engaged with the coffee holder base, wherein:the assembled coffee holder configured to engage with a source of heated water to receive the heated water to brew a serving of coffee and to disengage from the source of heated water after brewing the serving of coffee and allow disposal of used coffee and reuse of the coffee holder; andthe tamper tamping the untamped coffee inside the coffee holder in both conditions comprising: whenever the holder lid is attached to the holder base and the coffee holder is not engaged with the source of heated water ; andwhenever the holder lid is attached to the holder base and the coffee holder is engaged with the source of heated water. 16. The self tamping coffee holder of claim 15, wherein: the coffee holder is configured to insert and remove from a coffee maker each time a serving of coffee is prepared;the coffee holder lid is attachable to the coffee holder base, using features of the coffee holder lid and coffee holder base, to assemble the coffee holder before inserting the coffee holder into the coffee maker; andthe coffee holder is retained in the coffee maker by closing a coffee maker lid after inserting the assembled coffee holder into the coffee maker. 17. The self tamping reusable coffee holder of claim 15, wherein the tamper and tamper spring are attached to the holder lid and attaching the holder lid to the holder base containing the untamped coffee, while the holder is disengaged from the source of heated water, tamps the untamped coffee. 18. The self tamping reusable coffee holder of claim 15, wherein the tamper and tamper spring reside under the untamped coffee in the holder base and attaching the holder lid to the holder base containing the untamped coffee, while the holder is disengaged from the source of heated water, tamps the untamped coffee. 19. A self tamping coffee holder comprising: a removable and reusable holder base having an interior and an exterior and open top for receiving a portion of untamped coffee;mesh filtering material separating the interior of the holder base from the exterior of the holder base, the mesh filtering material for retaining the portion of untamped coffee received through the open top of the holder base;a holder lid closing the open top of the holder base after receiving the untamped coffee in the holder base, the holder lid and holder base including cooperating features to fix the holder lid in the closed position to the holder base; anda recessed portion of the holder lid reaching inside the holder base to tamp the untamped coffee inside the holder base when the holder lid is fixed to the holder base outside a coffee maker and independent of the coffee makerthe assembled coffee holder configured to engage with a coffee maker to receive the heated water to brew a serving of coffee and to disengage from the coffee maker after brewing the serving of coffee and allow disposal of used coffee and reuse of the coffee holder; andthe recessed portion of the holder lid tamping the untamped coffee inside the coffee holder in both conditions comprising: whenever the holder lid is attached to the holder base and the coffee holder is not engaged with the coffee maker; andwhenever the holder lid is attached to the holder base and the coffee holder is engaged with the coffee maker. 20. The self tamping coffee holder of claim 19, wherein the mesh filtering material comprises a filter cup including a rim and a filtering material attached to the rim and forming a concave chamber for holding the coffee. 21. The self tamping coffee holder of claim 19, wherein the mesh filtering material comprises a metal mesh material fixed to the holder base. 22. The self tamping coffee holder of claim 19, wherein: the coffee holder is configured to insert and remove from a coffee maker each time a serving of coffee is prepared;the coffee holder lid is attachable to the coffee holder base, using features of the coffee holder lid and coffee holder base, to assemble the coffee holder before inserting the coffee holder into the coffee maker; andthe coffee holder is retained in the coffee maker by closing a coffee maker lid after inserting the assembled coffee holder into the coffee maker. 23. A removable self tamping coffee holder comprising: a coffee holder base having an open top configured for receiving a portion of untamped coffeea holder lid attachable to close the open top of the coffee holder base to form an assembled coffee holder after receiving the untamped coffee in the coffee holder base, wherein the attached holder lid is configured to retain the coffee in the coffee holder base and to allow entry of liquid into the coffee holder through the holder lid;the assembled coffee holder engagable with a coffee maker to make a serving of coffee and the assembled coffee holder dis-engagable from the coffee maker after each time the serving of coffee is prepared;the holder lid detachable from the coffee holder base each time after making the serving of coffee allowing disposal of used coffee grounds and re-use of the coffee holder; anda tamper residing in the coffee holder, the tamper tamping the untamped coffee inside the coffee holder in both conditions comprising: whenever the holder lid is attached to the holder base and the coffee holder is not engaged with the coffee maker; andwhenever the holder lid is attached to the holder base and the coffee holder is engaged with the coffee maker.
