Apparatuses, methods and systems for liquid flow control and beverage preparation are disclosed. The apparatuses, methods and systems of the present invention include liquid flow control and beverage preparation capsules, pods, cartridges, pouches, systems, and modules for controlling and directing flow streams of liquid through a beverage preparation process. The apparatuses, methods and systems of the present invention may be used in combination with or included as an integral assembly of any apparatus, method or system for liquid dispension.

A system for guiding liquid through an enhanced beverage preparation process comprising: a. means for supplying a flow of liquid having an inlet adapted for fluid communication with a source of liquid and an outlet adapted for fluid communication with a beverage receiving point;b. means in the flow of liquid comprising: i. a flow-through mode having an enhancement flow path connected in fluid communication with the source of liquid, the enhancement flow path having a chamber adapted for housing an enhancement component; andii. a parallel flow mode having a liquid flow path connected in fluid communication with the source of liquid and an enhancement flow path with a chamber adapted for housing an enhancement component;c. said means in the flow of/liquid configurable to either: i. the flow-through mode to prepare an enhanced beverage; orii. the parallel flow mode to prepare the enhanced beverage. 2. The system of claim 1 wherein the means in the flow of liquid comprises a means for selecting between a single or plural liquid flow paths. 3. The system of claim 2 wherein the selecting means comprises a valve for configuring the liquid flow path to the flow-through mode and the parallel flow mode. 4. The system of claim 1 wherein the means insertable in the flow of liquid comprises a removable assembly. 5. The system of claim 4 further comprises a removable assembly comprising an enhancement module, capsule, pouch or cartridge. 6. The system of claim 5 further comprising a plurality of the enhancement modules, capsules, pouches or cartridges for different enhanced beverage preparation processes. 7. The system of claim 6 wherein the enhancement module is in the flow-through mode when the enhancement module houses the enhancement capsule, pouch, or cartridge having the flow-through configuration. 8. The system of claim 6 wherein the plurality of modules, capsules, pouches or cartridges comprise flow control components. 9. The system of claim 8 wherein the flow control components comprise one or both of: a. a parallel liquid flow geometry adapted to produce the beverage by passing the flow of liquid through a liquid flow path, an enhancement component through an enhancement flow path and combining liquid from both flow paths at the mixing point;b. a flow-through liquid flow geometry adapted to produce the beverage by passing the flow of liquid through a liquid flow path in communication with an enhancement component. 10. The system of claim 9 wherein the liquid flow path comprises on of: a. a permeable membrane housing the enhancement component;b. an enhancement cartridge housing the enhancement component;c. a membrane separating the liquid in the liquid flow path from the enhancement component;d. an inlet having a barrier separating the liquid in the liquid flow path from the enhancement component. 11. The system of claim 9 wherein the enhancement module is in the parallel flow mode when the enhancement module houses the enhancement capsule, pouch or cartridge having the parallel flow configuration. 12. The system of claim 9 wherein the enhancement flow path comprises one of: a. a membrane having an expanded position within the enhancement component from pressure of the liquid;b. a Venturi configuration for combining liquid with the enhancement component;c. an actuator having an actuated position for applying pressure on a membrane housing the enhancement component;d. a pressurized capsule having an actuated position for combining liquid with the enhancement component. 13. The system of claim 1 in combination with a housing. 14. The system of claim 13 wherein the housing comprises a stand-alone device. 15. The system of claim 13 wherein the housing comprises a refrigeration unit. 16. The system of claim 15 wherein the refrigeration unit houses the liquid flow path comprising: a. a flow-through configuration having a liquid flow path in communication with a chamber adapted for receipt of an enhancement cartridge; andb. a parallel flow configuration having an enhancement flow path in communication with a container housing an enhancement component. 17. The system of claim 13 wherein the housing is integrated with a refrigeration unit. 18. The system of claim 13 wherein the housing is retrofitted to a refrigeration unit. 19. The system of claim 1 wherein the means for supplying a flow of liquid comprises a liquid flow path having an inlet adapted for fluid communication with a source of liquid and an outlet adapted for fluid communication with a receiving point. 20. The system of claim 19 wherein the liquid flow path is housed within an enhancement module, capsule, pouch or cartridge.
