A laundry retainer for bed sheets to prevent entanglement with smaller items in a mixed load of laundry in a washer or dryer comprising a resilient base plate with a top and a bottom and a side edge,at least four clothes clips substantially equally spaced about the periphery of the base plate, said clips having a first end capable of gripping and retaining a side edge of a sheet and a second end whereby the clip is attached to the base plate with the first end facing outwardly, each of the clips pivotally attached to the base plate and having limited movement between a plane substantially parallel to the top of the base plate with the first end facing outwardly and a plane substantially normal thereto with the first end facing upwardly when the bed sheet is tumbled in the washer or dryer,whereby when said laundry retainer is attached to the four side edges of the bed sheet, the laundry retainer draws the side edges together to form a generally closed mouth bag in which smaller items in a mixed load are less likely to become entangled. 2. The laundry retainer of claim 1 wherein the second end of each clip has an aperture and the base plate has a pair of apertures, said retainer further comprising a ring for pivotally attaching the clip to the base plate, said ring passing though the aperture in the clip and apertures in the base plate. 3. The laundry retainer of claim 1 wherein the base plate has a plus sign configuration with four lobes to which the four clips are attached. 4. The laundry retainer of claim 1 wherein the base plate and clips are formed of plastic with deterioration resistance to washing soaps and drying temperatures. 5. A laundry retainer for bed sheets to prevent entanglement with smaller items in a mixed load of laundry in a washer or dryer comprising a resilient base plate with a top and a bottom and a side edge,at least four clothes clips substantially equally spaced about the periphery of the base plate, said clips having first and second jaws, each of said first and second jaws having a first end capable of gripping and retaining a side edge of a sheet and a second end whereby each clip is pivotally attached to the base plate and has limited movement between a plane substantially parallel to the top of the base plate with the first end facing outwardly and a plane substantially normal thereto with the first end facing upwardly when the bed sheet is tumbled in the washer or dryer, said first and second jaws of each clip connected by a web that functions as a fulcrum intermediate the first and second ends, each of said clips further including a U-shaped member with a bight connected to converging arms, said converging arms urging the first end of the first and second jaws into gripping contact when the web connecting the first and second jaws is seated on the bight of the U-shaped memberwhereby when said laundry retainer is attached to the four side edges of the bed sheet, the laundry retainer draws the side edges together to form a generally closed mouth bag in which smaller items in a mixed load are less likely to become entangled. 6. The laundry retainer of claim 5 wherein the second end of each clip has an aperture and the base plate has a pair of apertures, said retainer further comprising a ring for pivotally attaching the clip to the base plate, said ring passing though the aperture in the clip and apertures in the base plate. 7. The laundry retainer of claim 5 wherein the base plate has a plus sign configuration with four lobes to which the four clips are attached. 8. The laundry retainer of claim 5 wherein the base plate and clips are formed of plastic with deterioration resistance to washing soaps and drying temperatures.
