The method includes a protocol engine executing on a computing device recording a protocol data stream comprising a plurality of packets representing a user session. The protocol engine determines a complexity factor for a first portion of the protocol data stream and for a second portion of the protocol data stream based on content of the packets of the protocol data stream. The protocol engine determines a first playback rate for the first portion of the protocol data stream and a second playback rate for the second portion of the protocol data stream using the complexity factor of each portion of the protocol data stream, wherein the first playback rate differs from the second playback rate. The protocol engine renders the protocol data stream according to the determined playback rates.

A method for generating playback instructions for time-warped playback of presentation layer protocol data, the method comprising: recording, by a protocol engine executing on a computing device, a protocol data stream comprising a plurality of packets representing a user session;determining, by the protocol engine, a complexity factor for a first portion of the protocol data stream and for a second portion of the protocol data stream based on content of the packets of the protocol data stream, wherein determining the complexity factor comprises at least one of: identifying probable keyboard input sequences, inspecting a sequence of at least one glyph rendered to complete a heuristic approximation of probable keyboard input sequences, identifying a mouse input rate, and identifying a heuristic approximation of complexity of a graphics update;determining, by the protocol engine, a first playback rate for the first portion of the protocol data stream and a second playback rate for the second portion of the protocol data stream using the complexity factor of each portion of the protocol data stream, wherein the first playback rate differs from the second playback rate; andrendering, by the protocol engine, the protocol data stream according to the determined playback rates. 2. The method of claim 1, wherein determining further comprises determining playback rates for a first portion of the protocol data stream having a first complexity factor, and a second portion of the protocol data stream having a second complexity factor different than the first complexity factor. 3. The method of claim 1, wherein determining further comprises determining the complexity factor using a pre-determined factor based on an application associated with an identified importance level. 4. The method of claim 1, wherein rendering further comprises rendering the first portion of the protocol data stream at the first playback rate, and the second portion of the protocol data stream at the second playback rate. 5. The method of claim 1, further comprising inserting a marker into the protocol data stream to indicate points of interest in the protocol data stream. 6. The method of claim 5, further comprising rendering a portion of the protocol data stream corresponding to the inserted marker at a slower playback rate. 7. The method of claim 1, further comprising presenting a representation of a recording to a user. 8. The method of claim 1, further comprising monitoring an activity of the user during the presentation. 9. The method of claim 1, further comprising developing an activity profile responsive to the monitoring of the activity. 10. The method of claim 9, further comprising generating at least one state-snapshot, responsive to the activity profile. 11. A system for generating playback instructions for time-warped playback of presentation layer protocol data, the system comprising: a computing device; anda protocol engine executing on the computing device to: record a protocol data stream comprising a plurality of packets representing a user session,determine a complexity factor for a first portion of the protocol data stream and for a second portion of the protocol data stream based on content of the protocol data stream packets, wherein the protocol engine determines the complexity factor by at least one of: identifying probable keyboard input sequences, inspecting a sequence of at least one glyph rendered to complete a heuristic approximation of probable keyboard input sequences, identifying a mouse input rate, and identifying a heuristic approximation of complexity of a graphics update;determine a first playback rate for the first portion of the protocol data stream and a second playback rate for the second portion of the protocol data stream using the complexity factor of each portion of the protocol data stream, wherein the first playback rate differs from the second playback rate, andrender the protocol data stream according to the determined playback rates. 12. The system of claim 11, wherein the first portion of the protocol data stream has a first complexity factor, and the second portion of the protocol data stream has a second complexity factor different than the first complexity factor. 13. The system of claim 11, wherein the protocol engine determines the complexity factor using a pre-determined factor based on an application associated with an identified importance level. 14. The system of claim 11, wherein the protocol engine renders the first portion of the protocol data stream at the first playback rate, and the second portion of the protocol data stream at the second playback rate. 15. The system of claim 11, wherein the protocol engine inserts a marker into the protocol data stream to indicate points of interest in the protocol data stream. 16. The system of claim 15, wherein the protocol engine renders the portion of the protocol data stream corresponding to the inserted marker at a slower playback rate. 17. The system of claim 11, wherein the protocol engine presents a representation of a recording of a protocol data stream to a user. 18. The system of claim 11, wherein the protocol engine monitors an activity of the user during the presentation. 19. The system of claim 11, wherein the protocol engine develops an activity profile responsive to monitoring of the activity. 20. The system of claim 19, wherein the protocol engine generates at least one state-snapshot, responsive to the activity profile.
