A method of delivering a liquid sterilant to a sterilizer involves piercing a cell of a cassette with a first needle having a first lumen, flowing a gas into the cell to pressurize the cell relative to a pressure within the first lumen and drive the liquid sterilant out of the cell through the first lumen. The liquid sterilant travels from the lumen to a vaporizer in the sterilizer.

1. A method for delivering a liquid sterilant to a sterilizer, comprising: inserting a cassette into a sterilizer, the cassette comprising a plurality of cells, wherein at least one cell contains liquid sterilant;moving the cassette laterally to position the cassette adjacent to an extraction assembly, the extraction assembly comprising a first needle having a first lumen, wherein a cell of the cassette is positioned adjacent to the first needle;piercing a cell of the cassette with the first needle having the first lumen;flowing a gas into the cell to pressurize the cell relative to a pressure within the first lumen and drive the liquid sterilant out of the cell through the first lumen; andflowing the liquid sterilant from the lumen to a vaporizer in the sterilizer. 2. The method of claim 1, further comprising: withdrawing the first needle from the cell of the cassette;moving the cassette laterally so that the pierced cell is moved away from the first needle and a second cell is positioned adjacent the first needle;piercing the second cell of the cassette with the first needle having the first lumen;flowing a gas into the second cell to pressurize the second cell relative to a pressure within the first lumen and drive the liquid sterilant out of the second cell through the first lumen; andflowing the liquid sterilant from the first lumen to a vaporizer in the sterilizer. 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the first needle comprises the first lumen and a second lumen that opens into the pierced cell, and further comprising injecting the gas into the cell through the second lumen. 4. The method of claim 3, wherein the second lumen is in fluid communication with an air pump configured to drive air into the cell through the second lumen. 5. The method of claim 1, wherein the extraction assembly comprises the first needle having the first lumen and a second needle having a second lumen, wherein a cell of the cassette is positioned adjacent to both the first needle and the second needle, and further comprising: piercing the cell with the second needle having the second lumen so that the second lumen opens into the cell; andinjecting the gas into the cell through the second lumen. 6. The method of claim 5, wherein the second lumen is in fluid communication with an air pump configured to drive air into the cell through the second lumen. 7. The method of claim 1, wherein the gas is at atmospheric pressure and the first lumen is at a pressure below atmospheric pressure. 8. The method of claim 7, wherein the first lumen is in fluid communication with the vaporizer and the vaporizer is in fluid communication with a vacuum source, and further comprising placing the first lumen at a pressure below atmospheric pressure by activating the vacuum source. 9. The method of claim 1, wherein the gas is at a pressure greater than atmospheric pressure. 10. The method of claim 1, wherein the extraction assembly comprises an actuator that drives the first needle into a cell of the cassette, thereby penetrating the cell. 11. The method of claim 1, wherein in the piercing step, the first needle enters the cell laterally. 12. The method of claim 1, wherein in the piercing step, the first needle enters the cell at an upper portion thereof and travels downwardly therein. 13. The method of claim 12, further comprising positioning the first needle so that the first lumen opens into the cell at or near its lowest point, thereby maximizing extraction of liquid sterilant from the cell. 14. The method of claim 1, further comprising positioning the first needle so that the first lumen opens into the cell at or near its lowest point, thereby maximizing extraction of liquid sterilant from the cell. 15. The method of claim 1, further comprising: positioning the first needle so that the first lumen opens into the cell at a predetermined vertical position; andextracting the liquid sterilant above the predetermined vertical position, wherein less than a total amount of liquid sterilant in the cell is extracted. 16. The method of claim 1, further comprising repeating the steps to perform multiple extractions from multiple cells to complete at least one sterilization cycle. 17. The method of claim 16, further comprising: moving the cassette away from the extraction assembly when the cassette has been depleted of sterilant; andejecting the cassette. 18. The method of claim 1, wherein the liquid sterilant comprises hydrogen peroxide. 19. A method for delivering a liquid sterilant to a sterilizer comprising: inserting a cassette into a sterilizer, the cassette comprising a plurality of cells, wherein at least one cell contains liquid sterilant;moving the cassette laterally to position the cassette adjacent to an extraction assembly, the extraction assembly comprising a needle comprising a first lumen and a second lumen, wherein a cell of the cassette is positioned adjacent to the needle;piercing a cell of the cassette with the needle so that the first lumen and the second lumen open in the cell;flowing a gas through the second lumen into the cell to pressurize the cell relative to a pressure within the first lumen and drive the liquid sterilant out of the cell through the first lumen; andflowing the liquid sterilant from the first lumen to a vaporizer in the sterilizer. 20. A method for delivering a liquid sterilant to a sterilizer comprising: inserting a cassette into a sterilizer, the cassette comprising a plurality of cells, wherein at least one cell contains liquid sterilant;moving the cassette laterally to position the cassette adjacent to an extraction assembly, the extraction assembly comprising a first needle having a first lumen and a second needle having a second lumen, wherein a cell of the cassette is positioned adjacent to both the first needle and the second needle;piercing a cell of the cassette with both the first needle and the second needle so that the first lumen and the second lumen open in the cell;flowing a gas through the second lumen into the cell to pressurize the cell relative to a pressure within the first lumen and drive the liquid sterilant out of the cell through the first lumen; andflowing the liquid sterilant from the first lumen to a vaporizer in the sterilizer.
