A method for coupling an end of a first insulated conductor to an end of a second insulated conductor that includes placing a sleeve over the end of the first insulated conductor and the end of the second insulated conductor; filling an interior volume of the sleeve with electrically insulating mate
A method for coupling an end of a first insulated conductor to an end of a second insulated conductor that includes placing a sleeve over the end of the first insulated conductor and the end of the second insulated conductor; filling an interior volume of the sleeve with electrically insulating material; and moving the end of the first insulated conductor and the end of the second insulated conductor towards the center of the sleeve. When the ends of the insulated conductors are moved together an end of a core of the first insulated conductor and an end of a core of the second insulated conductor are coupled inside a core coupling located inside the sleeve and the electrically insulating material is compressed between an end portion of an electrical insulator in the first insulated conductor and an end portion of an electrical insulator in the second insulated conductor.
1. A method for coupling an end portion of a first insulated conductor to an end portion of a second insulated conductor, comprising: placing a sleeve over the end portion of the first insulated conductor and the end portion of the second insulated conductor;filling an interior volume of the sleeve
1. A method for coupling an end portion of a first insulated conductor to an end portion of a second insulated conductor, comprising: placing a sleeve over the end portion of the first insulated conductor and the end portion of the second insulated conductor;filling an interior volume of the sleeve with electrically insulating material; andmoving the end portion of the first insulated conductor and the end portion of the second insulated conductor towards the center of the sleeve;wherein an end portion of a core of the first insulated conductor and an end portion of a core of the second insulated conductor are electrical coupled inside an electrically conductive core coupling located inside the sleeve when the end portions of the insulated conductors are moved together; andwherein the electrically insulating material is compressed between an end portion of an electrical insulator in the first insulated conductor and an end portion of an electrical insulator in the second insulated conductor when the end portions of the insulated conductors are moved together. 2. The method of claim 1, further comprising pressing the insulated conductors into the sleeve and compacting the electrically insulating material into the electrical insulators of the insulated conductors. 3. The method of claim 1, further comprising pressing the cores of the insulated conductors together in the core coupling when the end portions of the insulated conductors are moved together. 4. The method of claim 1, further comprising compacting the electrically insulating material by application of vibration along with reduction of the interior volume of the sleeve. 5. The method of claim 1, further comprising substantially filling the interior volume of the sleeve with electrically insulating material. 6. The method of claim 1, further comprising substantially filling the interior volume of the sleeve with electrically insulating material such that there are substantially no macroscopic voids in the interior volume. 7. The method of claim 1, wherein the sleeve comprises one or more grooves that inhibit electrically insulating material from moving out of the sleeve. 8. The method of claim 1, further comprising tapering the end portion of the electrical insulator of at least one of the insulated conductors at an angle from a jacket of the insulated conductor to the core of the insulated conductor inside the fitting. 9. The method of claim 1, wherein the core coupling comprises a tapered inside diameter with a smaller diameter at the center of the coupling to enhance contact with the cores of the insulated conductors. 10. The method of claim 1, wherein the core coupling comprises one or more grooves on the inside diameter of the coupling that enhance contact with the cores of the insulated conductors. 11. The method of claim 1, further comprising compressing the electrically insulating material with a pressure of at least 25,000 pounds per square inch. 12. The method of claim 1, further comprising centering the sleeve between the end portions of the insulated conductors. 13. The method of claim 1, further comprising reducing the interior volume of the sleeve by applying hydraulic pressure to the sleeve. 14. The method of claim 1, further comprising reducing the interior volume of the sleeve by swaging the sleeve. 15. The method of claim 1, wherein the electrically insulating material comprises material substantially similar to electrical insulation in at least one of the two insulated conductors. 16. The method of claim 1, wherein the core coupling tightly fits around the end portion of the core of the first insulated conductor and the end portion of the core of the second insulated conductor. 17. The method of claim 1, wherein the electrically insulating material comprises a mixture of magnesium oxide and/or boron nitride. 18. The method of claim 1, wherein the first insulated conductor and the second insulated conductor each comprise an electrically conductive jacket, the method further comprising welding or brazing the sleeve to the jackets.
