A ball bat extending along a longitudinal axis, the bat comprising: a tubular bat frame including; a first frame piece having a gripping portion integrally formed to a transition portion, the transition portion having a distal end region, anda second frame piece having a proximal end region, the distal end region of the first frame piece being coupled to the proximal end region of the second frame piece, one of the distal and proximal end regions overlapping and contacting the other of the distal and proximal end regions, an outer surface of the transition portion and an outer surface of the second frame piece collectively forming a ball impact area of the bat, each of the outer surfaces representing at least 30 percent of the ball impact area, the overlapping distal and proximal end regions being the only overlapped region of the ball impact area the overlap of the distal end region of the transition portion and proximal end region of the second frame piece forming a ball impact overlap region, the outside diameter of the ball impact area remaining substantially the same along the length of the ball impact overlap region,the bat having a center of percussion, and the mid-length of the overlap of the distal and proximal end regions being positioned within plus or minus three inches of the center of percussion of the bat. 2. The ball bat of claim 1, wherein the gripping portion of the first frame piece has a first mean outside diameter, and the distal end region of the transition portion has a second mean outside diameter, and wherein the second mean outside diameter is at least 50 percent greater than first mean outside diameter. 3. The ball bat of claim 1, further comprising an end cap, wherein the second piece includes a second distal end region coupled to the end cap. 4. The ball bat of claim 1 wherein the length of the overlap of the distal end region of the transition portion and proximal end region of the second frame piece measured with respect to the longitudinal axis is within the range of 0.1 inches to 7 inches. 5. The ball bat of claim 4 wherein the length of the overlap is within the range of 1.0 inches to 2.5 inches. 6. The ball bat of claim 1, wherein, when the bat is tested in accordance with the NCAA Standard for Testing Baseball Bat Performance, the bat has a maximum BBCOR value of less than or equal to 0.500. 7. The ball bat of claim 1, wherein the proximal end region of the second frame piece is rigidly interconnected with the distal end region of the transition portion. 8. The ball bat of claim 1, further comprising at least one engagement layer positioned between the proximal end region of the second frame piece and the distal end region of the transition portion. 9. The ball bat of claim 8, wherein the at least one engagement layer is formed of a material selected from the group consisting of a thermoplastic material, a thermoset material, a metal, wood and combinations thereof. 10. The ball bat of claim 1, wherein the overlap of the distal end region of the transition portion and proximal end region of the second frame piece has a length measured with respect to the longitudinal axis, and wherein the center of the length of the overlap is within the range of 5.0 to 9.0 inches from a distal end of the bat. 11. The ball bat of claim 1, wherein the first frame piece is formed of a first material and the second frame piece is formed of a second material. 12. The ball bat of claim 11, wherein the first and second materials are different from each other. 13. The ball bat of claim 11, wherein the first and second materials are selected from the group consisting of an aluminum alloy, a titanium alloy, a steel, other metallic alloys, fiber composite material, a thermoplastic material, a thermoset material and combinations thereof. 14. The ball bat of claim 1, wherein the proximal end region of the second frame piece is co-molded to the distal end region of transition portion. 15. The ball bat of claim 1, wherein the distal end region of transition portion is co-molded to the proximal end region of the second frame piece. 16. The ball bat of claim 1 wherein the wall thickness of the bat frame at the overlap of the distal end region of the transition portion and proximal end region of the second frame piece is greater than the wall thickness of either the transition portion alone or the second frame piece alone. 17. The ball bat of claim 1, wherein the first frame piece is telescopically engaged with the second frame piece. 18. The ball bat of claim 1, wherein the second frame piece does not extend to the gripping portion of the first frame piece. 19. The ball bat of claim 1, further comprising at least one insert positioned within and engaging the ball impact area of the bat frame. 20. The ball bat of claim 1, wherein the overlap of the distal and proximal end regions encompasses the center of percussion of the bat.
