The portable device of claim 3, wherein the desired action comprises sending a message from the device. 6. The portable device of claim 1, wherein the captured image data comprises barcode imagery. 7. A method comprising: capturing, using a camera, image data from an environment of the user;receiving sensor data that varies in accordance with movement of a portable device by a user thereof, wherein the image data is the sensor data;interpreting the sensor data as user input indicating a desired action to be performed with respect to the image data from the environment of the user; andperforming the desired action with respect to captured imagery. 8. The method of claim 7, wherein the camera comprises a 2D optical sensor. 9. The method of claim 7, wherein taking the desired action is based on object identification information derived from the captured image data. 10. The method of claim 9, further comprising obtaining data from a remote computer relating to an object identified by the object identification information. 11. The method of claim 9, wherein the desired action comprises sending a message from the device. 12. The method of claim 7, wherein the captured image data comprises barcode imagery. 13. A non-transitory computer-readable medium, having instructions stored thereon, the instructions comprising: instructions for capturing, using a camera, image data from an environment of the user;receiving sensor data that varies in accordance with movement of a portable device by a user thereof, wherein the image data is the sensor data;interpreting the sensor data as user input indicating a desired action to be performed with respect to the image data captured from the environment of the user; andperforming the desired action with respect to captured imagery. 14. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 13, wherein the camera comprises a 2D optical sensor. 15. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 13, wherein taking the desired action is based on object identification information derived from the captured image data. 16. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15, wherein the instructions further comprise instructions for obtaining data from a remote computer relating to an object identified by the object identification information. 17. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15, wherein the desired action comprises sending a message from the device. 18. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 13, wherein the captured image data comprises barcode imagery.
