1. A peritoneal dialysis system comprising: an enclosure;a stepper motor housed by the enclosure;a pump head in operable communication with the stepper motor;a disposable unit including at least one flexible membrane attached to a rigid piece, the enclosure configured to receive the disposable unit such that the stepper motor can move the pump head towards and away from the flexible membrane to cause, the flexible membrane to move outwardly with respect to the rigid piece as the pump head is moved away from the disposable unit, and the flexible membrane to move inwardly with respect to the rigid piece as the pump head is moved towards the disposable unit;one of (i) an encoder positioned to sense a position of the pump head, and (ii) a home position and a sensor that indicates how far from the home position the pump head has traveled; anda graphical user interface including a display device; a processor that operates with the display device to display a plurality of peritoneal dialysis (“PD”) screens; a first area of the display device dedicated to a plurality of mode selection icons, each mode icon dedicated to a single mode, the area and the mode selection icons displayed on each of the peritoneal dialysis screens; and a second area of the display device dedicated to temporarily displaying, for each selected mode icon, at least one of a graphic and text specific to a selected corresponding mode, the modes including a therapy mode, a parameter adjustment mode and a log mode, the processor configured upon selection of one of the modes to cause the display device to operate in the selected mode, and wherein the at least one graphic and text specific to the therapy, parameter adjustment and log modes is accessible exclusively via the corresponding icon, the therapy mode including a graphic pictorially discerning between a PD fill cycle and a PD drain cycle and pictorially indicating how far the fill or drain cycle has proceeded. 2. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 1, wherein the home position is a fully opened or fully closed position for the membrane with respect to the rigid piece of the disposable unit. 3. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 1, which is configured to move the stepper motor automatically upon power-up until the home position is sensed. 4. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 1, wherein the graphical user interface includes an input device that operates so that a user can indicate that a peritoneal dialysis therapy step displayed by one of the peritoneal dialysis screens has been completed. 5. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 1, wherein the graphical user interface includes an input device that operates to stop a peritoneal dialysis step corresponding to one of the peritoneal dialysis screens. 6. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 1, wherein the graphical user interface includes an input device that operates to cause a display of a previously displayed one of the peritoneal dialysis screens. 7. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 1, wherein the graphical user interface includes a plurality of input devices that operate with the processor to control the display of one of a plurality of different sets of screens, the sets categorizing the screens according to functionality, the sets each corresponding to one of the mode selection icons. 8. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 1, wherein the sets of screens include a therapy set, a parameter adjustment set and a log set. 9. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 1, wherein the graphical user interface includes an analog input device that operates with the processor so that at least one operating dialysis parameter on one of the peritoneal dialysis screens is displayed, which is not initially displayed by the peritoneal dialysis screens. 10. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 1, wherein the second area is bordered by a box. 11. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 1, wherein the graphical user interface includes a touch screen, the mode selection icons each corresponding to a separate selectable area of the touch screen. 12. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 1, wherein the graphical user interface includes an apparatus for indicating the mode selection icon that corresponds to a currently active mode. 13. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 1, wherein a plurality of therapy set-up screens in the therapy mode have a first coloration and a plurality of therapy treatment screens in the therapy mode have a second coloration. 14. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 1, wherein the therapy mode includes a plurality of therapy set-up screens that require an input from a user to proceed through the set-up screens and a plurality of dialysis treatment screens that do not require an input by the user to proceed through the dialysis treatment. 15. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 1, wherein at least one of the modes corresponding to at least one of the mode selection icons includes a plurality of selectable sub-categories. 16. A peritoneal dialysis machine comprising a touch screen display that includes a mode-indicating portion and an operation-descriptive portion, the mode-indicating portion having a plurality of touch sensitive icons each indicating one of a plurality of modes in which the machine can operate, the display being used to keep a patient continually informed of which one mode of at least three operating modes the machine is operating in, as the operation-descriptive portion changes to display details of a specific operation being carried out within the one mode, the icons for each of the three operating modes always being visible to the patient while the machine is operating, the operating mode being selected by the patient touching one of the icons on the screen, the machine further configured such that: touching one of the icons selects a current operating mode in which the machine is operating, the icon for the selected mode being highlighted in response to that mode being selected;(ii) in the operation descriptive portion of the display, information is displayed concerning the operation of the machine within the selected operating mode without changing either the display of the icons for each of the three operating modes or changing the highlighting of the icon for the selected mode, the information including at least one of a graphic and text specific to a selected operating mode, and wherein the at least one graphic and text specific to the selected operating mode is accessible exclusively via the corresponding icon; and(iii) selecting a different icon changes the mode of operation of the machine and causes a different icon to be highlighted and at the same time, causes the previously selected icon for the prior mode of operation to be unhighlighted. 17.
