In one aspect, the invention can be a frame comprising first and second channels in a rear surface of the frame; a first and second mounting plate, each of which comprises a first, second and third edge and a vertical axis; the first mounting plate secured to the rear surface of the frame so that the first channel is coextensive with the vertical axis of the first mounting plate and the second mounting plate secured to the rear of the frame so that the second channel is coextensive with the vertical axis of the second mounting plate; a bracket assembly comprising a first pair of vertically aligned hooks and a second pair of vertically aligned hooks; and wherein the first and second pairs of hooks of the bracket assembly extend into the first and second channels, respectively.

The apparatus of claim 1 further comprising: wherein the first and second mounting elements of the first elongate member comprise first and second hooks and the first and second mounting elements of the second elongate member comprises first and second hooks; andwherein the first and second mounting elements of the first mounting plate comprise first and second edges and the first and second mounting elements of the second mounting plate comprises first and second edges. 3. The apparatus of claim 2 further comprising: the first edges of the first and second mounting plates formed by first apertures in the first and second mourning plates respectively; andthe second edges of the first and second mourning plates formed by second apertures in the first and second mounting plates respectively. 4. The apparatus of claim 3 further comprising: the frame comprising an annular channel;the first mounting plate secured to the rear surface of the flame so that the first and second edges of the first mounting plate overlie and extend transverse to a first portion of the annular channel; andthe second mounting plate secured to the rear surface of the frame so that the first and second edges of the second mounting plate overlie and extend transverse to a second portion of the annular channel. 5. The apparatus of claim 4 further comprising: the first and second hooks of the first elongate member extending into the first portion of the annular channel while the first and second edges of the first mounting plate extend into slots formed by the first and second hooks of the first elongate member; andthe first and second hooks of the second elongate member extending into the second portion of the annular channel while the first and second edges of the second mounting plate extend into slots formed by the first and second hooks of the second elongate member. 6. The apparatus of claim 1 further comprising: the first mounting plate comprising: a first flat plate secured to the rear surface of the frame by one or more fasteners;each of the first and second mounting elements of the first mounting plate comprising a raised portion that protrudes from the rear surface of the frame to form a nesting space for receiving the first and second mounting elements of the first elongate member respectively; andthe second mounting plate comprising: a second flat plate secured to the rear surface of the frame by one or more fasteners;each of the first and second mounting elements of the second mounting plate comprising a raised portion that protrudes from the rear surface of the frame to form a nesting space for receiving the first and second mounting elements of the second elongate member respectively. 7. The apparatus of claim 6 further comprising: the first bracket and a top portion of the first elongate member collectively forming a generally U-shaped structure having a first angled flange; andthe second bracket and a top portion of the second elongate member collectively forming a generally U-shaped structure having a second angled flange. 8. The apparatus of claim 7 further comprising: the first mounting plate comprising a vertical axis that is substantially parallel to the vertical centerline of the frame, the first and second mounting elements of the first mounting plate aligned along the vertical axis of the first mounting plate; andthe second mounting plate comprising a vertical axis that is substantially parallel to the vertical centerline of the frame, the first and second mounting elements of the second mounting plate aligned along the vertical axis of the second mounting plate. 9. The apparatus of claim 8 wherein the first elongate member comprises first and second apertures and the second elongate member comprises first and second apertures. 10. An over-the-door hanging apparatus comprising: a frame comprising an outer edge, an inner edge defining a central opening, and a rear surface;a mirror positioned within the central opening of the frame;a first mounting plate and a second mounting plate, the first and second mounting plates secured to the rear surface of the frame on opposite sides of a vertical centerline of the frame, the first mounting plate comprising first and second mourning, elements vertically spaced from one another, the second mounting plate comprising first and second mounting elements vertically spaced from one another;a bracket assembly comprising: a first elongate member comprising a front surface, a rear surface, a first bracket extending from the rear surface of the first elongate member for slidably engaging a top edge of a door, and a first mounting element:a second elongate member comprising a front surface, a rear surface, a second bracket extending from the rear surface of the second elongate member for slidably engaging the top edge of the door and a first mounting element;wherein the frame is alterable between: (1) being slidably mounted to the bracket assembly at a first height by at least slidable mating between the first mounting element of the first mounting plate and the first mounting element of the first elongate member, and slidable mating between the first mounting element of the second mounting plate and the first mounting element of the second elongate member; and (2) being slidably mounted to the bracket assembly at a second height that is different than the first height by at least slidable mating between the second mounting element of the first mounting plate and the first mounting element of the first elongate member, and slidable mating between the second mounting element of the second mounting plate and the first mounting element of the second elongate member. 11. The apparatus of claim 10 further comprising: wherein each of the first and second mounting plates comprises a third mounting element;wherein each of the first and second elongate members comprises a second mounting element;wherein the first and second mounting elements of the first elongate member comprise first and second hooks and the first and second mounting elements of the second elongate member comprises first and second hooks; andwherein the first, second and third mounting elements of the first mounting plate comprise first, second and third edges and the first, second and third mounting elements of the second mounting plate comprises first, second and third edges. 12. The apparatus of claim 11 further comprising: the frame comprising an annular channel;the first mounting plate secured to the rear surface of the frame so that the first, second and third edges of the first mounting plate overlie and extend transverse to a first portion of the annular channel; andthe second mounting plate secured to the rear surface of the frame so that the first, second and third edges of the second mounting plate overlie and extend transverse to a second portion of the annular channel. 13. The apparatus of claim 12 further comprising: wherein when the frame is slidably mounted to the bracket assembly at the first height: (1) the first and second hooks of the first elongate member extend into the first portion of the annular channel while the first and second edges of the first mounting plate extend into slots formed by the first and second hooks of the first elongate member; and(2) the first and second hooks of the second elongate member extend into the second portion of the annular channel while the first and second edges of the second mounting plate extend into slots formed by the first and second hooks of the second elongate member; andwherein when the frame is slidably mounted to the bracket assembly at the second height: (1) the first and second hooks of the first elongate member extend into the first portion of the annular channel while the second and third edges of the first mounting plate extend into the slots formed by the first and second hooks of the first elongate member; and(2) the first and second hooks of the second elongate member extend into the second portion of the annular channel while the second and third edges of the second mounting plate extend into the slots formed by the first and second hooks of the second elongate member. 14. The apparatus of claim 10 further comprising: the first mounting plate comprising: a first flat plate secured to the rear surface of the frame b one or more fasteners;the first mounting element of the first mounting plate comprising a raised portion that protrudes from the rear surface of the frame to form a nesting space for receiving the first mounting element of the first elongate member; andthe second mounting plate comprising: a second flat plate secured to the rear surface of the frame by one or more fasteners;the first mounting element of the second mounting plate comprising a raised portion that protrudes from the rear surface of the frame to form a nesting space for receiving the first mounting element of the second elongate member. 15. The apparatus of claim 14 further comprising: the first bracket and a top portion of the first elongate member collectively forming a generally U-shaped structure having a first angled flange; andthe second bracket and a top portion of the second elongate member collectively forming a generally U-shaped structure having a second angled flange. 16. The apparatus of claim 14 further comprising wherein the first elongate member comprises first and second apertures and the second elongate member comprises first and second apertures. 17. An over-the-door hanging apparatus comprising: a frame having a rear surface and supporting a flat article, a first channel in the rear surface of the frame, a second channel in the rear surface of the frame, the first and second channels located on opposite sides of a centerline of the frame;a first flat plate secured to the rear surface of the frame so as to overlie a top portion of the first channel and leave a bottom portion of the first channel unobstructed;a second flat plate secured to the rear surface of the frame so as to overlie a top portion of the second channel and leave a bottom portion of the second channel unobstructed;a bracket assembly comprising a front surface, a rear surface, a first hook extending outwardly from the front surface of the bracket assembly, a second hook extending outwardly from the front surface of the bracket assembly, and at least one bracket extending from the rear surface of the bracket assembly for engaging a top edge of a door; andthe frame slidably mounted to the bracket assembly by the first hook extending into the top portion of the first channel via the bottom portion of the first channel and the second hook extending into the top portion of the second channel via the bottom portion of the second channel. 18. The apparatus of claim 17 wherein the frame comprises an annular channel, the first channel forming a first portion of the annular channel and the second channel forming a second portion of the annular channel. 19. The apparatus of claim 18 wherein the bracket assembly comprises a first elongate member and a second elongate member, the first elongate member comprising the first hook and a first one of the brackets, the second elongate member comprising the second hook and a second one of the brackets, and wherein the first and second elongate members are spaced-apart and extend in a substantially vertical orientation. 20. An over-the-door hanging apparatus comprising: a frame having a rear surface and supporting a flat article, the frame comprising an annular channel in the rear surface of the frame;a first mounting plate and a second mounting plate, each of the first and second mounting plates comprising a first edge, a second edge spaced from the first edge, and an axis intersecting the first and second edges, the first mounting plate secured to the rear surface of the frame so that the axis of the first mounting plate is coextensive with a first portion of the annular channel and the first and second edges of the first mounting plate extend transverse to the first portion of the annular channel, the second mounting plate secured to the rear surface of the frame so that the axis of the second mounting plate is coextensive with a second portion of the annular channel and the first and second edges of the second mounting plate extend transverse to the second portion of the annular channel;a bracket assembly comprising a front surface, a rear surface, a first hook extending outwardly from the front surface of the bracket assembly so as to form a first slot, a second hook extending outwardly from the front surface of the bracket assembly so as to form a second slot, and at least one bracket extending from the rear surface of the bracket assembly for engaging a top edge of a door;wherein the frame is alterable between: (1) being slidably mounted to the bracket assembly at a first height by the first hook extending into the first portion of the annular channel so that the first edge of the first mounting plate is located within the first slot, and the second hook extending into the second portion of the annular channel so that the first edge of the second mounting plate is located within the second slot; and (2) being slidably mounted to the bracket, assembly at a second height that is different than the first height by the first hook extending into the first portion of the annular channel so that the second edge of the first mounting plate is located within the first slot, and the second hook extends into the second portion of the annular channel so that the second edge of the second mounting plate is located within the second slot. 21. The apparatus of claim 20 wherein the frame comprises an outer edge and an inner edge defining a central opening, the flat article positioned within the central opening, wherein the flat article is a mirror or piece of art. 22. The apparatus of claim 20 wherein the first and second hooks each comprise generally S-shaped tabs that frictionally engage the first and second mounting plates. 23. The apparatus of claim 20 wherein the first edges of the first and second mounting plates are formed by first apertures in the first and second mounting plates, and the second edges of the first and second mounting plates are formed by bottom edges of the first and second mounting plates. 24. An over-the-door hanging apparatus comprising: a frame having a rear surface, a vertical centerline and supporting a flat article;a first mounting plate and a second mounting plate, each of the first and second mounting plates comprising a first edge, a second edge, a third edge, and a vertical axis intersecting the first, second and third edges, the first and second mounting, plates secured to the rear surface of the frame on opposite sides of the vertical centerline;a bracket assembly comprising a front surface, a rear surface, a first pair of hooks extending outwardly from the front surface of the bracket assembly, each of the hooks of the first pair forming a slot, a second pair of hooks extending outwardly from the front surface of the bracket assembly, each of the hooks of the second pair forming a slot, and at least one bracket extending from the rear surface of the bracket assembly for engaging a top edge of a door;wherein the frame is alterable between: (1) being, slidably mounted to the bracket assembly at a first height by the first and second edges of the first mounting plate being slid into the slots of the hooks of the first pair, and the first and second edges of the second mounting plate being slid into the slots of the hooks of the second pair; and (2) being slidably mounted to the bracket assembly at a second height that is different than the first height by the second and third edges of the first mounting plate being slid into the slots of the hooks of the first pair, and the second and third edges of the second mounting plate being located within the slots of the hooks of the second pair.
