Devices, systems, and methods for producing ophthalmic lens molds and molded ophthalmic lenses are described. The present devices, systems, and methods provide venting of gases produced during injection molding of ophthalmic lens molds. With the present devices, systems, and methods, improvements in mold quality, lens quality, mold quality consistency, and lens quality consistency can be achieved compared to existing injection molding devices, systems, and methods. An optic power insert bushing is described and includes a venting system that directs gas from a first end of the bushing toward a second end of the bushing. The gas is directed between an optic power insert and an inner sidewall surface of a bushing bore in which the optic power insert is located. The bushing or bushings, and optic power inserts, can be provided as components of an ophthalmic lens mold injection system. Methods of making and using the vented bushings are also described.

1. A method of producing an ophthalmic lens mold, comprising: directing a thermoplastic material into a mold cavity to form a molded ophthalmic lens mold, the mold cavity comprising an optic power insert located in an optic power insert bushing, the optic power insert having an external surface, the bushing comprising a first end, a second end, a length extending from the first end to the second end, and a bore surrounded by an interior sidewall surface and structured to accommodate, at least in part, the exterior surface of the optic power insert, the optic power insert and the bushing having a venting system located between the exterior surface of the optic power insert and the interior sidewall surface of the bushing, the venting system comprising a plurality of channels for directing gas out of the mold cavity from the first end of the bushing toward the second end of the bushing. 2. The method of claim 1, further comprising removing the molded ophthalmic lens mold from the mold cavity. 3. A method of producing an ophthalmic lens, comprising: providing first and second ophthalmic lens mold members, at least one of the mold members being produced by a method comprising directing a thermoplastic material into a mold cavity comprising an optic power insert located in an optic power insert bushing, the bushing comprising a first end, a second end, a length extending from the first end to the second end, a bore surrounded by an interior sidewall surface and structured to accommodate the optic power insert, the insert and bushing having a venting system located between the exterior surface of the insert and the interior sidewall surface of the bushing, the venting system comprising a plurality of channels structured to direct gas out of the mold cavity from the first end of the bushing toward the second end of the bushing; andcuring a polymerizable lens precursor composition located in an ophthalmic lens shaped cavity defined by the first and second ophthalmic lens mold members to produce a molded ophthalmic lens. 4. The method of claim 3, wherein the plurality of channels of the venting system are located in the interior sidewall surface of the bushing. 5. The method of claim 4, wherein each of the plurality of channels has a maximum depth less than 200 micrometers. 6. The method of claim 4, wherein each of the plurality of channels has a maximum depth less than about 20 micrometers. 7. The method of claim 4, wherein each of the plurality of channels has a maximum depth from about 1 micrometer to about 15 micrometers. 8. The method of claim 4, wherein each of the plurality of channels has a maximum depth from about 6 micrometers to about 8 micrometers. 9. The method of claim 4, wherein each of the plurality of channels is located between a first interior sidewall surface and a spaced apart second interior sidewall surface. 10. The method of claim 4, wherein each of the plurality of channels is parallel to each other and extends from near the first end of the bushing to the second end of the bushing. 11. The method of claim 4, wherein the channels are eroded channels formed in the interior sidewall surface. 12. The method of claim 11, wherein the channels are selected from the group consisting of electrical discharge machined channels, wire eroded channels, acid eroded channels, and combinations thereof. 13. The method of claim 3, wherein the optic power insert contacts a portion of the interior sidewall and remains in a laterally fixed position when the optic power insert is located in the bore. 14. The method of claim 3, wherein the optic power insert contacts at least 30% of the surface area of the interior sidewall surface when the optic power insert is located in the bore. 15. The method of claim 3, wherein the optic power insert contacts from about 40% to about 60% of the surface area of the interior sidewall surface when the optic power insert is located in the bore. 16. The method of claim 3, wherein the molded ophthalmic lens is a silicone hydrogel contact lens. 17. The method of claim 3, wherein the molded ophthalmic lens is a contact lens comprising a tonic zone. 18. A method of producing an ophthalmic lens, comprising: providing first and second ophthalmic lens mold members, at least one of the mold members being produced by a method comprising directing a thermoplastic material into a mold cavity comprising an optic power insert comprising an exterior surface located in an optic power insert bushing, the bushing comprising a first end, a second end, a length extending from the first end to the second end, a bore surrounded by an interior sidewall surface and surrounding, at least in part, the optic power insert, and a venting system structured to direct gas out of the mold cavity from the first end of the bushing toward the second end of the bushing;wherein the venting system comprises a vent path formed between the interior sidewall surface of the bore of the bushing and the optic power insert to permit gas flow across the interior sidewall surface of the bushing and the exterior surface of the optic power insert from the first end to the second end; andcuring a polymerizable lens precursor composition located in an ophthalmic lens shaped cavity defined by the first and second ophthalmic lens mold members to produce a molded ophthalmic lens.
