Method and apparatus for providing multiple data receiver units in a data monitoring and management system such as analyte monitoring system where a first data receiver includes all of the functionalities for the data monitoring and management system receiver unit, and a second data receiver unit is configured with limited functions to provide application specific convenience to the user or patient is disclosed.
1. A method of analyte monitoring, comprising: receiving, with one of a first or a second electronic device, one or more signals associated with a monitored analyte level;detecting, with the one of the first or the second electronic device, whether the other one of the first or the second electronic
1. A method of analyte monitoring, comprising: receiving, with one of a first or a second electronic device, one or more signals associated with a monitored analyte level;detecting, with the one of the first or the second electronic device, whether the other one of the first or the second electronic device is in a power on state;transmitting the one or more signals from the one of the first or the second electronic device to the other one of the first or the second electronic device; andpowering down the other one of the first or the second electronic device when the one of the first or the second electronic device is detected to be in the power on state. 2. The method of claim 1 further comprising: monitoring the analyte level; andtransmitting the one or more signals each corresponding to the monitored analyte level substantially in real time. 3. The method of claim 1 wherein detecting with the one of the first or the second electronic device whether the other one of the first or the second electronic device is in the power on state includes receiving a power on state signal from the other one of the first or the second electronic device. 4. The method of claim 1 wherein detecting with the one of the first or the second electronic device whether the other one of the first or the second electronic device is in the power on state includes periodically transmitting a signal, and receiving a return acknowledgement signal from the other one of the first or the second electronic device. 5. The method of claim 1 wherein powering down the one of the first or the second electronic device includes executing a hibernate mode. 6. The method of claim 5 wherein the one of the first or the second electronic device does not accept signals transmitted from the other one of the first or the second electronic device when in the hibernate mode. 7. The method of claim 1 wherein the monitored analyte level includes a glucose level. 8. The method of claim 1 wherein transmitting the one or more signals from the one of the first or the second electronic device to the other one of the first or the second electronic device includes performing data synchronization. 9. The method of claim 1 including receiving with the other one of the first or the second electronic device additional one or more signals associated with the analyte level being monitored. 10. The method of claim 1 wherein transmitting the one or more signals from the one of the first or the second electronic device to the other one of the first or the second electronic device includes establishing a communication link between the other one of the first or the second electronic device and the one of the first or the second electronic device. 11. The method of claim 10 wherein the communication link includes one or more of an infrared communication link, a radio frequency communication link, a short range communication link, or a cable connection. 12. The method of claim 1 including outputting the one or more signals on a user interface of the one of the first or the second electronics device when the other one of the first or the second electronic device is in the power on state. 13. The method of claim 12 further including outputting on the user interface of the other one of the first or the second electronic device additional one or more signals associated with the analyte level being monitored. 14. The method of claim 13 including outputting trend information on the user interface based at least in part on the one or more signals received from the one of the first or the second electronic device and the additional one or more signals associated with the analyte level being monitored. 15. The method of claim 12 including outputting trend information on the user interface based at least in part on the one or more signals received from the one of the first or the second electronic device. 16. The method of claim 1 further comprising receiving a time information associated with a duration of a power off state of the other one of the first or the second electronic device. 17. The method of claim 16 wherein the time information includes a time stamp information of a beginning of the power off state and a time stamp information of a beginning of the power on state. 18. The method of claim 16 wherein the transmitted one or more signals correspond to one or more signals received with the one of the first or the second electronic device during the duration of the power off state of the other one of the first or the second electronic device. 19. The method of claim 1 including receiving additional one or more signals associated with the analyte level being monitored with the one of the first or the second electronic device and the other one of the first or the second electronic device. 20. The method of claim 1 wherein the received one or more signals associated with the monitored analyte level is obtained by an analyte sensor including a plurality of electrodes, wherein the plurality of electrodes include a working electrode comprising an analyte responsive enzyme and a mediator, wherein at least one of the analyte-responsive enzyme and the mediator is chemically bonded to a polymer disposed on the working electrode, and wherein at least one of the analyte-responsive enzyme and the mediator is crosslinked with the polymer.
