The lighting fixture of claim 1, wherein the power management unit is further configured to control the plurality of LEDs so as to change the variable occupancy-based lighting based on an amount of ambient daylight illumination in the environment. 3. The lighting fixture of claim 2, wherein the change in the variable occupancy-based lighting includes at least one of an intensity change, a color temperature change, and a beam angle change. 4. The lighting fixture of claim 1, wherein the power management unit is further configured to control the plurality of LEDs so as to change the variable occupancy-based lighting in response to an indication of an undesired light level. 5. The lighting fixture of claim 1, wherein the power management unit is further configured to control the plurality of LEDs so as to change an ambient illumination level of the environment illuminated by the plurality of LEDs based on a frequency with which the environment is occupied. 6. The lighting fixture of claim 1, wherein the power management unit is further configured to control the plurality of LEDs so as to change an ambient illumination level of the environment illuminated by the plurality of LEDs to reduce wastage of energy. 7. The lighting fixture of claim 1, wherein the power management unit is further configured to control the plurality of LEDs so as to eliminate dark spots in the environment illuminated by the plurality of LEDs. 8. The lighting fixture of claim 1, further comprising: an operating mode input, operatively coupled to the power management unit, to provide an operating parameter based on a time of day, andwherein the at least one rule further determines at least one additional weight to apply to the operating parameter. 9. The lighting fixture of claim 1, further comprising: a user interface to override the power management unit. 10. The lighting fixture of claim 1, wherein at least one of the occupancy sensor and the ambient light sensor is at least one of field-installable and field-swappable. 11. The lighting fixture of claim 1, wherein the modular sensor bus is configured to convey information from at least one of the occupancy sensor and the ambient light sensor to the power management unit. 12. The lighting fixture of claim 1, further comprising: a communications interface, operably coupled to the power management unit, to transmit at least one of the occupancy information and the ambient light information to at least one of a server, a controller, and another lighting fixture. 13. A lighting fixture to provide variable occupancy-based lighting of an environment, the lighting fixture comprising: a modular sensor bus;an occupancy sensor, operatively coupled to the modular sensor bus, to provide occupancy information representing a presence or an absence of an occupant in the environment;an ambient light sensor, operatively coupled to the modular sensor bus, to provide ambient light information representing an ambient light level in the environment;a plurality of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to provide the variable occupancy-based lighting at a plurality of light levels; anda power management unit, operatively coupled to modular sensor bus and the plurality of (LEDs), to control the variable occupancy-based lighting based at least in part on the occupancy information provided by the occupancy sensor and the ambient light information provided by the ambient light sensor, the power management module including: a memory to store (i) a set of rules managing the variable occupancy-based lighting according to the occupancy information and the ambient light information and (ii) a representation of a nonlinear mapping of the ambient light information from the ambient light sensor to values representing predetermined ambient light levels; anda processor to select one of the plurality of light levels based on the set of rules in the memory, the occupancy information, and the ambient light information so as to provide the variable occupancy-based lighting and to map the ambient light information according to the nonlinear mapping. 14. The lighting fixture of claim 13, wherein the nonlinear mapping is generated by an initial calibration of the ambient light sensor. 15. The lighting fixture of claim 13, wherein the nonlinear mapping is pre-loaded into the memory. 16. A lighting method to provide variable occupancy-based lighting in an environment, the lighting method comprising: A) sensing an occupancy in the environment to provide occupancy information;B) sensing an ambient light level in the environment to provide ambient light information; andC) performing an analysis of the occupancy information and the ambient light information according to a set of rules managing the variable occupancy-based lighting, analysis comprising: C1) determining a frequency at which the environment is occupied; andC2) determining a change in an ambient illumination level of the environment based on the frequency at which the environment is occupied; andD) determining a light level of a plurality of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) based on the analysis of the occupancy information and the ambient light information. 17. The lighting method of claim 16, wherein performing the analysis of the occupancy information and the ambient light information according to the set of rules managing the variable occupancy-based lighting further comprises: determining a change in the variable occupancy-based lighting based on an amount of ambient daylight illumination available. 18. The lighting method of claim 16, wherein performing the analysis of the occupancy information and the ambient light information according to the set of rules managing the variable occupancy-based lighting further comprises: determining a change in the variable occupancy-based lighting in response to an indication of an undesired light level. 19. The lighting method of claim 16, wherein performing the analysis of the occupancy information and the ambient light information according to the set of rules managing the variable occupancy-based lighting further comprises: determining a change in an ambient illumination level of an environment illuminated by the plurality of LEDs to reduce wastage of energy. 20. The lighting method of claim 16, wherein performing the analysis of the occupancy information and the ambient light information according to the set of rules managing the variable occupancy-based lighting further comprises: determining a change in the light level so as to eliminate dark spots in the environment illuminated by the plurality of LEDs. 21. The lighting method of claim 16, wherein determining the light level of the plurality of LEDs based on the analysis of the occupancy information and the ambient light information further comprises: determining at least one of a change in intensity, color temperature, and beam angle of the plurality of LEDs. 22. The lighting method of claim 16, further comprising: E) causing the plurality of LEDs to emit light at the light level determined based on the analysis of the occupancy information and the ambient light information. 23. The lighting method of claim 16, further comprising: F) conveying information at least one of the occupancy information and the ambient light information to a processor via a modular sensor bus. 24. The lighting method of claim 16, further comprising: G) transmitting at least one of the occupancy information and the ambient light information to at least one of a server, a controller, and another lighting fixture. 25. A lighting method to provide variable occupancy-based lighting in an environment, the lighting method comprising: A) sensing an occupancy in the environment to provide occupancy information;B) sensing an ambient light level in the environment to provide ambient light information; andC) performing an analysis of the occupancy information and the ambient light information according to a set of rules managing the variable occupancy-based lighting, analysis comprising: C1) determining a weight to apply to each of the occupancy information and the ambient light information to produce weighted signals; andC2) combining the weighted signals via an arbitration algorithm; andC3) determining an adjustment to the variable occupancy-based lighting according to an output of the arbitration algorithm; andD) determining a light level of a plurality of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) based on the analysis of the occupancy information and the ambient light information. 26. The lighting method of claim 25, wherein determining the weight to apply to each of the occupancy information and the ambient light information to produce the weighted signals further comprises: accepting an operating parameter based on a time of day; anddetermining a weight to apply to the operating parameter. 27. A lighting method to provide variable occupancy-based lighting in an environment, the lighting method comprising: A) sensing an occupancy in the environment to provide occupancy information;B) sensing an ambient light level in the environment to provide ambient light information; andC) performing an analysis of the occupancy information and the ambient light information according to a set of rules managing the variable occupancy-based lighting, analysis comprising applying a nonlinear mapping of the ambient light information to values representing accurate ambient light levels; andD) determining a light level of a plurality of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) based on the analysis of the occupancy information and the ambient light information. 28. The lighting method of claim 27, further comprising, before performing the analysis of the occupancy information and the ambient light information according to the set of rules managing the variable occupancy-based lighting: generating the nonlinear mapping by an initial calibration. 29. The lighting method of claim 27, further comprising, before performing the analysis of the occupancy information and the ambient light information according to the set of rules managing the variable occupancy-based lighting: storing the nonlinear mapping into a memory. 30.
