The present invention relates generally to processing audio and video data. One claim recites a method of accessing content stored in a remote database. The method includes: receiving video or audio data; decoding an auxiliary machine-readable code from the video or audio data; deriving a fingerprint, which fingerprint is separate from the machine-readable code, from the video or audio data itself; providing user characteristics or an index to user characteristics; and by using the machine-readable code, fingerprint and user characteristics or information obtained with the index to user characteristics, accessing the content stored in the remote database. Of course, additional combinations and claims are provided as well.

The system of claim 1, wherein the user characteristics comprise preferences. 3. The system of claim 1, wherein the user characteristics comprise at least access rights. 4. The system of claim 1, wherein communication with the network resource is done wirelessly. 5. The system of claim 1, wherein the processor is further programmed with instructions configured to provide a web browser. 6. The system of claim 1, wherein the image comprises a photograph. 7. The system of claim 1, wherein the steganographic watermark comprises digital watermarking. 8. A method comprising: acquiring electronic data corresponding to audio or an image, wherein the audio or image comprises a steganographic watermark embedded therein;communicating with a network resource, wherein the communication comprises a resource locator contained within the watermark and a unique identifier that uniquely identifies a browser, wherein the network resource identifies a network location based at least in part on the resource locator and user characteristics, wherein the user characteristics are associated with the unique identifier, wherein the user characteristics comprise user history;receiving communication instructions from the network resource comprising the network location; and accessing remotely located content on the network resource. 9. The method of claim 8, wherein the user characteristics comprise preferences. 10. The method of claim 8, wherein the user characteristics comprise at least access rights. 11. The method of claim 8, wherein communication with the network resource is done wirelessly. 12. The method of claim 8, further comprising providing a web browser. 13. The method of claim 8, wherein the image comprises a photograph. 14. The method of claim 8, wherein the steganographic watermark comprises digital watermarking. 15. A non-transitory computer-readable medium having instructions stored thereon, the instructions comprising: instructions to acquire electronic data corresponding to audio or an image, wherein the audio or image comprises a steganographic watermark embedded therein;instructions to communicate with a network resource, wherein the communication comprises a resource locator contained within the watermark and a unique identifier the uniquely identifies a browser, wherein the network resource identities a network location based at least in part on the resource locator and user characteristics, wherein the user characteristics are associated with a unique identifier, and wherein the user characteristics comprise user history;instructions to receive communication instructions from the network resource comprising the network location; andinstructions to access remotely located content on the network resource. 16. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15, wherein the user characteristics comprise preferences. 17. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15, wherein the user characteristics comprise at least access rights. 18. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15, wherein communication with the network resource is done wirelessly. 19. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15, further comprising instructions to provide a web browser. 20.
