The thermostat of claim 1 wherein the controller unit causes a digital photographic image to be displayed on the display without requiring prompting by a user of the thermostat. 3. The thermostat of claim 1 wherein the thermostat includes a user interface, wherein the user interface includes the display, the user interface being responsive to the controller unit to accept an input from a user and to provide an output to the user. 4. The thermostat of claim 3 wherein the controller unit is configured to monitor when the user interface accepts an input from a user, the controller unit configured to cause a digital photographic image to be displayed on the display after a period of non-input by the user. 5. The thermostat of claim 1 wherein the controller unit causes a digital photographic image to be displayed as a background image on the display with one or more thermostat parameters displayed on top of at least parts of the background image. 6. The thermostat of claim 1 wherein the controller unit causes a digital photographic image to be displayed as a background image in a first region of the display with one or more thermostat parameters displayed in a second region of the display, wherein the second region does not overlap the first region. 7. The thermostat of claim 1 wherein the interface includes an electrical interface. 8. The thermostat of claim 7 wherein the electrical interface includes a USB interface. 9. The thermostat of claim 7 wherein the electrical interface includes an Ethernet interface. 10. The thermostat of claim 7 wherein the electrical interface includes a port that is configured to accept a removable memory. 11. The thermostat of claim 10 wherein the removable memory includes a flash memory. 12. The thermostat of claim 10 wherein the removable memory is configured to operate in conjunction with a digital camera, and wherein the removable memory stores at least one electronic image file that stores at least one digital photographic image from the digital camera. 13. The thermostat of claim 1 wherein the interface includes a wireless interface. 14. The thermostat of claim 13 wherein the wireless interface is a radio frequency (RF) wireless interface. 15. The thermostat of claim 13 wherein the wireless interface is an infrared (IR) wireless interface. 16. The thermostat of claim 13 wherein the wireless interface is a microwave wireless interface. 17. The thermostat of claim 10 wherein the electrical interface includes two or more ports, each adapted to accept a different type of removable memory. 18. The thermostat of claim 1 wherein the control unit includes a memory, wherein the memory stores at least one of the at least one electronic image file uploaded via the interface, and wherein the controller unit reads at least one electronic image file stored in the memory before displaying the digital photographic image on the display. 19. The thermostat of claim 1 wherein the external data source includes a removable flash memory and the interface includes a port for accepting the removable flash memory, and wherein the controller unit receives a first electronic image file from the removable flash memory and displays a first digital photographic image stored in the first electronic image file on the display before receiving a second electronic image file from the removable flash memory and displaying a second digital photographic image stored in the second electronic image file on the display. 20. The thermostat of claim 1 wherein the controller unit provides at least one image selection tool to aid a user in selecting which digital photographic image stored in the at least one electronic image file uploaded from the external data source to display on the display. 21. The thermostat of claim 20 wherein the at least one image selection tool displays one or more thumbnail images of the digital photographic images when more than one image is stored in the at least one electronic image file uploaded from the external data source on the display to aid a user in selecting which of the digital photographic images to display on the display. 22. The thermostat of claim 1 wherein two or more electronic image file are uploaded from the external data source, and wherein the controller unit is configured to sequentially display two or more digital photographic images stored in the two or more electronic image files on the display in a slide show format. 23. The thermostat of claim 22 wherein the controller unit is configured to provide a slide show effect between the display of the two or more digital photographic images on the display, wherein the slide show effect is one or more of a fade effect, a shutter effect, a cross-comb effect, a mask effect, a brick effect, and a dissolve effect. 24. The thermostat of claim 22 wherein the controller unit is configured to allow a user to select which of the two or more digital photographic images will be shown more often than other digital photographic images in the slide show format. 25. The thermostat of claim 1 wherein two or more electronic image files are uploaded from the external data source, and wherein the controller unit is configured to display one of the digital photographic images stored in one of the electronic image files on the display along with a next button, wherein when the user activates the next button, a digital photographic image stored in a next one of the electronic image files is displayed on the display. 26. The thermostat of claim 1 wherein the controller unit is further configured to display a back button, wherein when the user activates the back button, a digital photographic image stored in a previous one of the electronic image files is displayed on the display. 27. The thermostat of claim 1 wherein the at least one digital photographic image corresponds to a digital video. 28. The thermostat of claim 1, wherein the thermostat is configured to upload electronic file formats including at least one of JPEG, GIF, BMP, TIFF, PNG, WMF, PCX, MPEG, SWF, or SCR. 29. The thermostat of claim 1, wherein the controller unit is configured to simultaneously display the digital photographic image and at least one climate control system parameter. 30. The thermostat of claim 1, wherein two or more digital photographic images are uploaded, and the controller unit is configured to display a first photographic image for a first period of time and then to automatically display a second photographic image, without user input. 31. The thermostat of claim 1, wherein two or more digital photographic images are uploaded, and the controller unit is configured to display a first photographic image in a first region of the display and at a later time the controller unit automatically replaces the first image with a second photographic image, without user input. 32. The thermostat of claim 1 wherein the image covers substantially all of the display area. 33. The thermostat of claim 1 wherein at least part of the thermostat parameter displayed on the display area overlays the image. 34. The thermostat of claim 1 wherein the one or more thermostat parameters simultaneously displayed with the image includes an operating mode related parameter, wherein the operating mode related parameter at least partially overlays the image. 35. The thermostat of claim 1 wherein two or more digital photographic images are uploaded, and wherein the controller unit is configured to automatically display a first one of the digital photographic images after a predetermined amount of time after user input, wherein the first image is displayed for a first period of time and the controller unit then automatically replaces the first image with a second image. 36. The thermostat of claim 35 wherein the controller unit is configured to select which of the photographic images to display based on one or more thermostat parameters sensed by the thermostat.
