In some embodiments, a single fixed high-resolution scene camera or a fixed standard resolution scene camera of analog or IP connected type is used. The scene camera can be co-located with at least one pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) camera or used in a mode where less than full resolution of the scene camera is used for video but full resolution snapshots of areas are captured by the same camera. The area of interest is selected by the object-tracking feature of an intelligent video system, operated without human intervention, by electronically-implemented identification of the existence of area-specific subjects or targets of interest in the scene image field.

A non-transitory processor-readable medium storing code representing instructions to be executed by a processor, the code comprising code to cause the processor to: receive a sequence of video images of a scene having a first resolution;determine from content of the sequence of video images a presence of a target of interest within a portion of the scene during a time period;send a signal associated with an instruction to record a snapshot image of the portion of the scene during the time period;receive the snapshot image of the portion of the scene, the snapshot image having a second resolution greater than the first resolution; andlink the snapshot image to (1) a location of the portion of the scene within the sequence of video images and (2) the time period within the sequence of video images. 2. The non-transitory processor-readable medium of claim 1, wherein the code to cause the processor to link includes code to cause the processor to link the snapshot image to the time period within the sequence of video images such that the snapshot image is configured to be presented to a user with the sequence of video images at the time period within the sequence of video images. 3. The non-transitory processor-readable medium of claim 1, wherein the portion of the scene is a first portion of the scene and the time period is a first time period, the code further comprising code to cause the processor to: determine a velocity of the target of interest at the first time period;predict, based on the velocity of the target of interest, that the target of interest will be within a second portion of the scene during a second time period different than the first time period; andsend a signal associated with an instruction to record a snapshot image of the second portion of the scene during the second time period. 4. The non-transitory processor-readable medium of claim 1, wherein the code to cause the processor to link includes code to cause the processor to store metadata associated with the time period and the location of the portion of the scene within the scene. 5. The non-transitory processor-readable medium of claim 1, wherein the code to cause the processor to receive the sequence of video images includes code to cause the processor to receive the sequence of video images from a first camera, the code to cause the processor to receive the snapshot image includes code to cause the processor to receive the snapshot image from a second camera different from the first camera. 6. The non-transitory processor-readable medium of claim 1, wherein the portion of the scene containing the target of interest is a first portion of the scene, the code comprising code to cause the processor to: receive a snapshot image of a second portion of the scene that does not overlap the first portion of the scene, the snapshot image of the second portion of the scene having the second resolution. 7. The non-transitory processor-readable medium of claim 1, wherein the code to cause the processor to receive the sequence of video images includes code to cause the processor to receive the sequence of video images from a camera, the code to cause the processor to receive the snapshot image includes code to cause the processor to receive the snapshot image from the camera. 8. A non-transitory processor-readable medium storing code representing instructions to be executed by a processor, the code comprising code to cause the processor to: receive a sequence of video images of a scene having a first resolution;determine from content of the sequence of video images a presence of a target of interest within a portion of the scene; andsend a signal associated with an instruction to record a plurality of snapshot images of the portion of the scene at a second resolution greater than the first resolution, the signal including a parameter associated with a ratio of a number of snapshot images of the plurality of snapshot images to include a specific portion of the target of interest to those not to include the specific portion of the target of interest. 9. The non-transitory processor-readable medium of claim 8, wherein the specific portion of the target of interest is a face of the target of interest. 10. The non-transitory processor-readable medium of claim 8, the code further comprising code to cause the processor to: link a snapshot image from the plurality of snapshot images to (1) a location of the portion of the scene within the sequence of video images and (2) a time within the sequence of video images associated with the snapshot image. 11. The non-transitory processor-readable medium of claim 8, wherein the code to cause the processor to receive the sequence of video images includes code to cause the processor to receive the sequence of video images from a camera, the code further comprising code to cause the processor to: receive the plurality of snapshot images from the camera. 12. The non-transitory processor-readable medium of claim 8, wherein the code to cause the processor to receive the sequence of video images includes code to cause the processor to receive the sequence of video images from a first camera, the code further comprising code to cause the processor to: receive the plurality of snapshot images from a second camera different from the first camera. 13. The non-transitory processor-readable medium of claim 8, wherein the portion of the scene is a first portion of the scene containing the target of interest at a first time, the code further comprising code to cause the processor to: receive a velocity of the target of interest at the first time;predict, based on the velocity of the target of interest at the first time, that the target of interest will be within a second portion of the scene at a second time different than the first time; andsend a signal associated with an instruction to record a snapshot image of the second portion of the scene at the second time. 14. A non-transitory processor-readable medium storing code representing instructions to be executed by a processor, the code comprising code to cause the processor to: receive a sequence of video images of a scene having a first resolution;determine from content of the sequence of video images a presence of a target of interest within a portion of the scene;determine from the content of the sequence of video images an event associated with the target of interest; andsend a signal associated with an instruction to record a plurality of snapshot images of the portion of the scene at a second resolution greater than the first resolution, a rate of recording the plurality of snapshot images being based at least in part on an event type associated with the event. 15. The non-transitory processor-readable medium of claim 14, wherein the target of interest is a first target of interest, the event includes the first target of interest converging with a second target of interest. 16. The non-transitory processor-readable medium of claim 14, wherein the rate of recording the plurality of snapshot images is based on a default rate modified by a multiplier associated with the event type. 17. The non-transitory processor-readable medium of claim 14, the code further comprising code to cause the processor to: link a position within the scene of each snapshot image from the plurality of snapshot images and a time within the scene of each snapshot image from the plurality of snapshot images to the sequence of video images using metadata associated with the position and the time of each snapshot image from the plurality of snapshot images. 18. The non-transitory processor-readable medium of claim 14, wherein the code to cause the processor to receive the sequence of video images includes code to cause the processor to receive the sequence of video images from a camera, the code further comprising code to cause the processor to: receive the plurality of snapshot images from the camera. 19. The non-transitory processor-readable medium of claim 14, wherein the code to cause the processor to receive the sequence of video images includes code to cause the processor to receive the sequence of video images from a first camera, the code further comprising code to cause the processor to: receive the plurality of snapshot images from a second camera different from the first camera. 20.
