A wind turbine includes a tower with a nacelle mounted to the tower. A hub, with a plurality of blades extending therefrom, is rotatably mounted to the nacelle. A main shaft rotates with the hub, and at least one generator system is operatively connected to the main shaft. The generator system of the wind turbine includes a permanent magnet generator.
