Described herein are improved configurations for an apparatus that may include a plurality of resonators electrically interconnected and arranged in an array to form a composite resonator for wireless power transfer, each one of the plurality of resonators may include a block of a magnetic material having a conductor wire wrapped around a cross section thereof to form at least one loop enclosing an area substantially equal to the cross section, wherein the plurality of resonators are may be oriented so that a dipole moment of each one of the plurality of resonators is aligned with a dipole moment of each other one of the plurality of resonators.

An apparatus comprising a plurality of resonators electrically interconnected and arranged in an array to form a composite resonator for wireless power transfer, each one of the plurality of resonators including a block of a magnetic material having a conductor wire wrapped around a cross section thereof to form at least one loop enclosing an area substantially equal to the cross section, wherein the plurality of resonators are oriented so that a dipole moment of each one of the plurality of resonators is aligned with a dipole moment of each other one of the plurality of resonators. 2. The apparatus of claim 1 further comprising a second plurality of resonators arranged in the array, the second plurality of resonators each having a second dipole moment aligned with a second dipole moment of each other one of the second plurality of resonators. 3. The apparatus of claim 1 further comprising a second plurality of resonators arranged in the array, the second plurality of resonators electrically connected to one another in an electrical circuit separate from the first plurality of resonators. 4. The apparatus of claim 1 further comprising at least one block of magnetic material without a wrapped conductor within the composite resonator. 5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the array is a regular geometric array having a width, a height, and a length. 6. The apparatus of claim 5 wherein a separation between adjacent ones of the plurality of resonators in the array is less than ten percent of the largest of the width, the height, and the length of the array. 7. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the plurality of resonators are spatially separated from one another by a plurality of gaps. 8. The apparatus of claim 7 wherein at least one of the plurality of gaps contains a flexible magnetic material. 9. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the block of magnetic material within at least one of the plurality of resonators is formed of a plurality of smaller tiles of magnetic material. 10. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the conductor wire includes Litz wire. 11. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the axis of all the loops formed by the conductor wire in all of the plurality of resonators are substantially parallel. 12. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the plurality of resonators are of approximately equal size. 13. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein at least one of the blocks of magnetic material in one of the plurality of resonators includes a recessed notch to retain a corresponding one of the conductor wires. 14. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the composite resonator has a quality factor Q>100. 15. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein at least two of the plurality of resonators are electrically connected in series. 16. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein at least two of the plurality of resonators are electrically connected in parallel. 17. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising at least one capacitor electrically connected to at least one of the plurality of resonators. 18. An apparatus for wireless power transfer comprising: a plurality of blocks of a magnetic material arranged in an array, anda plurality of conductor wires, each one of the plurality of conductor wires wrapped around at least one of the plurality of blocks to form a loop thereabout, thereby forming a plurality of resonators, wherein the plurality of resonators are electrically connected to one another and oriented with parallel dipole moments. 19. The apparatus of claim 18, wherein the array is a regular geometric array having a width, a height, and a length. 20. The apparatus of claim 19, wherein a separation between adjacent ones of the plurality of blocks of magnetic material in the array is less than ten percent of a largest of the width, the height, and the length of the array. 21. The apparatus of claim 18, wherein each one of the plurality of blocks of magnetic material is formed of smaller tiles of magnetic material. 22. The apparatus of claim 18, wherein the plurality of conductor wires include Litz wire. 23. The apparatus of claim 18, wherein the plurality of loops formed by the plurality of conductor wires are substantially coaxial. 24. The apparatus of claim 18, wherein the plurality of resonators are spatially separated from one another by a plurality of gaps. 25. The apparatus of claim 24, wherein the gaps are filled with a flexible magnetic material. 26. The apparatus of claim 18, wherein the resonator has a quality factor Q>100. 27. The apparatus of claim 18, wherein the plurality of conductor wires are electrically connected in series. 28. The apparatus of claim 18, wherein the plurality of conductor wires are electrically connected in parallel. 29. The apparatus of claim 18, further comprising a power and control circuit electrically connected to the array. 30. The apparatus of claim 29 wherein the power and control circuit is adapted to independently energize each one of the plurality of resonators. 31. The apparatus of claim 29, further comprising a plurality of power and control circuits, each one of the plurality of power and control circuits electrically connected to a different one of the plurality of resonators. 32. The apparatus of claim 18, further comprising at least two capacitors electrically connected to the array for setting a resonant frequency and an impedance of the apparatus. 33. The apparatus of claim 18, further comprising at least one capacitor and at least one inductor electrically connected to the array for setting a resonant frequency and an impedance of the apparatus.
