The present invention is directed to a hemostatic textile, comprising: a material comprising a combination of glass fibers and one or more secondary fibers selected from the group consisting of silk fibers; ceramic fibers; raw or regenerated bamboo fibers; cotton fibers; rayon fibers; linen fibers; ramie fibers; jute fibers; sisal fibers; flax fibers; soybean fibers; corn fibers; hemp fibers; lyocel fibers; wool; lactide and/or glycolide polymers; lactide/glycolide copolymers; silicate fibers; polyamide fibers; feldspar fibers; zeolite fibers, zeolite-containing fibers, acetate fibers; and combinations thereof; the hemostatic textile capable of activating hemostatic systems in the body when applied to a wound. Additional cofactors such as thrombin and hemostatic agents such as RL platelets, RL blood cells; fibrin, fibrinogen, and combinations thereof may also be incorporated into the textile. The invention is also directed to methods of producing the textile, and methods of using the textile to stop bleeding.

A method of activating hemostatic systems in a body comprising applying a hemostatic textile to a wound, the hemostatic textile comprising glass fiber knitted or interwoven with secondary fiber, wherein the glass fiber and the secondary fiber contact blood when the hemostatic textile is applied to the wound. 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the relative amounts of the glass fiber and the secondary fiber range from about 50% to about 80% by weight glass fiber and from about 20% to about 50% by weight secondary fiber, based on the total weight of the hemostatic textile prior to application to the wound. 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the relative amounts of the glass fiber and the secondary fiber range from about 0.1% to about 99.9% by weight glass fiber and from about 99.9% to about 0.1% by weight secondary fiber, based on the total weight of the textile. 4. The method of claim 3, wherein the secondary fiber comprises plant fiber, wherein the relative amounts of the glass fiber and the plant fiber range from about 50% to about 80% by weight glass fiber and from about 20% to about 50% by weight plant fiber, based on the total weight of the hemostatic textile prior to application to the wound. 5. The method of claim 4, wherein the glass fiber is in warp and the plant fiber is in fill. 6. The method of claim 1, wherein the secondary fiber comprises plant fiber. 7. The method of claim 1, wherein the glass fiber has a diameter from 5 nanometers to 15 microns. 8. The packaged hemostatic textile of claim 1, wherein the glass fiber is a continuous filament. 9. The method of claim 1, wherein the glass fiber comprises alumino-borosilicate glasses. 10. The method of claim 1, wherein the secondary fiber comprises bamboo fiber. 11. The method of claim 1, wherein the secondary fiber comprises rayon fiber. 12. The method of claim 1, wherein the hemostatic textile is part of a wound dressing bandage and the wound dressing bandage is applied to the wound. 13. The method of claim 1, wherein the hemostatic textile is in a sterilized package and the package is opened prior to applying the hemostatic textile to the wound. 14. The method of claim 1, wherein applying the hemostatic textile to the wound results in platelets becoming bound to the glass fiber, the secondary fiber, or a combination thereof. 15. A method of activating hemostatic systems in a body comprising applying a hemostatic textile to a wound such that the hemostatic textile contacts blood, the hemostatic textile comprising glass fiber knitted or interwoven with plant fiber, wherein the relative amounts of the glass fiber and the plant fiber range from about 50% to about 80% by weight glass fiber and from about 20% to about 50% by weight plant fiber, based on the total weight of the hemostatic textile prior to application to the wound. 16. The method of claim 15, wherein the glass fiber has a diameter from 5 nanometers to 15 microns. 17. The method of claim 15, wherein the secondary fiber comprises bamboo fiber. 18. The method of claim 15, wherein the secondary fiber comprises rayon fiber. 19. A method of activating hemostatic systems in a body comprising applying a hemostatic textile to a wound such that the hemostatic textile contacts blood, the hemostatic textile comprising glass fiber co-woven or knitted with rayon fiber, the glass fiber comprising an alumino-borosilicate glass, the glass fiber having a diameter from 5 nanometers to 15 microns, wherein the relative amounts of the glass fiber and the rayon fiber range from about 50% to about 80% by weight glass fiber and from about 20% to about 50% by weight rayon fiber, based on the total weight of the hemostatic textile.
