The various methods and devices described herein relate to devices which, in at least certain embodiments, may include one or more sensors for providing data relating to user activity and at least one processor for causing the device to respond based on the user activity which was determined, at least in part, through the sensors. The response by the device may include a change of state of the device, and the response may be automatically performed after the user activity is determined.

1. A method, comprising: at an electronic device with one or more processors, memory, and a touch-sensitive display: receiving proximity data from a proximity sensor of the electronic device, wherein: the proximity sensor is configured to obtain proximity data corresponding to a location of a user relative to the electronic device; andthe proximity data represents at least one of a distance and a rate of change of distance;receiving a touch input on the touch-sensitive display;determining whether the device is in one of a first or second proximity state based on the received proximity data, wherein the second proximity state occurs when the electronic device is proximate to the user's ear;upon determining that the device is in the first proximity state, processing the touch input as an intentional touch input;upon determining that the device is in the second proximity state, processing the touch input as an unintentional touch input; andin response to a change in the received proximity data, changing the processing of the touch input. 2. The method of claim 1, including, after receiving the touch input on the touch-sensitive display, determining whether the touch input resembles contact with the user's face. 3. The method of claim 1, including: upon determining that the device is in the first proximity state, displaying information on the touch-sensitive display in a first display state, wherein the first display state is a regular power mode;upon determining that the device is in the second proximity state, ceasing to display information on the touch-sensitive display in a second display state different from the first display state, wherein the second display state is a low-power mode. 4. The method of claim 3, including, in response to a change in the received proximity data, changing the display state of the electronic device. 5. The method of claim 1, wherein the electronic device includes a radio frequency transceiver for communicating with one or more other electronic devices, the method including: determining whether the radio frequency transceiver is communicating with another electronic device;wherein the touch input is processed as an intentional touch input when the device is in the first proximity state and the radio frequency transceiver is not communicating with another electronic device; andwherein the touch input is processed as an unintentional touch input when the device is in the second proximity state and the radio frequency transceiver is communicating with another electronic device. 6. A non-transitory computer readable storage medium storing executable program instructions, which, when executed by an electronic with one or more processors, memory and a touch-sensitive display, cause the electronic device to: receive proximity data from a proximity sensor of the electronic device, wherein: the proximity sensor is configured to obtain proximity data corresponding to a location of a user relative to the electronic device; andthe proximity data represents at least one of a distance and a rate of change of distance;receive a touch input on the touch-sensitive display;determine whether the device is in one of a first or second proximity state based on the received proximity data, wherein the second proximity state occurs when the electronic device is proximate to the user's ear;upon determining that the device is in the first proximity state, process the touch input as an intentional touch input;upon determining that the device is in the second proximity state, process the touch input as an unintentional touch input; andin response to a change in the received proximity data, change the processing of the touch input. 7. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 6, wherein the executable program instructions cause the electronic device to: after receiving the touch input on the touch-sensitive display, determine whether the touch input resembles contact with the user's face. 8. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 6, wherein the executable program instructions cause the electronic device to: upon determining that the device is in the first proximity state, display information on the touch-sensitive display in a first display state, wherein the first display state is a regular power mode;upon determining that the device is in the second proximity state, cease to display information on the touch-sensitive display in a second display state different from the first display state, wherein the second display state is a low-power mode. 9. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 8, wherein the executable program instructions cause the electronic device to: in response to a change in the received proximity data, change the display state of the electronic device. 10. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 6, wherein the electronic device includes a radio frequency transceiver for communicating with one or more other electronic devices, the executable program instructions cause the electronic device to: determine whether the radio frequency transceiver is communicating with another electronic device;wherein the touch input is processed as an intentional touch input when the device is in the first proximity state and the radio frequency transceiver is not communicating with another electronic device; andwherein the touch input is processed as an unintentional touch input when the device is in the second proximity state and the radio frequency transceiver is communicating with another electronic device.
