The system of claim 1 wherein the safety wall has a generally rectangular cross-section with multiple vertical and horizontal tiers of supporting structural members enclosed within the safety wall structure. 4. The system of claim 1 where in the safety wall is rotated from the undeployed position to the deployed position by a hydraulic cylinder. 5. A system, comprising: (a) first and second platforms comprising at least one set of wheels; and(b) a safety wall positionable between and engaged with the first and second platforms to define an area protected from a vehicular incursion, wherein the safety wall further comprises:(c) a plurality of wall segments arranged in an accordion-like manner when the wall segments are in an undeployed position, wherein each wall segment is rotatable about a vertical axis with respect to an adjoining segment, and wherein hinge-like rotatable interconnections are provided at each interface between the wall segments; and(d) wherein brackets are provided on either side of the rotatable interconnections to receive support members to brace the rotatable interconnections and inhibit rotation of the wall segments in the event of a vehicular impact. 6. The system of claim 5 wherein a weight of the safety wall is at least partially offset by a ballast that is movable, along a fixed path, from one side of the first and/or second platform to the other side. 7. The system of claim 5 wherein each wall segment has a height of at least about 4 feet from bottom edge to top edge. 8. The system of claim 5 wherein an edge of the first and second platforms are angled to provide room for the undeployed wall segments to nest with the first and second platforms. 9. A system, comprising: (a) first and second platforms comprising at least one set of wheels; and(b) first and second safety walls positionable between and engaged with the first and second platforms to define an area protected from a vehicular incursion, wherein the safety walls further comprise:a mechanism for adjusting inclinations of the safety walls from an undeployed, non-vertical position to a deployed, vertical position, said mechanism comprising at least one double-spooled cable reel including first and second cables, each of the first and second cables spooled around a separate spool of the double-spooled cable reel and wherein when the double-spooled cable reel is rotated, the first cable is tightened, or collected on the corresponding spool and the second cable is loosened, or spooled out on the corresponding spool and when the first cable is collected and the second cable is spooled out, the safety walls rotate into and out of the vertical position. 10. The system of claim 9 wherein a weight of the safety wall is at least partially offset by a ballast that is movable, along a fixed path, from one side of the first and/or second platform to the other side. 11. The system of claim 9 wherein the safety wall further comprises wall segments having a height of at least about 4 feet from bottom edge to top edge. 12. The system of claim 9 wherein the at least one double-spooled cable reel further comprises two or more double-spooled cable reels are used in the mechanism. 13. A system, comprising: (a) first and second platforms comprising at least one set of wheels, wherein the first and second platform each have a right edge and a left edge respectively; and(b) a safety wall positionable between and engaged with the first and second platforms to define an area protected from a vehicular incursion, wherein the safety wall is slidingly engaged with the first and second platforms and the safety wall is translated linearly back-and-forth between the left edges and the right edges of the first and second platforms depending on the orientation of the safety trailer relative to oncoming traffic by a linear translation mechanism;wherein the linear translation mechanism includes first and second channel members mounted on the first and second platforms and a roller assembly mounted on the safety wall, wherein the roller assembly rolls from edge-to-edge of the first and second platforms in the channel of the channel member; andwherein one or more dowels are inserted into aligned pairs of holes, one hole being in the safety wall and the other being in the adjacent platform, to hold the safety wall in position in the event of a vehicular impact. 14. The system of claim 13 wherein the safety wall is moved side-to-side by first and second motors, and wherein each of the motors engages a respective gear that, in turn, engages a toothed channel in the channel member positioned in the adjacent platform. 15. The system of claim 13 wherein a weight of the safety wall is at least partially offset by a ballast that is movable, along a fixed path, from one side of the first and/or second platform to the other side. 16. The system of claim 13 wherein the safety wall further comprises wall segments having a height of at least about 4 feet from bottom edge to top edge. 17. A system, comprising: (a) first and second platforms comprising at least one set of wheels; and(b) a safety wall positionable between and engaged with the first and second platforms to define an area protected from a vehicular incursion, wherein the safety wall comprises at least one wall segment and the at least one wall segment has a traffic-facing side and a reverse side andwherein the first and second platforms include a plurality of channels, andwherein the at least one wall segment includes tongues on the reverse side of the at least one wall segment andwherein when the safety wall is in an un-deployed mode, the plurality of channels on the first and second platforms engage the tongues on the at least one wall segment, preventing removal of the safety wall from a bed defined by the first and second platforms andwherein when the safety wall is deployed, the tongues are disengaged from the corresponding channels, the at least one wall segment is positioned between the first and second platforms above the road surface, and the at least one wall segment is engaged with the first and second platforms by placing dowels in aligned holes at the interface of the safety wall and adjacent platform. 18. The system of claim 17 wherein the at least one wall segment is deployed with the traffic-facing side facing outwardly and the tongues facing inwardly, relative to the work area. 19. The system of claim 17 wherein independently operable brakes on the second platform are activated to hold the second platform stationary while the first platform is moved to disengage the tongues from the corresponding channels. 20. The system of claim 17 wherein attachment points for attaching the at least one wall segment to the first and second platforms are on the upper edge, and not on the sides, of the at least one wall segment. 21. A system, comprising: (a) first and second platforms comprising at least one set of wheels; and(b) a safety wall positionable between and engaged with the first and second platforms to define an area protected from a vehicular incursion, wherein the safety wall comprises two or more wall segments, and wherein said two or more wall segments are interconnected by a matching tongue and groove mechanism, andwherein said mechanism permits the two or more wall segment to move linearly relative to one another, andwherein each of the two or more wall segments are further provided with plurality of holes extending through each wall segment, andwherein when the safety wall is extended to the desired degree, the holes in each of the wall segments are aligned, and dowels are placed in the aligned holes. 22.
